I'm ready for the Jon Sumerall era

Unless NIL changes and a salary cap is instituted, we are not going to compete for the playoffs. So we have a choice. Stay with a Stoops type, win 6-8 games a year and be competitive in 11 of 12 games. Or go with a more entertaining style, win 6-7 games a year and get destroyed in 4 games a year.
Why would a new coach get destroyed in 4 games a year?

This makes sense to me ...
The vandy coach has the same issues and you don't hear him say "pony up" man he is on the path to be coach of the year no way in Hell would stoops let a qb control the offense like Pavia does man he is gutty like his coach vandy punched us in the mouth early they knewc brown and key were not men and acted like children and they taunted them and true to form got costly unsportsman like penalty stoops needs to be fired for not discipline his players better

I’m ready for the south Florida coach to move to Lexington.

He was clearly the brains of the Tennessee offense as they aren’t that good since he left offensively- with better talent.
Here is what happened a few weeks ago in the Tulane vs South Florida game. Tulane had 330 passing yards compared to 175 passing yards for South Florida. Tulane had 198 rushing yards compared to 26 for South Florida. Sumrall with a freshman QB took Alex Golesh to the woodshed 45-10.

They have a roster littered with 5 star recruits. We have a good defense, but try to play a four corner offense to keep them off the field. Bama and Georgia don't have to help their defense by playing stall ball on the other side and scoring 14 points a game. The overwhelming majority of the top 25 is scoring around 30+ points a game. You can't be inept on that side of the ball and consistently win. Stoops is a top 10 paid coach that rarely ends the year as a ranked team..
Bama gets the best of the best on both sides of the ball same with Geogria and LSU, Texas and in some cases Oklahoma. Whers we have a couple of defensive lineman other teams have 8 with 4 red shirts. When you see the SEC say it just means more that's not UK football

what are you talking about.... 11/12 are you high?

an original SEC team will not be kicked out lmao what you are talking about

Especially considering we are in the top half of “properties” in the SEC. Win, lose or draw, we help SEC ratings in all sports.

Now, Vandy and the Mississippi schools are another matter . . . .

Vandy will always be here for academics lol

Because they would play more aggressive and that would inevitably lead to more lopsided games/scores. Stoops shortens the games. Plays a bend don’t break defense with a ball control offense. We are competitive in most games but don’t win that many more. His goal is to give his team a chance to win in the fourth quarter against teams that have more talent.

He gives his teams a chance to win late in the games. You might not think it’s a great chance but more often than not he gives his teams a chance. It can be boring as hell to watch. Also frustrating as hell to watch. We can choose a more aggressive coach that’s going to get similar to slightly less results in the win/loss column but be more entertaining to watch. But that is going to come with more blowout losses.

If you play a more flashy style you will get better players and weapons. Kentuckys next coach needs to be sumrall or a offensive guy

I agree, it's Stoops' style that holds UK back on offense. My point is that I don't necessarily think that a defensive head coach can't have an explosive offense. Stoops just chooses to play scared and slow. Not sure what Summerall would do, but he has had great results at his two stops as a HC so far.
I have no understanding of why people would not want Sumrall. He has PROVEN he can be a successful head coach. He has PROVEN he to have had very good offensive teams. He has proven that his teams play hard nose defense. He is a letterman at UK. He has assistant coaching experience at UK. He has PROVEN he has great integrity in recruiting. BASICALLY he looks like the next great Head Coach of a Major College football team. Jon has said he loves Kentucky. What more do you want? People are gushing over Mark Pope - and rightly so - Jon Sumral is the exact same thing in football as Mark Pope is in basketball! He should be the first guy UK interviews - not because of his UK ties - but because of his proven ability as a head coach and his character as a human being. Jon could easily be a 30 year coach at UK - if he chose to coach that long!

Go Big Blue!

I would speculate that , that number would rule out any outcome other than Stops retiring or being our coach nextyear.
Maybe../but Uk hasn’t fired a coach to payout in decades….Stoops for 13 years and Cal for about the same time. Got lucky as heck Cal walked…I’d like to think with sec money all over the place…we csn figure a buyout and get to Sumrall.

We could fail to win 6 games …with all the defense losses, Oline loses three starter, Key and Barion likely gone…2025 looks ugly snd Stoops hard to see him regenerating things

Uk has been able to save money over decades….time for Mitch to “pony up” snd let the Olympic sports suffer to get football back on track

keep telling yourself that.

Why do you think the Big 10 and the SEC are talking about relegation.

Money talks. Bullshit walks. Especially when there are billions of dollars each year on the line.

Yeah, because the NFL, mlb, nba, etc, have demoted all the teams that haven't won a championship to the minors lol give me a break.

UK isn't going anywhere in the SEC. If any team was kicked out for sports it would be vandy and that isn't happening either.

A few things

First, Summerall timeline just isn’t going to line up with CMS leaving. His star is rising now and most likely will get a P4 offer this offseason.

Second, Stoops will not be fired. So the only way this gig opens is if he leaves on his own. His market is tight. Iowa makes sense, but I’m not sure Ferentz is done.

I don’t know that they could or would want to pay him top tier money. He’d most likely want to take Marrow who is also expensive, not sure anyone is paying him a million.

If Sumrall can walk at Tulane after only one season, why could he not walk after one season at the P4 school?

Lame Kiffin got out of Knoxville after one year.

It can and has been done.

The math is a little different at Iowa.

From Hawkeyesports.com:

“The position of UI head football coach was endowed in 2021 by Will and Renee Moon. The Bettendorf, Iowa, couple are UI alumni and longtime Hawkeye supporters.”

I do not know the details, but this blunt statement indicates Iowa may have money to toss at assistants. And Marrow is a well respected recruiter in the mid-west.

Ferentz is 69 years old.

The three Stoops brothers are well respected at Iowa, Ferentz having scheduled games with Zona when a Stoops coached there.

While I think he can be solid here, I'm really hoping the next coach is an offensive guru. I'm tired of old school defensive philosophies. Offense wins titles these days.
I'm with you 100% on this. Hire an offensive mined head coach & keep Brad White on as defensive coordinator. Get the best of both worlds. This would be the one way that we would be competitive in the SEC.
