How much will playing in a dome impact the game?

Hadn’t seen this discussed, but the Indy region games will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium and not Gainbridge. Given the contrasting styles of UK and Tenn, how much of a factor do you think this will be? Hate that it’s in a dome for multiple reasons.

Hurts Tennessee more than us, I'm thinking. They aren't the best shooting team. We dip to 40% they may dip same % down from their average. This will hurt Houston as well.

See I was thinking just the opposite.

Our numbers on offense are tied to shooting. Not turning it over but mostly shooting. In the games we beat UT we shot 50% from 2 and 3 in each of those games.

Being in a poor shooting stadium I believe HELPS UT and Houston. Shooting becomes less important and things like rebounding (which both of those teams do very well) become more magnified.

Personally I’m not sure how much the half stadium really impacts things. I’ve always thought that just felt like a big basketball arena. It’s the full field/stadium they do for the final 4 and stuff I think has crazy different aesthetics for shooting.

This is the only sweet 16 venue that will be played in football stadium. IMO…it’s not right to have every game of the season played in an arena and then have the biggest game of the season played in a different environment. I hate it!

Which team plays a defense that is designed to intentionally bait bad shooters into open shots? A poor shooting gym could potentially help us, but nothing is certain

Are both teams playing on the same court, or has that, too, gone the way of the moving pick, the travel, the carry, and the 3 (lane violation) and 5 second calls?

Should affect them both equally.

Will UK have an advantage from playing in Rupp all season? Not much at this point. UT playing in Thomson-Boling and playing in both Rupp and a larger venue last weekend should have evened things out.

After the first 5-10 minutes players will adjust

Nerves will play a part before first TV timeout

But it could be 12-9 at 10 minute mark

Who knows maybe I'm wrong. I just don't see how it helps one team, but hurts the other. When the one it's helping has a lower shooting team %. Scratching my head at that. I think it helps brea.

Last game Kentucky played in Lucas Oil was the Regional Finals against Michigan in 2014, I think.

Michigan hit 7 of 18 3s, for 39 percent. Kentucky hit 7 of 11 3s, for 64 percent.

A small sample, of course, but it was a high-pressure game against a 2-seed.
Last game there was the 2015 FF game.

The NCAA said that they were no longer going to play regional finals in domes a few years ago yet here we are. The Indiana boys high school championship games are saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse which is where the Pacers play.

how ever any team gets an early lead is the real important thing. houston and tennessee both rely on getting a 2-3 possession lead and putting on the clamps. this is why our getting out of the gates in each half last weekend was such a good sign.

Bet the under, lol.

Shooting always seems to take a hit when playing in domes. Depth perception is thrown off.

If anything it think this hurts Tennessee more, because again, just not that great of an offensive team at times.

If both teams are missing more shots, there are more missed shots. If one of those teams is considerably better at rebounding the ball they get more scoring opportunities, and often easy ones.

Is this a new thing? I was in Indianapolis in 2014 for the Michigan game, and I don’t recall seeing a curtain… though it was a long time ago

I agree with that. But I'm replying only to op's topic concern. Houston also has a lower team % than Tennessee.

Worries me. Don't think many are in one except Indy. I hope our shooters zone in. If shooting goes arye it favors orange suck.

Wasn't the Duke game in a dome?

It will hurt us more than UT. We rely on the three ball, so poor shooting hurts us more. They don’t shoot it great anyway. If both teams shoot poorly, it’s to their advantage.

That is how I see it, as well. This one will probably boil down to shooting the ball well again.
1) We shot 25-50, 12-24 and 26-52, 12-24 in our two games for 51-102 (50%) overall and 24-48 (50%) from three. Damn good !!
2) They shot 25-72, 11-45 and 23-54, 3-18 for 48-126 (38%) overall and 14-63 (22%) from three. Damn awful !!
