I vaguely remember the tail end of the big red machine days. Dad and several of his friends from work would take a bunch of us unwashed heathens up from Gallatin County and turn us loose in Riverfront Stadium while they enjoyed a few cold ones. We would usually end up berating the opposing pitchers in the bullpen before an usher would get a hold of us and escort us back to our seats.

A pretty fascinating article about the guy who essentially consolidated the entire trading card industry on the manufacturing side and on an even larger scale is taking the Fanatics brand as a whole to new heights.

(Behind a subscription wall that claims to be free; also included with the Apple News premium app if you have that, how I stumbled across it.)

- First MLB game was Cardinals/Brewers (dad is a STL fan). Game was delayed for rain after a few innings. I remember leaving and walking to a nearby TGI Fridays to get takeout. I was like 7 and fell asleep under the bar as we waited. By the time we got our food the game started backup and we went back to the stadium - didn’t even check our tickets this time. We were able to sit a few rows behind the home dugout due to everyone leaving and ate TGIF.

- Termites discovered in the kitchen this morning. Probably 50 of them but I was out in the yard and my wife made it sound like the house had been taken over. Exterminator came out and I’m pretty pumped about the hefty bill coming our way. Luckily no structural damage.

- It amazes me that all these northern/colder climate baseball teams don’t just spend the first 2 weeks on the road. Braves are @ CWS and it’s mid-40s and they’re calling for snow tomorrow.

Fanatics/Rubin are good to me at this point. With that said, they stole the MLB license from Topps(had it for 80 years). MLB didn’t give Topps a chance to bid on it. Then Topps had to sell to Fanatics. Topps was going public a few weeks later. Somebody lost millions and millions.

They did the exact same thing with the NFL/NBA/Panini. Panini has fought them off so far(until 2025/2026). But they crippled Panini by buying autograph rights of Victor W., Levis, Stroud etc.

They crush most of us by forcing us to either be their tap dancing monkey(breaking live) on their platform Fanatics Live. Or suffer low allocations. So you somewhat become an employee of theirs.

It’s kinda fun to try and reinvent yourself. Let’s face it. This is 🇺🇸. There was a ton of $ being made. Anytime that happens the big boys will come and take over.

Got into this to be my own boss. That was all that mattered to me. It’s intoxicating, to me, to call my own shots. Rather be the captain of a dingy than a deckhand on a yacht. That’s just me.

It was a great run. Hopefully, I’ll figure out a new way and use real estate to supplement.

Refs have no clue how to officiate him. Dude moves like an oak and has the coordination of a bookshelf and averages less than 2 fouls per game.

Glad UT was bounced but he was called for one (1) and accounted for sixteen (16). If that was us, those refs would have been murdered.

I think those mofo's are shady AF and something's fishy about it. Why would anybody (NFL/MLB/NBA) want to beholden to them?

Btw... I owe @PTI (pti) an apology. His Reds were doing the Lord's work today.

Decided to get breakfast this morning since I’m recovering and up all night. Storm sirens started going off and thought I had enough time to get there and back before it hit. Nope, was dodging limbs and debris and my Escalade was getting blasted by 60mph winds. Get there and waited 10 minutes because they wouldn’t take my order over the wind and rain blowing in the drive thru window. Sometimes the 2/$5 croissanwich isn’t the most important meal of the day.
Lots of damage being reported here with several more waves of storms expected today.
Stay safe everyone as the later storms are supposed to be worse.

Where is HERE exactly? I'm supposed to get on a plane at noon. LOL

-Dropped Mom off at the airport here and then sent her a pic of the whole state tornado watch and wished her good luck in making it!

Seriously though friends, prayer your way. It looks like it’s going to be a day for you all. 🙏

-Iowa game last night was dope. 10 million people watched which is wild and only 5 million less than the men’s National champ last year.

So many of my friends’ daughters cannot get enough of this which I think is fantastic for the gals.

-Beach day in St Pete Beach with Lexington friends with their kids today, can’t wait.

I was going there since they’re the first and closest to open and I was hongry. My Escalade was better shelter than BK.
It was just 60mph winds not a tornado. I’ve been through 4 direct hits by them and came out unscathed. I’ve also worn all the feathers off my Guardian Angel getting this far in life.
However, there’s nothing that makes you happier about being alive than going through a tornado and coming out of a friends old farmhouse basement root cellar and seeing nothing but sky. Well, maybe sex and a NCAA Championship!! 😎

Staff changes are pointless anyway. The problem is at the top. This nonsense about administrative changes is like putting a bandaid on a decapitation wound.
I agree. But the more you hear, the more it sounds like “nobody even cares or thinks there’s a problem.” Which I think deep down a lot of us knew, but don’t want to admit.

Mitch - possibly to a fault - gives coaches time to prove themselves and/or clean up their messes. He gave Mingione more time than anyone else would, and that seems to have maybe paid off.

Also, I’m pretty sure he never dreamed that he would have to think about firing Cal. I’m assuming the money people have made it clear they’re unhappy.

There's a word for this approach to leadership and management. It's actually not that uncommon. Mitch is what's known as a "p*ssy."

It's just emboldened Cal. Mitch coming out of that meeting like a cuck, with his backslapping, "we're in a marriage" BS with Cal. Just cut off at the knees the fans, the boosters, and himself too, if he really wanted change. The one time where Cal ever showed any appearance of acknowledging Mitch was during the whole "we're a basketball school, not a football school" and Mitch hit back. He's taken his measure of Barnhart and thinks he's a pushover. He ain't changing $hit.

Cal was brought back with general impression that things would change.

No additional oversight from the athletic department.
No staff changes.
A roster that will be at least 50% freshmen.
The most assumed returnee is in the portal.
And he’s still being a little baby bitch about KSR.
Cal isn't gonna change anything. Acting like this is some big surprise is hilarious. We have years of evidence. Here's a warning, he's gonna:

1. Make excuses about being young when we lose games in NNovember and December.
2. Act like a dumbass when asked about whatever injuries we have early season.
3. Start 1 or 2 players that have no business starting.
4. Play 2 bigs.
5. Take shots at the fan base.

You get one shot at the king, you best not miss. Barnhart doesn't even have a gun.

*all metaphorically, of course.
