Other visitors have been confirmed for the 21st...I guess it is a recruiting weekend for the Cats....

I mean if you don't understand the reasoning of recruiting a QB every year...come on man.
No our fan base is really this dumb when it comes to football.
Actually UK did sign a quarterback in the 2015 class before going after Kendall, so who's the dumb one now?
Who might that signee be? I'm aware of only a walk-on. Thanks.
Yep, "preferred" walkon Mattingly. Preferred walkons are signed but with no scholarship until their junior year.
You do know that is not, at all, in any way, what a preferred walk on is, right?

I know the rest of you reading this thread probably aren't so uninformed, but for those who might be in the same position of having no effing clue what a preferred walk on is, it's a walk-on who has been given an opportunity to go through camp with the team. The NCAA has a set limit of scholarships at 85 and a set number of players allowed on the team before the season/semester starts at 105, allowing 20 "preferred" walk ons to participate in summer and fall camps and conditioning. Once the season starts your roster can balloon to how ever many players you want to carry adding walkons from anyone on campus, the preferred are the ones allowed to participate in drills and football activities before the school year starts. That's it. There is nothing to say they will receive a scholarship as a junior, and nothing to say they could not receive one sooner should the numbers be there and coach decide they are deserving.

I still say Barker gets the Job before seasons end if not from the Rip. I say he will look the best by the time season comes around.

Rated a little higher as a recruit, MAYBE better potential, and great if he does, because IF he does it will be because he is better than a prospect with great tools, TWO more years experience on the squad, including a full year of starting in the SEC, probably a better QB coach, and MUCH better talent surrounding him, IMO.

Man, I sure hope all you posters thinking you don't need many QBs are right, just think of how dumb that makes TU's staff look.

They already have what many think is the best returning QB in the SEC, had two four stars commit in 15 and a SIX POINT ZERO in 16 and then went out and took a commit from another four star in 15. According to some of our fans they must be as dumb as a rock.

Not only that, but while the QB in question wasn't afraid of the two four stars already committed before he did, he must have wondered about how much confidence they have in him when they added a third four star QB in the 15 class, and all three will have a years experience over him for as long as they stay. One out of the three four stars has a chance to be really good, Dobbs was a 5.7.
I don't understand their reasoning of signing 5+ qbs over a 2 year period. I guess it goes to the old saying of throw enough on the wall and something is bound to stick. Most schools try to sign 1, if they get 2 one RSs and the other doesn't. UGA didn't sign a scholarship qb in this class but also signed a perferred walk on from California of all places. We have a qb committed for 16 from Washington state, another one from quite a distance. But being one of the few programs running a pro style offense those type qbs seem to be jumping on board pretty quick. This guy isn't a running threat about 6'7" now but can sling it, alot like that tall qb Arkansas had during Petrino's time there. But our starter this fall will be a rs soph or frosh, no idea who wins it with the new OC, whoever can hand the ball off smoothest is my guess.

This is where I got the junior thing from which is referring to the 85 limit you spoke of...

"Preferred walk-ons are in a better place to earn a scholarship but it normally does not happen until a player’s junior year. That’s because giving a walk-on a scholarship after his freshman year still uses one of the 25 initial scholarships for that year. A player has to be on the team for two full years before they can get a scholarship and not have it count like an incoming student."

I think you answered your own question. Same reason Alabama stock piles 4/5 star running backs, it increases the odds that somewhere among them you might hit the home run.

Some posters have asked the question about why the need to sign so many QB's in such a short period of time, and in college and pro ball it is very simple. The QB position is that important and without one the chances for success are brutally low. Look at the NFL and NCAA and the top teams all have top QB's, and the teams that struggle do not. Look at LSU with a QB and without one, A&M, Texas, Florida, Miami... Same with the NFL. Going after two top QB's is the right move to so each year. A couple of twisted knees or hard hits and you are at your 3rd QB is getting his wing ready.

Chubb could always line up in the Wildcat formation prolly wouldn't make that much of a difference. I said that as a joke but not really it's actually pretty true.
