We knew going in that we would not learn anything that would change our priors about this year or the big picture. If anything else it was an opportunity to get a glimpse at some younger guys to gauge where their progress is, but even that's tough to tell!
Vandagriff had a miserable first quarter. He had a long touchdown to Hardley Gilmore that should have been picked as it was woefully underthrown and then on the next drive he threw it far short again.
He had brighter moments as the game went on but Boley was very intriguing. For a big quarterback he doesn't have a long wind-up and his release is good. He surveyed the field, went through his reads, and was a confident decision maker.
Jamarion Wilcox clearly needs to be the guy in the backfield and he could have a great career the rest of the way. The offense shot itself in the foot a lot but found its way more with the long 91 yard drive at the end of the first half.
Jordan Lovett had two picks and you saw how overmatched the Murray State offense was. This is one of the worst teams at the FCS level so you needed to see domination and I think it got a little more impressive in the middle part of the game. But still doesn't change the big picture.
The protection just is nowhere near good enough. Too many sacks, too many busted things against a very bad defense.
In the big picture, I was surprised that many fans showed up and it took them long enough to get going that you were even reminded of the struggles during a blowout.
