I'm starting to get frustrated, too.

I'm right there with you. I mean losing a guy to BYU who has a loaded frontcourt already including a 6ft10 and 6ft11 guys that followed Pope from his old school and sit out last year to play minutes this year for sure. I mean it's like no big man wants anything to do with UK. It's gotten to the point of very odd.

Of course, some fans will take what you said and run with it like we are the Cleveland Browns. I'm frustrated right now too, but Cal usually finds away. I do admit this is going to be one of his toughest challenges. Thank God Clarke and Boston picked UK.
Not odd at all. You should pay attention to how Cal utilizes big men.

Some of us have have been saying this for 2 years. After the Wisconsin loss Cal lost a lot of his edge. Not sure he will ever make another elite 8 much less a final four or title. The G league will be the final nail.

He literally made an elite 8 last time there was a ncaa tourney. You are going a bit far and need to step back from that ledge my friend.

Here is a list of things the pumpers will all say next year:

games in November dont really matter

Have to play scrub teams at home because we are so young

wait till Camp Cal

wait till February

wait till March

cal will announce a tweak

wash, rinse, repeat
This. Its the same pattern every year. It's good to always be relevant and in the conversation, but something has to break this cycle because in the conversation is all we're going to be with this. 90% of what we are doing is grear. We need to get back to that 95+%. We are always just a piece short.

Do we have a vaccine for the flu? No. We may never have a vaccine for this thing.
There are many terrible diseases, polio, typhoid, and smallpox that medical science has pretty much wiped off the face of the earth. As is well known this is not the flu. It will go the way of those other 3. The question in my mind is when? The year and a half many throw around is optimistic.

You could say I'm a bit of a sunshine pumper. Probably can tell from my posts to likes ratio. I don't think I have once bashed Cal. Even when I'm really upset, say after a loss or missing out on a kid we think we really need. I always bite my tongue and just say Cal has a plan. (which I still believe) And I'm quick to call out JFCats, Kentucky Kiddy, Zaytoven, etc. Still love ya'll, we are all rooting for the same cause at the end of the day. But I'm starting to get where you guys and others are coming from.

Let me say this before I get into it. I love Cal. But I'm a little unsure of the current direction. It is also possible to be upset with the coach and at the same time not want anyone else to be the coach. This is where I am.

I just don't see how UK can get back to a final four so damn young. So damn talented, but when you get to that Elite 8 match-up, you really need dudes that have been there before. The Fab 5 almost did it with primarily freshman. Our cats almost did it in 2014. But it just takes so much for it to happen. How many times did Miller, Jones, and Lamb come through in 2012 when we needed them?

I think Cal himself senses this too. That is why I think he's going hard after players like Haarms, whom he normally wouldn't go after. I'm happy he brought a long Mintz and Toppin for experience alone and I do believe he will go after another big man for next year. Maybe a guy we haven't heard of yet. Just can't afford to miss this time.

John Calipari has done so much for Kentucky. The way he's changed the brand alone will do wonders for recruiting after he is gone. Think of little kids now who are growing up and will see all these superstars in the NBA that went through Lexington before they got there...

We already know how next year will go. They'll struggle early, lose to a couple no names, and be playing well in March. But will it be enough to get to the promised land? Just don't feel as confident as I usually do. Being quarantined has hampered my sunshine pumping abilities I guess.
Your "promised land" and mine, if I get your drift, are winning the championship. The program's "promised land" is getting players to the next level. If this means by the most expeditious means possible, then so be it, in fact, the sooner the better.

Life really is, in many cases, about numbers. At least numbers give us a visible measuring stick to how well things are going. Many would say that, under Cal's 11 seasons, winning a championship 9% of the time is a pretty darn good percentage; with some luck, that could have been at least better by 2 championships and several percentage points. However, I worry that the no-kidding important statistic is how many we get to the professional level and what the dollar amount of their contracts turns out to be. I worry that this overriding philosophy has taken on such a "life" that it skews kids' and parents' thinking, that a pro contract far exceeds goals of school and winning championships.

This latest team's decisions to leave, many with little chance to be drafted in the top 30, is a clear illustration of how kids and parents currently view the road to the professional ranks. Even with a road that is murky at best for all except Maxey, the perception from many fans is that these kids have used up what value UK has for them and are now more than ready to move on. None seem to have noticed the patience exercised by PJ and what being patient did for him. No player on this team was as good as PJ was last year, yet we have a wholesale exodus. Come hell or high water, ready or not, they were leaving.

It's a complex situation that is controversial now and will remain so as long as Cal is here. I too love the fact that he is our coach, and it would be madness to suggest he be replaced or his "players first" philosophy be altered.

How like this year with him screaming feed the post, get the ball to Nick. Or doing the same thing the year before with PJ. Begging the guards to get the ball inside. I'm not sure what you mean?
And yet, what did we see? Hagans driving and turning it over. Tubby always said we would run more, never happened.

Not sure what you watched, but I saw PJ and RT have big years inside last year and Nick did pretty dam good inside the paint this year.

