Every once in a while someone will drop a reference in here that you really appreciate only if you have posted 15-20 years.

Shorts:

- I’ll watch damn near any cult documentary. Always amazing to me:

a) The people who get caught up in these things. Many times it’s really damaged people but sometimes it’s people you wouldn’t expect to be complete idiots.

b) How ridiculously unimpressive these cult leaders usually are. I mean, these aren’t Brad Pitts. They’re F’ing losers.

Speaking of, the new Dance Cult docuseries on Netflix is a good one. The main chick who gets got is absolutely 🔥🔥🔥. I mean 9.5 level smoke. Her sister is right there with her. You really feel for the family.

- I don’t know what’s more absurd with women these days - the hair extensions or the ridiculous fake lashes. Had a decently attractive young chick wait on me the other day who appeared to have caterpillars taped to their eyelids.

- Get to cross one off the bucket list in a month- seeing Tracy Lawrence with my boy BBdK. 😱

- Real talk though, as far as sports ages 6-12, I don’t think anything touches baseball.

- Daughter was up at 5am so rewatched the Amy Winehouse doc from years back. Great documentary. Unique talent. Total mess. Love when someone comes around and you’ve never heard or saw anything like them before. She was one of those.

- Speaking of, if you’re ever in Cincinnati, make reservations for Ghost Baby. Bar 4 stories underground where beer was stored before refrigeration came about. Cool atmosphere and ambience and great live music from jazz singers and lounge acts. Maybe my favorite place in town.

- Not mad but going to have to get used to the new recruiting style for UK basketball. Curious how Pope will target high school prospects and also how well his ace staff will do head to head against Duke, Kansas and Arkansas. Great year to start with Johnson, Magwood and Moreno in state.

- Also hasn’t quite hit me how different the SEC and college football overall will be this fall. Will UK get swallowed up by the conference? Will we be in contention for the playoff? Will I enjoy it more, less or the same as before?

- I like Luka because he’s a MFer. He’s not out there dapping dudes up, exchanging jerseys. He wants to kick their ass.

- Back when I could tell you every MLB starting lineup, rotation and top prospects, used to really enjoy the college baseball world series. Looking forward to Saturday. Man, that blue&white looks good on a baseball jersey.

- Not in the same class, but the Kinney kid from Newport is a high-major prospect, also. Local vibes I've heard re: Jasper is that he's still enamored with a few other programs, but that Kentucky has a better shot with him under Pope than it ever did under Cal.

- Sometimes I want a recruit based on his name alone. This Niko Bundalo kid has been racking up high-major offers for a while now, and suddenly Kentucky's in the mix. Really want to cheer for a kid named "Niko", gang.

- Remind me never to go up to Cincy for a weeknight Reds game ever again. Left home at 4:30 for a 7:10 game and still missed the first two innings. Between the traffic in Georgetown(!), and the complete mess down around the stadium, it was near impossible to find a place to park. The garage I've used for years is suddenly pass-only, which threw off my entire plan. Our late arrival meant no Elly bobblehead. Still, always a fun night at GABP, even when the wrong team wins.

- Speaking of which, it never fails to throw me for a loop when a fan at an MLB game wears a jersey, or any other gear, of a team that isn't even playing at that stadium that night. It's a Reds/Guardians game...why in the world are you wearing a Mariners jersey?

- The Kiss Cam resulted in some awkward humor last night. But GABP is really missing out by not doing a "Celebrity Lookalike Cam", which NHL games have perfected. I've gone down a Youtube rabbit hole watching those.

- At a complete loss trying to figure out a Fathers Day gift for my dad, who doesn't drive anymore and lives in assisted living. I'd typically go with a pressure washer, obviously, but that's off the table.

- Getting my dad “good” beer - Garage Beer and Summerfest. I usually buy him a Reds or Kentucky hat.

