The short legislative session of our General Assembly is underway. Not sure they'll be able to top this Bill which was filed on the first day:

(1) A person is guilty of unlawful release of balloons when, within a twenty-four (24) hour period, he or she intentionally releases, organizes the release of, or causes to be released ten (10) or more balloons inflated with a gas that is lighter than air except for: (a) Balloons released on behalf of a governmental agency or pursuant to a governmental contract for scientific or meteorological purposes; (b) Hot air balloons that are recovered after launching; or (c) Balloons released indoors. (2) Unlawful release of balloons is a Class A misdemeanor.
Balloon releases are some of the most ignorant memorials/celebrations out there. I hope this law passes and bans them. If you release balloons to represent some sort of significant event, I hope you get an anal cyst.

Balloon trash is very harmful to livestock and wildlife when it inevitably falls and become litter.

I’m not even sure how you make a good hire in college sports anymore. If guys like Jimbo Fisher and Brian Kelly don’t work out, then just hire whoever TF you want and cross your fingers, I guess.

I like making "Small Game James" comments to my Penn State buddies, but are there really 12 coaches better than Franklin? Dude won at Vandy for Christ's sake.

That's why he still has a job. He is organized, can recruit, use money wisely and has them competitive, at the highest level, to the point you don't look for another coach. Because, as PTI said, you don't know who is going to do better who already has a similar job.

ESPN had an article out today re: Congress looking to solve the NIL situation. One piece of it caught my eye:

"Several industry sources said they expect the biggest SEC and Big Ten schools, such as Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan, to demand a bigger proportion of their conferences' television earnings when new broadcast deals are negotiated in the early 2030s -- a move that would drive another wedge between the haves and have-nots."

If this occurs isn't the move for all the other schools to tell Bama, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan to kick rocks and they're out and have fun playing each other 4 times each per year? Texas tried to pull this nonsense with the Longhorn Network.

Back in 2010, James Franklin was the AHC at Maryland under Ralph Friedgen, who was fired. Some people thought they should have hired Franklin, but they instead hired Randy Edsall. And Vandy hired Franklin. People laughed at Vandy for hiring a coach who MD had deemed not fit to take their job after being a longtime assistant. The bottom line is it is really difficult to determine who will or will not be a good coach. I mean, I thought Marcus Freeman was a bad coach just a few months ago. What happened?

Freeman seems like a great dude and a good coach, but I'm still not sure if Notre Dame isn't more lucky than great this year. Schedule is pretty weak and they caught Georgia with their backup QB. Penn State - while highly ranked - didn't have a tough schedule either.

Timing and luck. Luke Fickell was in line to be next ND or OSU head coach. Freeman jumps from him to asst under Brian Kelly. He made his own luck and Fickell is wallowing away at Wisconsin.

What's this about unc having some momentum on Caleb Wilson, @jayroon?
Smokescreen and clickbait it seems like to me. UNC's NIL offer won't even match ours due to everything they're having to bankroll for Belichick.

We're the better system fit for him, he engages with our fans more online and rumors are he's already signed an NIL deal with us.

They're selling him on Hubert being there one more year but why would he want to play for that guy. They could miss the tournament for the 2nd time in 4 years.

Their class is trash so far for next year (two 4 stars) and they've swung and missed on a lot of recruits for 25. Also, Jackson and Davis will be gone so they could be a dumpster fire next year unless they a pull a lot of rabbits out of their hats via the portal.

They might have a better shot at him if they fired Hubert and hired someone like Oats (but with their insistence on staying in the family their dumbasses would probably hire Kenny Smith or something like that). He'll commit before anything like that would happen anyway.

They're saying he could be their Ian Jackson but they are totally different players.

Just doesn't add up and I would think they'd have to significantly beat our NIL offer given all the other advantages we have and they haven't.

There are a few media members thinking they lead so their fans are rolling with it but I don't think there's evidence to it, it's just hunches. Their fans are rolling with it because of how desperate they are but there was Jasper/UNC smoke late too. Travis Branham is one guy saying it but he was wrong on Jasper too.

One other interesting note is that Gilbert Arenas' son who's a top 5 recruit (SG) in the 26 class may reclassify to 25 and we may get him too. That would give us the #1 class next year by adding he with Wilson if that happened. Oweh could be a hindrance to Arenas coming though if he comes back,

That’s way too many freshmen imo. Would much much much rather have Oweh back than a freshman

Agree on preferring Oweh obviously but Arenas would help replace Oweh if he leaves (he's a bucket) or could fit with him here. Some are saying due to Oweh's age (turns 22 in June) he's considering going pro.

Scholarships go up to 15 next year so you may have some wiggle room for 5 freshman (especially if Oweh and/or Garrison leave). Garrison is getting some draft love recently as well (albeit 2nd round). Could fit Arenas on the roster either way assuming he, Jasper or Lewis are ok with coming off the bench.

So right now you've got (best case) Garrison, Oweh, the 3 freshman from this year and the 3 freshman for next year so far. Add Wilson then you still have 6 scholarships to play with. Could get 4-5 out of the portal and take 1-2 more freshman or international players.

Hopefully out of the portal they focus the majority of them on really physical players. I worry about Moreno especially as a freshman in that respect. Would have liked for them to have taken a 3 and D player this year as the 13th scholarship which they didn't fill.

Kerr could theoretically come back (there's a new waiver for suspended players) and there's room for him and I'd love it but I haven't seen any speculation either way on that.

My son just came in my office and said he just made history. Some player he created on College Football won the Heisman as a true freshman. He was pretty pumped about it and as he was walking out he turned around and said, "first white running back to win the Heisman too". 😅

I had to correct him that there were in fact white running backs who have won the Heisman. Paul Hornung for example. Then I did a google search on "last white running back to win the Heisman trophy". Google AI told me it was Derrick Henry complete with the logic of how they came to that conclusion. Might sell my Google stock after that.