Regardless, with an open starting spot at the 5 with the talent, we have coming in we should be able to get someone to step into the role. I don't care if we were never known to throw it in the post which isn't true at all some big should want to play with Boston and Clarke and for UK. We are getting great players and finally 2 Top 10 guys this year coming, but we can't land a big in the 40s or 50s like Cliff. It doesn't make any sense when you look at the success of our bigs. Even after 2015, we have seen bigs do well here for the few we have gotten. Nick took awhile, but he had only been playing BB for 6 years of his life so it took time, but he got there. PJ wasn't even a classic big, but he played big inside with RT. Something is up. Payne is good with bigs and we have a wide-open spot and no one wants it.

Then why did some guys who could have made overseas money return to Florida,Nova,Virginia,Kansas, etc.

No clue. You know dem guys dey think alike ya know?

You have to ask some of the resident mind readers that. They know what those guys think before they think it. They know what Cal is gonna do 5 years from now.

Real Answer. Our guys are well prepared. They have options.

An isolated incident does not a trend make. So tired of people looking at one individual situation and acting as if that completley invalidates an opinion formed over 11 yrs worth of data. Incredibly lazy way to try to form a rebuttal. Do better next time. Even Ronnie Millsap can see thinga have changed and we arent quite what we were at the beginning of Cal's tenure. If you dont see it, you are actively choosing not to.
Moving the goalposts is a logical fallacy.

Which truly is fantastic. It really is BUT we lost a $hit ton. Literally 97% of our scoring. All 5 starters and only one dude who played even somewhat meaningful minutes is returning. That’s just hard to overcome even for Calipari. If we were somehow brining JJ, IQ and EJ back I’d be on cloud NINE for next year. Hell gimme IQ and EJ and I’d still be on cloud 9.

I understand that, but the imbecilic troll was saying we were going to be "awful" and he wanted the season canceled. Theatre of the absurd

Our brand is one-and-done. The university would be much better off if the brand is more about the university and program than how fast players can get to the NBA.

This is all ANY of us who have been labeled Debbie Downers have been saying. Its not negative....its a realistic and sober view of the reality of where we are. Yes, we win a lot. But the first two months are usually rough andnuninspired while they figure things out. It simply isnt a satiafying product. It isnt. It just isnt.
This had nothing to do with Debbie Downer; this is about realizing early on the danger of attracting players to your program by convincing them that you can get them to the NBA faster than anyone else. We have players leaving the program for the NBA that shouldn't be found anywhere near an NBA court earlier than their senior year. Potentially good future NBA players will never become productive players because of this one (maybe 2)-and-done crap.

Honestly, we may be better off without a center. If our forwards can rebound and play defense, may be a blessing.

Just let Cal do his thing and worry about it in March. How many FFs did Pitino have? Joe Hall? Sutton? Tubby? BCG? Cal? Let him stress over it. All we have to do is watch the product.

What bothers you about his coach talk?
So, you suggesting Cal just throws bull shit out there, coach speak= salesmanship=bullshit? Is that what you think he is doing? Is it for the recruits, the fans, or the university?

That’s true. But I’m not the type of person who freaks out if we happen to have a year where we aren’t favorites. Next year, as it stands now, I do not see us winning the title and that’s fine. $hit happens sometimes...

Sh*t happens about 90% of the time.

It is hard to win a National Title. I would have thought the old timers would have learned this via Texas Western...definitely by Wisconsin, I guess not.

Only in Kentucky are you "worried about the program" with a a HOF coach who has won 80% of his games here. Complete sideshow.

Ummm.....it will suck? I don’t want them to have a less than stellar season. Great question though.

“We eat first”- John Calipari
You have no idea how good we’ll be. What is a stellar season? Historically great? Then yeah, we might not be that. We usually aren’t, that’s what makes it special. We’ll be competitive in conference, easily make the tournament, and have enough talent to potentially do something if things fall right. If that’s a reason to be bummed, then I guess I can’t tell you how to feel.

I'm just glad none of our fans are losers that go to rival fans' boards to act like they are fans of that team. I mean talk about a gutless loser. Do you agree that people such as that are miserable losers?
Dude that was so solid.

Quickley and Richards aren’t the difference between a bad team, and a great one. If the freshman aren’t great, we would still be mediocre. The floor is lower, sure. If you thought this team had the potential to be special with some returnees, it should have been because this freshman class has the potential to be really good. Not because Quickley and Richards could carry us.

I mean I am annoyed as we haven't been this close to having an truly elite team since 2015 and all we need is a Marcus Lee or Humphries level guy to play along side Jackson to be top 3 team . We are a top 10 team as of now . So it is hard to be too annoyed but I can get how it seems that way when a kid has a chance to play at top 15 programs like gonzaga and Tech and the top program at UK and goes to a sub top 75 one in BYU. It is baffling but literally but we have soooo much talent 1-11 right now and the best class since 2013 that this is just being caught up in the moment which is human nature . We will find someone in the next 2 weeks and laugh at this .

My guess is we find another kid like we did with Toppin who would normally have to sit out but due to the rule change plays right away.

I wonder how the Zags and AZ felt after failing to even stay on the list?

The people suggesting this don’t seem to realize that, as far as success on the court, drastically changing the recruiting message would have minimal impact. Who has had a better decade than us? The only positive is we would have some people stick around longer so that, I will admit, it would be easier to have an emotional attachment.
