If Reeves stays, we get Kaluma and at least one other role player, could that be enough?

I tried being up beat and positive and get crapped on again. Every dang time man, we think something good is going to happen, it’s get shot down instantly
Key thing was we turned down then went back to after Johnson said nope.Cant really blame Jones for saying screw u if he looks away from us.In the portal you have to know who your going to identify, make contact and work on building a relationship all in a quick turn around.
Our staff farted around waiting and lost out.Now we are in despair and still can't get anybody

I now think, it’s reeves some project big and maybe maybe one player

I was pissed at Reeves and still am but we got to have players,it's that simple.I have to hope something happens and we can get a few more.10 if we are lucky and it still won't be enough.
Best case now is Kaluma reeves and somebody else, I had jones pretty much locked in, that’s what cal gets for sitting in his ass when the kid wanted to come here

Better get Reeves back. That’s about all we can do at this point.

The portal is drying up quickly.

Maybe we add the Cyril kid as a reclass?

Starters

G Wagner
G Reeves
G Edwards
F Bradshaw
F Onyenso

Reserves

G Dillingham- sixth man
G Sheppard
F Thiero
F Cyril

Maybe we can make the tourney, if the star Freshmen come through.

We will be missing Lance never thought i would say that
Lance was never the problem himself, it was how he was used by Cal. He's a 5-10 minute a game guy whose main skill is his incredibly high energy and the fact that he can get under the opponent's skin a little. That type of role player can be invaluable.

7th or 8th best team in the SEC with that

Jones said on KSR David jones has been trying to come here for the last month and Kentucky basically said no, lol you can’t make up how and cal has been this offseason
It’s been so bad that it really seems like Cal is doing this on purpose. How can a HC be this incompetent at a school like UK?

My dad texted that to me and I didn’t believe that he said that, man cal has made every wrong decision this offseason
He's made to many wrong decisions over the past 4 seasons. Its been going downhill and it hasn't happened overnight either. Its just one thing after another but the Sharpe fiasco is really what did it for me.Since then it's just been a sarcastic insult towards fans and drama and complacency towards the program by him.It really is a shit show now.

How can you look at a guy who avgs like 12-13 his whole career and say no when you have 7 players
I mean WTH are we doing? Seriously, what is Cal doing? I just don’t know how he can be so out of touch with the game now. He is like completely the opposite guy of who we hired. He used to be innovative, ultra competitive, swaggy, recruits knocked down the door to come here. Now he’s like an old, fat, out of touch old guy that won’t adapt to the game.

Him turning down dudes who can clearly help and thinking players want to come here because it’s Kentucky is coaching malpractice

Get Reeves back. Spend the money and make the playing time promise, Cal.

Get Kaluma. That’s as close to a home run as you can get now in the portal.

That’s the best we can hope for right now.

Starters

G Wagner
G Reeves
G Edwards
F Kaluma
F Bradshaw

Reserves

G Dillingham- sixth man
G Sheppard
F Thiero
F Onyenso

Maybe add another practice player or two to get us to 10-11 scholarship players.

And hope we don’t have any significant injuries (yeah, LOL!).
I like you as a poster. But when it comes to lineups, you just seem to ignore what both players themselves and Cal are looking to do.

Ugo is back to be the starting 5.
Bradshaw is here to be a stretch 4.

The Kaluma kid probably doesn’t come on account of those realities.

Reeves, meanwhile, will have to compete with Dilly and Shepherd for that starting guard spot. And given his atrocious D, it’s no given that he takes it.

I’d say the locks are:

PG Wagner
SF Edwards
PF Bradshaw
C Ugo

Then you’ve got Shepherd, Dilly, Thiero and possibly Reeves fighting for the other starting spot.

I doubt it, but I might have some hope in that scenario.
Enough for what ? Not enough to compete for a championship. Not enough to overcome the coaching deficiencies of John Calipari. History has proven the vast amount of talent that man needs to win at a high level . We haven’t had that level of talent since WWW was a “friend of the program “.