- Yeah heard the Elly bobblehead made for a shitshow last night. My parents hopped on the shuttle in Newport and took them 40 minutes to cross the river. I mean, its a 10 minute walk.

- We aren’t losing Johnson. Not buying that for a second.

Cults- damaged people, my father-in-law's brother was always trying something new, got involved with the Hale Bop crazies, switched religions, ended up being the grand idiot of his sect, his flock moved their trailers up to his farm in mountains in N California to ride out y2K, when it was a nothing burger, he was left with empty trailers scatter about his property.

Immaculate Grid has taught me how much I've lost touch with modern baseball.

Simple pleasures, get home late enough that everyone is in bed but not too late that you can sit, have a drink and decompress.

The most memorable thing for me about the movie Wildcats was learning that the star, juvenile delinquent QB was played by the same actor who played Bubba in Forrest Gump.

I love Remember the Titans as a stand alone film, but I would not recommend others who love it going down the rabbit hole learning about what was true vs fairy tale. The first shock to me was visiting my now wife while we dated when she lived in Arlington, VA. The movie implies that it was set in the middle of BFE in Virginia or a carbon copy of racially divided small town, southern USA like you'd find in Mississippi or Alabama. In reality, TC Williams is/was located in Arlington/Alexandria border which is the DC metropolitan area.

I went last night. I was in Cincy for work. Went for a jog at 4:30 starting at the Westin; ran over the blue bridge into Kentucky and came back over the white bridge by the back of the baseball stadium. I tell you this because at around 4:50 there were huge lines waiting to get in the stadium to get the bobble head. So you wouldn’t have gotten one had you gotten there at 6 most likely.

Edit: I got there at 7:05 and got a bobble head. I guess it’s who you know not what you know.

- Was also there and got a bobblehead because my MIL brought my nephews down at 4 pm. And because my FIL is an usher so he was going to get an extra anyway. But my SIL got stuck in traffic for almost an hour and the parking garage she had a pass for was full, despite her having a pass??

- Is there a stat out there about players struggling on the night they have a bobblehead? I swear McLain had a bobblehead night when he was injured earlier this season. Shout out to Candelario, I have no idea how his second HR stayed fair.

- Llama, I share your confusion about random other team jerseys/gear showing up at games. I saw Cubs, Celtics, Team USA, and Yankees. Where tf do y'all think you are?

- My biggest pet peeve at large events - sports, concerts, etc. - is able bodied adults who have zero understanding of where their bodies are in space. If you're a kid, an old, or have some kind of mobility issue, you're fine. If you're a regular adult and you can't get out of the middle of the concourse at more than turtle speed, DIAF and I will unapologetically run your ass over on my way to buy overpriced food/pray the bathrooms aren't disgusting.

Can be annoying, but I also have an Elly De La Cruz inside the park HR captured on my phone, with GABP absolutely going bonkers and my 7 year old high fiving me in complete awe of his first MLB game experience, so I'm cool with it.

USMNT with a 1-1 draw vs Brazil

Josiah Hayes out for season with a torn achilles. Ouch. Luckily we had some depth on the DL. Walker, Silver, Ox, Rybka should be able to pick up the slack. Not much depth there anymore though.

UK LB room getting lots of national love. Plus Hairston and Waller in the backfield. Hoping Childress and Lovett return to 2022 form. Defense could be lights out even with the loss of Hayes. You know, if they actually decide to play aggressively and don't give cushions beyond the 1st down marker.

I've gone to two Reds games in the last 4 days. EDC is 0-8 with a walk during that time. Ole UKO looking pretty sharp!

At this point, he may be the worst everyday player the Reds have had in long time, but he runs fast. The homer crowd (inc. the usual suspects on this board) will praise his random stat that Sadak screams about...."only one of 3 MLB players ever to have a hit and a SB after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday's in games that have been called because of rain after the 5th inning".

One would think by this point he would be getting better instead of worse, and that isn't entirely on him, but the Reds management incompetence. He needs a lot of help.
