Too bad he didn’t do that in high school

I've heard this is not terribly unusual, which is why so many coaches do not offer HS kickers scholarships until they prove they can do it off the turf. And I also noticed, back when I was still officiating HS football, that some of the better HS kickers would not use the tee, specifically to show college coaches they were ready for the college game.

He camped at UK several years, surely they had him kicked off the turf in that setting.

My nephew didn’t use the tee his senior season to prepare for college.

I find it hard to believe he didn't in practice, so he probably learned he wasn't as good and kept using the tee until his scholarship was secured.

I can confirm, as Coach Boulware replied to me directly on Twitter, that the reason Laros is not starting is that his hangtime is too low and they deem Berry's higher kicks, with more hang time even though they are 6 yards shorter than Laros averaged last year, are less of a risk for a long return.

That he took the scholarship knowing that he couldn’t kick and now looks kinda silly.
