In theory, Perry could still return

It is also likely he hasn't made up his mind, so he has to enter the portal to keep the options open... He is still considering returning or transfering

It should be noted that he hasn't deleted UK mentioning from any of his social media account bios

But I doubt he will return...
Pope probably told him he could return if he doesn't find a good fit somewhere.

I feel that same way. Put his name in last second to keep his options open but Pope might end sprinkling a little more NIL on him and get him to stick around to develop.
Sure but not expecting it.

TP returning this year or any has zero impact on the team success. Who cares.
I'll not be as harsh, but kind of feel the same way. If he sees a better opportunity to play (or get paid) somewhere else, more power to him. If he stays, great! Either way, if our '25-'26 success depends on Perry being in a Kentucky uniform we have bigger problems to worry about.

Had he worked a little harder last year to GET OPEN instead of hoping someone passed the ball to him on the slim chance that he was open, he might have had better luck. He'll be a sophomore. In the olden days he would have been sitting at the end of the bench his first year.

That, and might have told him that it's understandable if he wants more pt.

"Get playing time and develop your game at another program if that's what's best for you. The door will be open for you if you do decide to come back after developing elsewhere," or something along those lines.

I would love for Perry to be a part of the program in the future. He really showed great leadership for Lyon County in that championship run.

I have to wonder if kids like Perry, Josh Carrier and Dontaie Allen have as high of expectations for themselves as some of our fans do.

And is it a case of them not reaching their potential, unrealistic expectations, or just that it's hard to develop at the high major D1 level because you are inevitably recruited over/limited PT?

If perry was from Texas he would have already been forgotten about by this board and his transfer thread would have been less than 1 page of responses.

I rooted for Perry when he was in blue and white. I had hoped that the struggles he endured being thrust into playing time prematurely due to injuries would pay off down the line for him and UK.

Now that he has entered the portal, I believe we are giving him way too much attention. If you strip away the folk-hero status, Perry is just another high floor, low ceiling player who can help you win games when used strategically. How many of the 4,000 guys in the portal could do the same or more?

Why don't we shift our attentions to the two freshmen who decided to return and have a lot more promise of helping us next year?

I wish him the best, but what is confusing for me, is he could have sat the bench for next few years as backup, been a Kentucky legend, come out of college with a degree, never have to worry about a job again, be set for life, ,, jmo, most of you may disagree
I have always taken this line of thought with kids that were not NBA bound. I'm trying to think of a UK player about Perrys skill level that had a run in the NBA. Maybe Darius Miller with the Pelicans. Being a former Cat is not a bad gig.

not a bad gig at all, most of us could only dream of being in that position

Y’all, this is getting out hand.

I know we love Kentucky kids and some of us think they possess magic powers that can overcome lack of natural gifts, but have we ever hoped any other transfer who averaged 2.7 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.6 apg and shot 31.3 percent from the floor would return years later?

Every Kentucky Mr. Basketball isn’t UK/SEC caliber and while the scoring record is a great accomplishment, it was achieved over 6 years against mostly similarly athletically limited and undersized competition. I know. I’m from Kentucky. I was a PF in high school. I’m 6’1.

I sure would like to see this happen !
Same. TP wasn't ready last year and probably won't be ready next year. And that's okay. But I can see JR and SR Travis Perry carving out a sharp shooter roll where he get 15-20 mins/game on really, really good teams. He's just not there yet.

He was forced into a role he wasn't ready for this past season. Nobody's fault either. Just is what it is. As far as playing time, I totally get it. I'd want my players to want more playing time. The healthy approach to that is to work extremely hard to get there. It's hard to convince teenagers of this, but offseason/preseason/practice during season is when you truly get better. Playing time has next to nothing to do with player development or improvement.

He got abused on defense almost every time down the court. Teams altered their offense the second he came in the game. Oats was salivating like Pavlov’s dogs when he would be in the game and screamed “seal” every possession he was in.

Perry did get thrown into situations this past season that he was not ready for. I felt he put forth effort and did the best he could. It was not his fault and I don't blame him for it at all. I felt the lumps he took early on would pay huge dividends later, and I still believe they will. I totally understand his decision, I just hate we won't get to have a junior and senior Perry, I feel he could have been a really solid contributor by then. Best of luck to him!

Dude is the all-time leading scorer in the history of Kentucky high school basketball. He is a Kentucky legend.

Yeah, but this is the NIL era now. If some other school is willing to pay significantly more than us, I get it. He could be set for life by the end of four years in college.

You are correct, and in theory they could restructure/redo his deal. I don't see this as likely, but I do see him coming back to UK his Junior or Senior season.

I do. I like having talented Kentucky kids play for Kentucky. There are no negatives to the Kentucky program if he returns to play for the Cats!
The negative would be the 1.5 new threads every day about if travis shouldve gotten more PT...someone pointing out how steph curry didnt start his freshman year or was super athletic and look at him.....i like perry, but the absolute insane build of a player that also had our biggest negative of any player on the year in the + -....its not my money but i would argue why are we talking about sprinkling more money at him to stay? Lets hang his high school jersey in rupp as well
