I Don't Usually Get Scoop....BUT

Yeah 100%, we need another capable body there.

Best case would be to land Brown this year, and hold off Cyril until 2024, but I would be ecstatic for either one at this point.
Man, if you are right, I am kind of glad Kaluma wasn’t interested. Much rather have a 6’11 Center to play beside Bradshaw than a 6’7 Forward. In other words, Brown is a better fit.

I would definitely agree with this.

Even with Kaluma, we would have needed to add another true 5 man probably, so this takes care of both aspects (experienced veteran + true 5 man).

Wtf?

Who got mad about it?

You think Ugo wants to come off the bench? You think he and his people haven’t been excited about Oscar moving on and opening the door for him to showcase his talents?

You bring in this dude - which, given the off-season we’ve had is highly unlikely to happen anyway - and Ugo isn’t going to be happy and there will be lockeroom issues.
Ugo wants minutes but the writing has been on the wall for him that cal wants another big. He knows he’s not ready to be a starter for a winning team. Someone with more experience. No matter who we land ugo will get his 20 mpg he’s not preventing us from getting another big unless they are afraid to compete with ugo.

The only scoops I ever had were when I was at college in Lex. None of them were mind blowing or hot takes and they were almost exclusively related to if a player was leaving or not and the general personalities of a lot of the guys.

Hopefully this guy goes into the portal and we add him. I’d also take that reclass and to start developing him. Him and Ugo can battle for the back up 5 spot. If that happens, Reeves returns, and we add another reliable college shooter we would have the pieces. But we had the pieces last season (imo) and Cal didn’t know how to run the team since they weren’t all lottery and first round picks so I’m skeptical how successful that roster would be under Cal.

Honestly, I think adding Brown and Cyril would be a great idea.

Brown would start and Cyril and Onyenso would fight it out for backup minutes.

And there’s a good chance that Cyril would take all the backup minutes from Onyenso. Cyril is a beast.

I agree. Cyril already at 7’0 240lbs is college ready physically and I love his attitude about getting blocks and rebounds and deterring to other scorers. Seems his head is definitely in the right place.

I thought the same about Ugo though and then he tried to transfer. I know his handlers pushed that transfer but he still had to agree to their advice (which was bad advice) and sign the transfer papers.

@Tampa_cat54 , the ones that don’t normally get scoop are usually legit, so thanks for sharing. I’ve had scoop twice in my life around UK sports and they were both right way before it actually happened.
Same. I’ve had scoop twice this year and that’s the first time ever…both were right and from the same person. Once regarding Brandon Miller and the video that eventually leaked and once w Chris Livingston saying he was gone to NBA front offices and not coming back to UK regardless even tho the day before the scoop is when he put out the “idk what I’m gonna do, it’s my decision not my camps, and coming back is definitely in the table etc etc” post

No player wants to come off the bench. It's not like Ugo was a top 3 prospect. He def doesn't have a gaurenteed spot in lineup

I was told by someone very in-the-know about one more name of someone that may be shortly entering the portal as a grad transfer option that Kentucky is already looking at.

Jordan Brown from Louisiana.

Started his career at Arizona.

6'11 Center

Averaged 19 PPG
9RPG
57% FG

Had 16 points and 7 boards against Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament.

Has 1 more COVID year if he wants to use it, could grad transfer since he's played 4 years.

A name to watch.

I don't usually have scoop (because I never ask this person for scoop) and have never tried to before, so this isn't an attention thing. But he offered this up.

Take it for what it's worth.
Please lawd help us get this guy

And that's where the culture needs to change, NOW. These kids from the time they were little have had to compete for playing time. It makes team better. This ME ME ME culture needs to be gone. If Ugonna doesn't want to compete let him go elsewhere, and the consequences will fall on Calipari for letting it happen in the first place.

That’s possible. Or he might accept his role coming off the bench.

We don’t know him personally, so we are speculating.

Either way, we need another 5 man. Onyenso can’t play 40 minutes.

So if Brown wants to come here, we have to take him.

