Ive always had a weakness for Uk football. I've followed closely since i was little listening to Sonny Collins run for us and dodging the cow piles in our pasture trying to emulate his running style. I have and am critical of Stoops, and understand that maybe it is time for him to move out. BUT I feel very encouraged by the portal haul, and I watch Cazagi (sp?) play in the semi finals of the FBS semi finals, and was very encouraged by his grit and toughness. he reminded me abit of the kid at Vandy. This short yardage tail back we got and the New Mexico state Tb we got along with Patterson give me great hope. Stoops is Stoops and hes stubborn and not going to change much, but hes proven if he can get guys to play his way he can be productive. I am also very encouraged by some of the new O line guys.

again, I deserve the criticism, but im going to be there on opening day and hoping for the best GBB!!!

You sound a lot like me and in my head! I too grew up watching Sonny as a kid and since Dad worked with the 101 and took us to football games I also leaned a little more to that side as a fan. Spent so many days walking over to Commonwealth with hope in my heart that his may be the year. I'm frustrated too with how things have gone but also surpisingly optimistic about this go round. Just think we're better up front, love some of our young WR, and think Stoops got is pride hurt and will pick it up on his end as well.

I am really down on the team and coaches, but I am always ready for UK football. It is has sucked me in for 45 seasons. I must love the underdog! My dad has passed but I shared so many great memories and heartaches with him. I have memories that will last my lifetime. Example like the time after defeat my 66-year-old dad punched a 20 yr old Florida fan after a defeat. haha. Lots of memories.

I get excited for football season as a whole. UK football is just a portion of that excitement as I love college football. With NIL, the haves and have nots continue to widen.

If OSU buys another title I may start to like it less and less each season though.
The data hows pretty clearly that there is a bit more parity, meaning more historically mid tier teams making a splash and an overall raising of the floor, though the upper echelon has not changed. While I don't love the fluidity of rosters year over year, I do love that teams who have been perennial bottom dwellers have been given an opportunity to compete at a higher level. Vandy, Missouri, Kansas St and IU come to mind and even UK in 2021.

I love all football from Pop Warner to the NFL. If there's a game being played I'll watch it. So in that regard I will be happy when football season starts. As far as this year's UK team they have upgraded the roster significant it seems which is a positive, but will have to see if coaching has been upgrade as well. Right now I'm putting a cap on expectations, I would rather be pleasantly surprised then sharply disappointed again.

I’m always excited for football season to start and count down the days. Waiting through the summer is tough but at least our baseball team is peaking and the Reds are playing well. 247 has us ranked as the 10th best incoming transfer class so maybe someone will step up as a leader and get the locker room straightened out.

I will never forget the innovative- haha Bill Curry's I Bone option offense. I worked one season under Pookie Jones at QB. Pookie loved the offense so much he quit football and played baseball his senior year.
Lol false. He was drafted by the Rockies, and chose to play professionally instead of returning for senior year

Thanks. I knew he played baseball but you have a better memory than me. Thanks again for keeping me in line.

With this schedule, it would be a very good season imo. Undoubtedly many fans would just bellyache if thats the result, but its absolutely true. This schedule is brutal and the talent we're facing is insane.
Go 6-6 and being competitive in most of the losses would be a very good season. The question is, is that gonna cut it going forward? Or are ok with being middle of the road, which is better than we used to be.

I went to a game in Fl. Pookie Jones was qb ,we had the smallest, slowest Team ever. The Gaters looked like Pros against a Highschool team. When they ran the ball Emmit Smith killed us. Pookie was good , but no blocking. I remember some didn't like him. I thought he was GREAT.

Not me. I'm going to try to be hopeful for the season. And going in with poor attitude has never helped. Those Curry years, you could see what was coming, but those losses weren't any easier. Thinking we could beat Tennessee and Florida is better than knowing we wouldn't. I much prefer heartbreak to apathy or hopelessness. I want to look forward to next game.

I wish I was excited. I'm excited for football season obviously...just not optimistic that this UK team will be good.

Imo it depends on how you define middle of the road. We'd be top tier in most any other conference. Its just the insane sec that kills our record.

Its a good question and i guess we'll see. We had many younger fans who know nothing but 7+ win seasons. Then we have others who will be pissed even if we win because we dont throw the ball enough.

Ita not a great situation.

First, I just want to see good football in all 3 phases. Secondly, I want to see us get back to the way we played here under Stoops when we were winning 8-10 games a year. Physical run game and playing really good to great defense. We were at our best when we did those things and mixed in play action to open up the pass game. I think Stoops got away from that the last 2-3 years and it bit him in the ass.

Stoops did get away from that as most fans were pleading for him to do! What I want,, win. don't throw any or bring back Mummy ball I don't care so much. Just score one more than the other guys!

After years of staying strong, leading up to last season I drank the Blue KoolAid and thought we had a great shot of going at least 8-5 or even better.

I’m expecting 4-8 this season with a chance to go 5-7. If we do better than that, like you I will be pleasantly surprised.

Been watching some UFL, and have a high school jamboree to go to at Coconut Creek next month, with Coconut Creek, Hialeah, McArthur, Miami Norland and Miramar.

I get excited (for lack of a better word) simply because it means there will be a football to watch game on Saturdays through the fall in which I will have a rooting interest. Something to pass the time as a trifle of entertainment. Keep expectations in check and try to enjoy whatever success is achieved.

I’ve always been a Mark Stoops supporter, but I don’t think he’ll ever recover this program from that Texas AM fiasco. On top of that our main competetors Louisville, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, and even Vanderbilt, have left us in their dust.

College Football is my favorite sport… College Basketball is right behind Football however and Pope breathed new life into the program. It’s time for Football to do the same thing. Stoops has gotten stale and his luck of the SEC East being down is over. I hope he pulls a rabbit out of a hat and has a great season but I’m skeptical.

I would absolutely love the narrative of a smaller market team enjoying success. Everyone paying out 40-50 mil and a sub 10 million team go out and dominate. Not saying that is how much we paid out but I would guess we are in the bottom 5 of the SEC.

Let the sunshine begin

I always get excited to watch Kentucky football. Right now I'm not excited, I will report back as the season gets closer. I think I will be less excited for this year than I have for past seasons.

What TX A&M "fiasco"? Then-TX A&M's AD Ross Bjork (now OH St's AD) called Stoops and offered the HC job. This same exact thing probably happens 100 times a year in FBS sports. Reports vary on what happened after Bjork called Stoops, because nobody knows. I have seen multiple articles on the subject, and every author basically acknowledges they are guessing what happened because Bjork hasn't said. Shortly thereafter, OH St hired Bjork. In any case, the OH St job >> the TX A&M job.

The anti-Stoops crowd badly wants to believe (and demands that all of us believe) that TX A&M boosters rose up in protest against hiring Stoops. All of that is speculation. Whatever the truth, OH St thought Bjork was pretty sharp. And that has turned out to be true.

What's wrong with taking a call from Bjork? These kinds of calls happen hundreds of times every day in corporate America. It's just business. To call it a "fiasco" is disingenuous at best. I suppose people who have never received such a call wouldn't understand though.