6’7, 225 lbs.

More of a 3/4, but he’s probably the best player available, regardless of position.

He could play with Bradshaw and both could play some inside and some outside.

Cal needs to run a 5 out offense anyway with the personnel he has, IMHO.
Kaluma ran a nice high low action on occasion at Creighton but I'm not sure we have that offensive set.

Good post.

You may be right about Bradshaw and Onyenso, but I wonder how Onyenso goes from a guy who couldn’t beat out Lance Ware for mop up minutes to a starter?

And Bradshaw might start at the 4, but he is going to spend a lot of time at the 5, unless Cal adds another big man. Bradshaw and Onyenso are the only guys currently on the roster who are taller than 6’7 and Onyenso isn’t playing 40 minutes a game.

So as the roster stands now, unless Cal adds another big man, I would assume Bradshaw and Onyenso will split minutes at the 5.

I mean, even if they start together, what happens when Onyenso gets two fouls with 15 minutes left in the first half? You know it’s going to happen a lot and Bradshaw will have to spend the rest of the half at the 5.

And if he gets two fouls, then it’s Thiero or Edwards at the 5. Ouch!

So, Cal has to find another big man to make it work, but it’s slim pickings in the portal.

You’ve got to have more than one Center. Bradshaw might be forced to play there, whether he wants to or not.

But in your lineup, with no Kaluma, we better hope Reeves is back so he can provide some leadership in that starting five.

Without Reeves, and adding no one of significance, Dillingham likely fills that last starting spot.

That’s four Freshmen and a barely played Sophomore starting.

Hope they live up to the accolades.

String bean starting 5 will get pushed all over the court. Maybe if the refs call every touch foul they could compete. And could shoot lights out from 3.

What about North Dakota State 6'11 Grant Nelson that averaged 18 and 9 last year. I read a couple of articles today that said since Oscar Tshiebwe left that Kentucky could be one of his Top options for next season. Why not 6'11 Nelson, Kaluma 6'7 and averaged 12 and 6 at Creighton, Reeves returns, and then maybe one more from the Portal. That would put Kentucky at 11 players and this could be outstanding team with the Five freshmen.

We really need a good big man but none are left.
This.
Cal doesn’t know how to coach an offense that doesn't feature a lumbering earth hog in the middle that clogs the paint.
I know he has Welch now, but it’s still going to be Cal's offense.
I really hope he doesn't think Ugo is ready, because that's just stupid. He’s a back-up at best.

Cal has over 800 wins. Cal has taken every school he's coached to the FF. The experts here have a total of what, 0 wins?

Lady Liberty doesn't even need her scales to see how this is weighted. Y'all got the whine down pat though. Out looking for the cheese because somebody moved it.

You guys keep missing the point on Onyenso. It was NOT that "he couldn't beat out Ware"! He clearly out played Ware in Nov when Oscar missed time (2x the rebounds, 50% more blocks, same scoring, in a few less minutes). And that was with only like a month of practices under his belt because he joined late, missing the summer. But we all know Cal. Cal has "his guys", players that he is loyal to. And Ware has been one of those. So he trusted a player he had played for 2 years, more than one he had seen for 1 month, for the limited minutes either would get backing up the All American.

Yes Bradshaw will play some 5 (say 10-15mpg), unless we add a surprise 5. I am concerned that he simply isn't strong enough for there, but after Onyenso he's all we got.

I do think we will see a lot of Theiro at the 4, again unless we add someone, which we probably will there.

Would be a dream scenario.Trust me I wish it would work out that way.Give me Nelson,Kaluma and maybe a guard like Tyrin Lawrence or another shooter and I'd be happier than a fly on shit

Kaluma shooting 42% from the field and 31% from three-point range at the 4 is pitiful. Better than nothing, though.

We love players who can't shoot.