I would take my chances.

I would rather have Onyenso pouting in the locker room over him being our only true 5 man on the roster.
Same here. It's supposed to be about the team winning.

It would be a tough decision between Cyril and Brown. Right off, one would think Brown gives you that experience that is so badly absent. But looking at Cyril he would give the team that strength and toughness that will be needed. Brown seems to want to play more outside and likes the 3 point shot. Whereas, Cyril is a more traditional under the basket guy. Knowing Cal's preference for traditional centers,if he could choose I believe he would go with Cyril. JMO

Who really cares??? The prisoners running the asylum is why UK is a laughing stock & this coach is a joke.
Ugo is not that talented, he is slow off the ground to block shots. But I would bet that is why he came back is because ccc promised him the starting position.
Not that Brown is any better. I think he was a 5* out of high school & hasn't improved too much. Personally, I would take Cyril instead of Brown based on ability only. I don't think Brown is much of a shot blocker either.

Take both, no excuse not to. Its not like we don't have scholarships available

Nightmare scenario. Nelson ends up at Bama and Brown ends up at Arkansas. UK finishes 8-9th in the SEC again for the second time in 4 seasons.
I don’t think Nelson is as big a loss as people build it up. Dude really struggled against better competition. I think Alabama is a better fit, he can play the Clowney position.

Nelson is a smart kid for staying away from Cal because Cal would not utilize him correctly. Nelson is a more skilled version of Skal (in college) and is more of a face up 5. We saw what happened when Cal tried to make Skal a back to the basket 5. He was almost useless.

Hopefully Welch can come in, change the offense and tell Cal to get out of the way and do better about managing egos. That's what he used to excel in. Now he's like the old, out of touch guy.

He's not. I'm not sure which overrated player (for sec play due to extreme athleticism) this board has cried about more, Nelson or that guy from a 12-20 n. Colorado team that tn signed. Both will struggle in sec play against athletic teams.

Ugo doesn’t want to come off the bench.

This dude doesn’t want to back Ugo up.

So this guy will not be at UK.
Ugo is not the coach. It would appear Brown is miles ahead of Ugo. I'd definitely get him if at all possible.

That ship has sailed. This is what happens when you take bullying away

Alabama is going to get someone. They have a giant hole in their frontcourt and only 5-6 good players on their roster.

Arkansas is different with NIL playing a large factor. But they still have Brazile, Mitchell, Graham, and Baye Fall in the frontcourt. They have two many guards to play Brazile at the 3. I am not sure I see how they can pull in a big man without throwing them some huge NIL money as the playing time won't be there for everyone.

Also Musselman left Brown at Nevada after one year and didn't play him a whole lot. Maybe Brown doesn't think highly of the coach.

But again, that was pure SPECULATION by that poster. He has no proof of what he said, and said himself he was just speculating.

By all accounts, UGO is a great kid, who got steered by the wrong people, but loved UK so much he came back anyways. I've heard he has the best attitude and just loves being at Kentucky.

I have not heard one negative thing about Ugo, or about him making demands, etc., but this poster has just decided that Ugo has this attitude issue, admitted it was all just speculation, but STILL people are getting upset about this entirely made-up scenario.

Of course Ugo wants to start. Every player who has ever been on a basketball team wants to start and play as much as possible (if they don't, then I question their competitiveness).

But there is a big difference between wanting to start and play a lot, vs. making demands and trying to hold your team hostage because of those demands. And there is zero reason to believe Ugo is doing that, seems to me like an awesome kid.

Yeah, getting a bit old with our fans making every player out to be a bad person for 1. Wanting to make the most money at their job. 2. Wanting to excel and be one of the best 5 employees at their job.

I guess all the winners on here work for the love of the job and don't care about advancing or excelling.

If Somto Cyril is ready to Commit Cal has to take him now.He has already been burned waiting around on guys who may or may not come.
Have no idea if this is true I’m not listening but saw somebody say on Twitter than the 6’10 student manager Kentucky has is outplaying ugo in practice right now
