Pope promised 2 superstars from transfer portal, so I am still waiting to see who those are before hit the panic button.

So far we have 10 players on the rosters, which is not bad considering that we are in the final four weekend( last year around this time Cal was still our Coach):

PG : Lowe , Lewis, Chandler , Perry
CG: Johnson
SF: Oweh , Williams, Noah
PF
C Garrison, Moreno

We also know that Pope and staff contacted:

PG : Lee- Princeton, Collins - TCU

CG : Rice - Maryland, Pierre- Jacksonville St, Wilkerson - Sam Houston, Moore - Syracuse, Bashir- Monmouth

SF: Freeman - Lincoln Memorial div ii, Griffen - Kansas

PF: Folgueiras - Robert Morris/ Spain, Mgbako - Indiana, Dioubate - Alabama

I am sure until April 27 more players will enter the portal and also next week we might get more clarity from the hearing on NIL, revenue sharing cap .

So far , I like that we kept Oweh, Garrison and Lowe and Williams both bring more length and athleticism and they have multi year of eligibility.

The three incoming Freshman will be a definite upgrade to the 3 freshman from last year. The last year freshman should play some limited role next year.

It will be interesting to see if Pope and staff goes for 3 more players or 5 more since we will have 15 scholarships available. I hope he goes for 5 more , including the 2 superstars he talked about.

Panic button?? Kentucky is #3 in the country as far as the combined ranking of portal players and HS recruiting this year… what the hell are you talking about? We are doing exactly what was needed

Btw, no one wants to come be the 14th and 15th scholarship player to never play. 12-13 scholarship players is all you need. I guess you can fill the last couple with some 3 star homegrown kids. But no one that would make a difference anytime soon

Pope's superstar might not be the same as your superstar or my superstar. He did say that, I for one tend to think Kam could be one of those superstars. He has the size, motor and ability to = a superstar in Pope's offense. Maybe not Jamal Mashburn type of superstar but still a guy that averages 17ppg, 9 reb, 4 asst, 2 blocks.

I do hope that some of the freshman from last year will be in 13-15 positions. That means we have a very good roster.

If Perry or Noah are expected to play more than mopping minutes , that means we are not better than last year.

OP won’t be happy until we sign Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. LOL!
Nah, I am happy where we are with 10 players vs last year , when Cal was still our coach.

We still need 2 PF, 1 SG to replace Breah and SF for JR and possible one muscle center and one PG if we decide to go 15.

Talking about MJ , at his age, he will be better than any player on our roster or college basketball..

Moreno and Johnson are superstars oweh not far behind

Merriam-Webster's definition of "superstar":
1
: a star (as in sports or the movies) who is considered extremely talented, has great public appeal, and can usually command a high salary

2
: one that is very prominent or is a prime attraction

The definitions of "superstar" seem kind of subjective to me.

I’ve seen your schtick enough to know. You won’t be happy regardless. I hope you enjoy the season though, my friend.
You are right there, I will only be happy when i see number 9 hanging from the rafters. Meanwhile, I can enjoy smart coaching or good portal moves.

For instance the two players we got so far are multi year , long, athletic players. I think they both good additions.

We will need few more pieces to compete , so we can have a chance to be “happy”.

Portal "Superstar" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

That's what we call an oxymoron.

There might be 2 "superstars" in the entire portal. Lendeborg and Dent. That's playing fast and loose with the word "superstar".
Michigan got one of these two. More will enter . hopefully by then Mitch will allow Pope to use money.

That’s our Coach language . I just go by what he says,

You need you some bourbon, bro.

LOL!

Lendeborg and Wolf will be a nightmare in the B18, but at least he'll be in the B18 and not in the SEC at places like Auburn, Alabama, Florida, or Tennessee. If UK couldn't get him, and it sucks we didn't, at least if he doesn't go to the NBA he won't be our problem.

He's not suited up yet nor is it really his intention.
Michigan is his fallback in case he sucks at the combine/ personal workouts.

I highly doubt we have 14 or 15 scholarship players in the roster. Women’s basketball has had 15 scholarships for awhile and not many of those teams have over 12 or 13 scholarship players.

Moreno is not close to being a superstar and for next season probably not even a big contributor.

Should go all in on Ament.
Ament will be extremely good to get at PF where we have a big hole…..but our chances there are small especially if we don’t spend money…Duke / Arkansas/ UL have better chances and money .

Moreno will surprise you next year.

Said he was would be bringing in "a couple of superstars" on his radio show about a month ago.

He definitely said it.

Now Pope's definition of a "superstar" could be much different than this board's. 😁 😁
Yes, He did say it.

Good point. :)) I am still hoping that Pope definition of superstars is not very very very different than ours.

My only complaint about Pope so far is that he needs to watch what he says.

There are too many malcontents out there just waiting to pounce on anything he says they can use against him, like the “superstars” comment.

This thread is evidence of that.

I don’t see that as a complaint necessarily…. He kept us very very very engaged when he uses very many words like that, which is not a bad thing on a weekend of final four where Kentucky is not participating. Cheers!
