wrestlemania iii wrestling GIF by WWE

When Borden was on the team Stoops first year I wanted Sting to show up for a big game and stand at the top of the stadium and point his bat at the other team
Sting is my all time G.O.A.T I thought it was so cool when Stephen played here was hoping for him to become a big time contributor if nothing else than the coolness factor, but frankly I only ever remember him playing once and he dropped a pretty long pass after getting wolloped. 😔

In the weight room in Diddle? I worked out there the first semester of my freshman year and then I started going to the House of Fitness, where I met Hillbilly Jim.
He lifted weights in the football weight room under the football field.

Sting played at UK?

What connection did Randy Poffo have to Kentucky? Wasn't he the Macho Man Randy Savage?
Played minor league ball for the Louisville Redbirds when they were a Cardinals affiliate, as I understand it. And married a Frankfort girl (Miss Elizabeth). There may be more to it than that...I think even his wrestling may have started in Kentucky.

She graduated from UK. I don’t believe he ever played for the Louisville team. He was done playing minor league ball before they were established in the early 80’s.

Yeah, Savage, his brother and their dad started ICW that was based in Lexington. Savage got busted for shoplifting at the Kroger that used to be at the corner of New Circle and Bryan Station RD according to Jim Cornette. He had stuffed a steak down his pants and tried to walk out and got busted. Ha,ha! You can go to Youtube and watch video's of those old ICW shows and Jim Cornett telling all kinds of stories. Miss Elizabeth is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.

I saw Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo on several occasions at the old Sin The’ sports center off Richmond rd. A friend of mine was at the wave pool one day and said he saw Savage yelling at some kids for splashing too much 😝😂😂

One day Savage and Elizabeth walked into the weight room where I was working out. He looked in the mirror, flexed, then turned and walked out 😝😝

You may be correct, this only has team names. I am less than certain. Some of that trivia I remember hearing but couldn’t tell you where.

You don't have to lift much when you taking horse PEDs.

Hard to tell at that point. This was before Vince McMahan…BUT I wouldn’t be shocked if there wasn’t a PED system in Lexington at the time.

There was a wrestler Superstar Billy Graham many years ago. A friend told me that Supposedly—he was the first, true steroid/muscleman wrestler out there.

You can kind of tell who was juicing. Some of those big, undefined types I doubt. Guys like Dick Murdock or Jerry Lawler

You may be right about Superstar being the first, they were all just big guys back then, some big raw boned guys and some with big stomachs. Lots less high flying and bumps done back then than today. Really sad part is I remember watching everyone you mentioned on tv.

I met Hillbilly Jim when I was at WKU. I lifted weights at a club down town and he would show up there. He's a nice fellow and huge in person.
House of Fitness! Me too. I actually used to work there as well the summer through the winter of 2002.

Met Hacksaw a few years back at a con. One of the nicest guys and his hands were abnormally massive. We shook hands and I’m still looking for mine

I know a bit about Randy Savage. He wrestled for a local outfit getting his start here in the Lake Cumberland Area. He liked his bud and wanted to have it at all times. He was just a natural athlete who was on the light side, even smaller than his brother Lanny, who didn't have the mic skills Randy had.
He got into the juice for his career and got bigger and bigger. When his dad, Angelo Poffo- in the Guiness book for most sit-ups-, started the ICW they were constantly picking at the Memphis Organization, showing up at the matches and challenging the wrestlers. They had garnered wrestles such as Bob Roop, Ronnie Garvin, etc in their stable. Randy even got into an altercation with Superstar Bill Dundee outside a Memphis match around the trunk of Dundee's car and busted Dundee's orbital socket.
Eventually, a match was made in Lexington, Ky between Jerry Lawler and Savage that was a huge draw and put Savage on the map.

It was actually Bruiser Brody, a former local radio personality with a college degree, that suggested to Hacksaw that he carry a weapon into the ring, since being a "heel" in Texas was a dangerous, especially on the way to the ring with the crowd leaning in on you, spitting and cursing:
" Bruiser Brody, my mentor, came in and said ‘Duggan, if you carry something to the ring, carry something you can use. Forget those feathered boas and sequenced robes. I just happened to look down and said ‘Well, here’s a piece of wood’. I came out waving that piece of wood and it was like parting the Red Sea. The people scattered. I got to the ring without getting punched or kicked. I said, ‘This is great'”.

I've told this story in the Paddock wrestling thread but my friend worked at a Long John Silvers back in his high school days in the late 70's. The restaurant was across the street from an old Armory building and sometimes when the wrestlers would come in to eat before the shows at the armory. He said Macho Man came in and got food once. Randy obviously hadn't made it big in the WWF yet but my friend said he talked in the same voice that he did when he got on the WWF. He said anytime he saw him on TV after that he always remembered him in full kayfabe mode ordering a Fish and More in that voice. 😂😂
