I'm starting to get frustrated, too.

It is amazing that a 4-7 seed team line the one we will have next year will be one of the worst Cal team’s.

It does show how good he has really been as a coach.

You still falling for that. He's better than some we've had in the past but his feet have been losing traction for some time. At one time he was great and on an upward trajectory. Now still good but great is waning.

Except you can never back up what you say. You pitch a fit when some disagrees with you. Fact of the matter is that Cal has us at the door nearly every year. It’s taken freakishly bad luck to keep us out of the final four. The declaration that the system is incapable of succeeding is simply unsupportable yet time and time again you are here spewing this nonsense. Then you demean anyone that refutes you. The bullshit starts with you every time.
So, you guys can come at me with insults and comments about how wrong I am, but as soon as I reply in defense, I'm "pitching a fit"?

No, the truth is, you guys want me to just roll over and stand in the company line. You think you're some hall monitor for Cal and anything that isn't pro Calipari is whining and crying. Obviously the real world hasn't kicked your ass enough yet. You appear to be a "yes man". If that's true, you and I will never agree, so unless you want to have this discussion in person, just stop responding to me, because you can't handle the opinions of others when they aren't the same as yours.

We've now gotten to the point that we are b!tching about next March in the previous April.

If the rinse repeat everything wasn't bad enough every year where ppl moan about games in Nov before they forget about it at the end of the year...we've now started giving up before it starts

Name one team that win a natty with a whole new lineup? I will wait.

I rest my case. And why in person? Another threat?

Cal needs to stop this runaway train of winning the SEC championship, winning more games than almost any coach in the last ten years. beating our biggest rival Louisville 90% of the time, and getting the number one recruiting class again this year. Please stop Cal. I am so tired of winning.

Are you tired of winning what matters most? National Championships? Err. Never mind.

You don't have a case.

You know, I have yet to see you actually contribute to this board at all. Every one of your posts is an attack on someone that has an opinion you don't like.

At least I contribute and have my own opinions, you're just the hype man in Calipari's entourage.
Then you haven’t been, or can’t read. Contributions extend far beyond supporting the program bashing conducted by you.

Your contribution is mostly negative comments about Cal and the program. I am sure that surprises you since you are such a positive person.

This thread has deteriorated, as I anticipated it would. I've posted for over 3 years how I feel about Cal in terms of whether he's the best coach to put the Cats in a legit position to win another title. But it's hard to avoid getting into some of the back and forth (I've been guilty here and there of the same). So I try to be as balanced as possible and provide context/perspective and just root for the team. Unfortunately it's hard to avoid extremes on message boards. And it's hard to avoid extremes when it comes to coaches. Idolatry is a scary thing, and it's always frightening when any coach becomes bigger than the program. Or when a coach is viewed as irreplaceable or infallible. No matter the coach and no matter the program and no matter the sport.

You could say I'm a bit of a sunshine pumper. Probably can tell from my posts to likes ratio. I don't think I have once bashed Cal. Even when I'm really upset, say after a loss or missing out on a kid we think we really need. I always bite my tongue and just say Cal has a plan. (which I still believe) And I'm quick to call out JFCats, Kentucky Kiddy, Zaytoven, etc. Still love ya'll, we are all rooting for the same cause at the end of the day. But I'm starting to get where you guys and others are coming from.

Let me say this before I get into it. I love Cal. But I'm a little unsure of the current direction. It is also possible to be upset with the coach and at the same time not want anyone else to be the coach. This is where I am.

I just don't see how UK can get back to a final four so damn young. So damn talented, but when you get to that Elite 8 match-up, you really need dudes that have been there before. The Fab 5 almost did it with primarily freshman. Our cats almost did it in 2014. But it just takes so much for it to happen. How many times did Miller, Jones, and Lamb come through in 2012 when we needed them?

I think Cal himself senses this too. That is why I think he's going hard after players like Haarms, whom he normally wouldn't go after. I'm happy he brought a long Mintz and Toppin for experience alone and I do believe he will go after another big man for next year. Maybe a guy we haven't heard of yet. Just can't afford to miss this time.

