If Reed doesn’t start it will be criminal.

Let me see if I understand most of you are basketball coaches. You have just a few games left in the regular season, right? The team chemistry is fantastic, right? The team is starting to play with a lot of heart and effort, right? March madness is right around the corner, right? And if you were coach, you would upset the chemistry of the team, right? And you think you know more the Coach Cal, right? I am way older than most of you on this board, I played for Bob Burrow. When I first joined his team, I thought I knew a lot about basketball. It took about ten minutes of playing against him, not in prime physical shape before I realized that he knew more about the game than I would ever know! (I did not score a point against him) Take a tip from an old timer ..... enjoy the game, enjoy life, stay positive. Life is too short find the bright side and make someone's day better. The Bible teaches us that your mouth is the rudder of your life. Make a change to your life today, start speaking joy, start speaking happiness. Tell your wife, your kid's, your Mom And Dad how they fill you with joy and Love! Then tell your friends...then your neighbors...then tell the people you don't like. Make a change become more like Christ.
You’re on wrong forum if you want puppies & love - make a change in your life and listen to all opinions them look at stats and do what’s best for team
Start Reed Reeves Edwards Thiero Z

That’s fine.

Start Sheppard, Wagner, Reeves, Edwards, and Ivisic.

Might be better to bring Dillingham off the bench anyway since he likes to pick up silly fouls early in the game.

But there is no reason not to start Sheppard. He plays a lot with Wagner anyway.

That lineup works too. Actually, having Sheppard together with Reeves is the main key to starting games better and not digging a hole for ourselves. The floor spacing with that lineup is good as well.

The other thread was about WHY Askew was rated so highly out of HS and what happened that he never realized that rating. This is about currently who should start on this team. Not sure how that is hard to figure out but yes I think you are a little slow if you are asking.
Right, and the OP asked if he was mis evaluated by scouts. But you thought it was so out of bounds for me to ask if his coach mis evaluated him as well.

I wasn’t asking, starting to think you’re projecting because you’re reading questions I’m not asking.

I get it though, you’re in a rough patch of your life and putting others down makes you feel better. I am sorry for whatever you’re going through and I hope it gets better for you.

From one Christ follower ( and sinner ) to another Christ follower ( and sinner ) go find a Facebook group where everyone sings praise to Saint Calipari . He obviously wrote the book of John .

I say keep it as is. Reed amd dilly off the bemch when the other teams starters are getting winded is like a nut punch to them.

Sheppards play fixes Cals coaching!
I know everyone’s excited believe me I am but we again lost a big lead there at the end. Wagner shouldn’t have played as much and big Z was begging to be taken out. Cal had timeouts to spare and it was a huge moment for us in the game but he never called a damn timeout.
He needs to be held accountable.
Just make the right easy decision and start Reed.

Yes ... he and Dilly are like the Marines coming in later to really do the damage.
Reed is third on the team in total minutes played, behind veterans Mitchell and Reeves.
He is first among the Freshmen, obviously.
I'd rather have his minutes and legs fresher later, rather than early on.

I don't have the data, but the games DJ missed that Reed started, I would be curious to see the score of those games after the first 3 or 4 min (as that is normally when Reed/Dilly enter)...

No clue what you are on about man, I love my life but you must not yours if you think basketball discussions are the reason I disagree with you. Very strange response.

But to reply obviously Askew was misevaluated by everyone evaluating him (Cal, all the different services which is thousands of people, other coaches recruiting him) The point of the thread was to figure out where it went wrong, why he was rated highly. Did he peak early? Work ethic? Competition? That is what OP was trying to figure out.

It gets scary when national writers and analysts start pointing these things out. This is when Cal really digs in to prove them wrong, or just to be stubborn. I think it’s pretty obvious from the post game presser he’s going to keep starting DJ. I think he really wants to get him going. But sometimes numbers don’t lie. I wouldn’t be upset to see Reed start with DJ, Reeves, Edwards, and a big (preferably Z for me, but whatever).

Reed played 35 mins last game.

The only player that played more mins was Reeves at 37.

The game before that he played 32 mins. No one played more mins that game.

So what are we even talking about here.

if Reed started he'd play..............about 35 mins lol.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course. Firstly, Askew was rated as high as #10 in the 2021 class during his junior year in high school, not his final class, 2020. Once he joined 2020, he dropped to #25 in that class. Then, he finished at #32. That's a big drop and usually happens when there is more evaluation.

He would have been fine in terms of how we look at him if he came in as a backup PG, ala Fletcher and Ware that year. Perhaps he would transfer and we wouldn't really think of him at all. The spotlight and 30 MPG, or whatever, is the crux of the issue with him. It's one thing to mis-evaluate, it's another to ride that player the whole year.

Whatever, dork

Is there a bigger DJ fan on this board than you? Why is it difficult for you to understand that both Dilly and Reed are far superior to DJ Wagner?
I would rather start Dillingham, IF he can stay out of foul trouble. The way he picks up silly fouls early worries me starting him.

And my point was not to say Wagner should start, it was a response to someone saying Cal promised Wagner and Edwards starting spots. If that is the case (not saying it is), then Cal at least needs to get Sheppard in there with Wagner to start the game.

And I am a bigger fan of Sheppard than I will ever be of Wagner, but you believe what you want.

Bottom line is Wagner has to play some. We need him. He shouldn’t play as much as Sheppard or Dillingham or Reeves, but we do need him in the guard rotation.

Good grief this board is insane.

You show people analytics. They don’t care. You talk about the eye test. They don’t care. You show them what those who aren’t “Bennies”, but rather basketball experts have to say. They don’t care.

And chances are most people that still want to run DJ out there also stick up for Cal.
Once again, Wagner has to play some.

40 minutes of Sheppard, Dillingham, and Reeves together is not realistic. Somebody else has to play in the guard rotation. Wagner is the only other true guard.

Why does it matter who starts? It matters because it's hard for a team to have to fight from behind nearly every game because their stubborn coach made promises to certain players to get them to play at Kentucky. If you start your best players, you get off to a better start, don't have to fight from behind and can build momentum that lasts the whole game.

Reed threw a bad pass late. Why would Cal start him?😁
I'm 100% certain that fans care more about Reed starting than Reed does lol
You really don't know whether Reed cares or not. No one would ever really know if he cares or not, because Reed is too nice of a young man to say. And that fact is what Cal should be grateful for. He doesn't have to worry about hurting Reed's feelings like he might with others.

That is what many on here forget.
And they think those 3 should play all their minutes together. So the other 5 minutes I guess it would be Wagner at the 1 and Edwards at the 2. Yikes!
Not to mention Rob would foul out of half the games if he tried to play 35 minutes.

Too late in the year. Just leave the line up. As long as Reed is getting 34 or so minutes a game and is out there at the end of games we are OK.
I said the exact same thing as OP in another thread but someone pointed out just leave it be, do not disrupt the flow. After thinking about it I agree. But if a team gets up 5-0 or so in the first minute, get him in the game. lol

If you are a follower of Christ, then why do you hate,

Don't count out a good cult leader. Ask Jim Jones and Mason followers.
