I was shocked at some family members reactions

Saw some family that I don't see very often, and they are UK fans. However, when I said how great it was to enjoy watching games again, they were less than enthused. They weren't on the Cal needed to go bandwagon, and are not thrilled that we hired Pope. I just can't even. I have lost the ability to even.

If they wanted Cal over what is going on right now… they are not real UK fans.

How can anyone not be thrilled that we hired Pope? The guy is the anti-Cal in every conceivable way.

Every family has black sheep .

I am not sure the wins and losses will be tremendously different this year, but I would much rather have a coach who prepares his team for winning vs a coach who prepares his players to get to the next level. Add in the fact that he just got to be so Pompous, it was ridiculous.

I was a little disappointed when I heard it was Pope. But after watching film on BYU and seeing how little talent he had at BYU and still had a very formidable team, I was on board 100%. Provided, he can recruit in the same zip code as Cal, which he is obviously showing he can, Pope will have more success when it really matters. We just need to keep some of the talent he recruits for 2 - 3 years, instead of pushing it away.

Sorry..............

I've always been enthused to watch UK play, no matter how good they were or even when on probation. If you aren't enthused about watching the team you say is your team - win, lose or draw - I'd say that's a you problem. I may not have liked results or how things turned out but every game day has been and always will be a special day in my opinion. And before someone yells Cal lover or any other cutesy little term, I support the team. The coach is part of the team until he isn't. I supported Rupp, Hall, Sutton, Pitino, Tubby, BCG and Calipari. I support Pope and will until he is no longer the Head Coach. Then if I'm still around I'll support whoever is next. That doesn't mean I'll like everything they do or agree or be okay with subpar results but I'll still be enthused and it will be great having the opportunity to watch every game. Win, lose or draw.

Some people are just negative all the time. Figure them out and avoid them.

Curious....how old are these so called fans?

There are also people in this world that just love misery. They aren’t really mad at CMP being the New Refreshing, Rejuvenating and Wonderful new head coach, they’re mad cause you’re happy about it!!

Go Cats!

I was a strong Cal supporter. (Still am because he built our program and hung a banner).
But I totally agree he lost control the last few years. He had to go.

COACH POPE...He has to perform going forward (Recruiting)
* But he is EXACTLY what we all wanted:
* Young...Energy...In touch w/ Kids of 2020's
* UK grad...Class act...PR man...One of a Kind
* New ideas...Leader of Leaders
* Crazy FUN approach to Offense + Tempo

I was basically shocked since about 2017 that so many UK fans still supported Cal, believed in what he was doing and were adamant that we'd never get anyone to replace him that would keep us at that level.

And I'm talking about a lot of people on this board as well as in real life until at least 2023 or so.

"....he built our program....." Huh?

Waste of my time, but you say "Huh?"

Rupp - No Title last 15 years
Hall - No Title last 7 years
Sutton - No Title in 4 years - Probation
Pitino - 1 Title in 8 years (Took Louisville job and flipped off UK fans)
Smith - No Title last 9 years
BCG - No Title in 2 years (disaster)

Coach Cal - 1 Title - No Title last 12 years, and had to go.

...His first season, Cal flipped things from 10 loss Tubby and BCG insanity
...Every year but one, we were in the hunt
...Covid and Free Agent transfer and NIL complicated things
...Left us with NBA stars, best facilities, still Blue Blood elite

Cal lost members of my family, then they all passed into the great beyond, leaving me alone to support Kentucky. I'm good with it. You are True Blue, my friend. Nobody can take that away from you !

Cow was a lousy coach who could recruit. That was it. His brand of ball is boring

I’m with you, I still like Cal and I appreciate what he did for UK while he was our coach. He just got lazy and it was time for him to leave, just like it was time for Tubby to leave.
Coach Pope brings the excitement that we had when Cal was first coach and I’m loving it.

I thought it was time for Cal to move on but, I supported him completely while he was here. Bad March losses piled up even when most seasons were very exciting.
Many here thought the sky was falling when Pope was hired. You can go back and read this board after the Pope announcement. Several of you guys, that post regularly, were a big and emotional part of the opposition to Pope. Then, Barnhart pulled out all the stops in the Pope intro program. Barnhart had to sell the hire and he definitely did so. Costly, but effective. Now, as it should, things have settled down and BBN is pulling for the team. There will always be those that are fond of Cal, like me, that will be peripheral Arkansas supporters when they don't play UK. Out of all of this I still look at Barnhart as the one that needs to be on the hotseat. Just like it was for Cal, it is time for Barnhart to leave the building.

No offense to your family but they couldn’t have been following the program closely for the last several years.

I think sometimes we forget just how good of a salesman that dude really is.

Pretty much my sentiments... I kinda had a feeling it might be Pope. But, was initially disappointed
Now... I've switched from Methodist to Catholic/Mormon