John Calipari has done so much for Kentucky. The way he's changed the brand alone will do wonders for recruiting after he is gone. Think of little kids now who are growing up and will see all these superstars in the NBA that went through Lexington before they got there...

We already know how next year will go. They'll struggle early, lose to a couple no names, and be playing well in March. But will it be enough to get to the promised land? Just don't feel as confident as I usually do. Being quarantined has hampered my sunshine pumping abilities I guess.

News alert!! No one gets to the promised land every year. That’s totally unrealistic, and it’s ridiculous for anyone to expect that, even at Kentucky.

I'll have to take your word for it, I've never seen you do anything but chastise other posters.

Does Cal pay you for your service here?

You always know they are beat when they ask if you are on the payroll.

No Jeffy. I support my program. Not a fair weather fan. I don’t quit after a few bumps. Never got a participation trophy. I don’t cry when someone responds to my posts.

Still no contribution from you. This is just another garbage post.

So when we have the #1 class multiple years, and more raw talent than any other team, we should NOT expect a title? Ever?

Get the concept but like you said talent is raw. Cals system isn't perfect but neither is the concept that the most talented team wins the tourney.

Since expansion to 64 teams the preseason #1 has won the title a grand total of 6 times.

  • 17 reached the Final Four (just under 50 percent)
  • Six won the national championship (17.1 percent)
  • Seven lost in the national championship (20 percent)
  • 22 reached at least the Elite Eight (62.9 percent)
  • 27 made it to the Sweet 16 (77.1 percent)
  • One lost in the first round

I would never recommend going into any season expecting a National Title unless you are a heavy heavy favorite...1996/2015 for example...as you can see that line of thinking will almost certainly lead to disappointment.

You have never been great. Not even mediocre.

When you supported Tubby to the last day, you were NOT supporting the program, because the program was in a free fall. You need a better excuse than that. You support the coach, first and last. You always have.

or maybe he just supports the coach who is coaching the PROGRAM? just a thought

It’s okay to think our team, from time to time, probably won’t make the Final Four/win a title. Like did anyone really think the Noel team was going to go to the Final Four? So with that being the case a spade is a spade. Sometimes we’re just NOT a FF favorite. Next year (As it stands now) is one of those years. Sure I’ll never count Cal out but I mean...we just lost too much. Simply stating we don’t have what it takes isn’t really “hating” imo.

This is exactly how all "non sunshine pumpers" have always felt. Welcome aboard, playboy!

Well, I guess I need to change my expectations for UK basketball with top ranked classes every year. What do you think a realistic expectation would be? Winning the SEC? Less than ten losses? Sweet 16? Elite 8? You guys all seem content and happy where the program is, I just want to know what makes you all so contented. And don’t say “being in contention every year”. If you can’t make a FF, you are not in contention.

Do I expect a FF every year? Of course not. One every 4 years should be realistic. And not losing at home to Evansville. That is BCG era

I know that, but to him, he can care less where the program is. Ten loss Tubby was his daddy to the last day, and yet he posted the same then as now. Do not dare to criticize the coach. Well sometimes the coach needs critique. Otherwise you are nothing but a yes man, as sheeple, a follower, accepting of the status quo. I am not like that.

Cal has only lost to a mid major twice in 12 years, pretty pointless to bring that up when we recovered from it and went 26-6...also #1 classes don’t mean anything unless you get experience this isn’t football where they stay 3 years, if the NBA made the rule 3 years cal would have 5-6 titles

Spot on, you just made my arguement for me. EXPERIENCE, which we seldom have. This is the spider web Cal has gotten himself caught in.

You should expect them to play their best. Tell me what coach has done better at UK than Cal. Please. I can name several that have done worse.

There's ABSOLUTELY a portion of our fanbase that is old, never goes to games, doesn't go to party's, etc and the ONLY thing that would make them happy is a Title. They don't care about the school, the coach or the players. They just want that title they think they deserve and if they don't get it they will crap all over everything. It's just fact.

You are not a sometime basher. You are a consistent basher. Own it and you might be happier.

And even if they got that title they would still complain. We should have won by more points, etc.

You certainly have plenty of experience being a basher. Have you ever been to a UK game at Rupp? Do you have season tickets? Probably not. Just a complainer.
