Pope is one of those guys that just seems at home in any environment.
Good observation. I think he has the potential to win over everyone - obviously our fans, recruits, the mothers of recruits, opposing fans, refs, the media, etc.

Cal alienated himself from everyone except for recruits and their families. Pope's too likeable to ever see that happen.

He was a Rhode's Scholar candidate, right? This doesn't always go hand in hand with being book smart, but what you said sounds like someone who's highly emotionally intelligent. So this all kind of checks out for me.

Seeing as he's pretty damn smart, played here, and fully understands what the job is about I have trouble coming up with a scenario where he's not successful here.

Question?
We are battling Bama for some recruits these days. Now we are playing an uptempo style that helped Nate Oats attract players.

Honestly, if you were a player wouldn’t you rather play for the UK brand, BBN and an upbeat Mark Pope rather than Bama and a sour Nate Oats?
