GYERO: Gator Hater Edition

I said to get his ass out of the game. GD, it's so obvious. He came in and has been no better than any one of us would be doing playing the five. What a joke.

Dakari has just been one of those players i can't warm up to. Almost happened last April, but wouldn't let myself fall for it. Now justified.

WCS is going to make so much money. Dude can easily play 18+ years in the league. That is if he doesn't flake out after about 10. Strong possibility. His flake game is strong.

He's a full 3 to 4 year guy. He's shown that he's willing to put in the work to get better and has, but still lacks polish. If he comes back next year, watch out. I see him as our premier post player beside Skal for the defensive side of the ball. The fact that he's even mentioned as a potential 1st rounder shows that the pros see his potential. He can finish, just needs to learn to play with effort all the time.

Defense has dropped off lately. Can't Deny that. That being said, I'll take a road win at the O DOME any day of the week.

Funny how the whiny bitch has the wife/kids, career and friends. Learn in game red ass. Go get pumped, Gyerater.

He can't finish. He has the game of a busted 6-4 PF with a club foot and bloody vag. Big men in the league would go jungle gym on his ass. Swatting his weak, awkward attempts back in his face with disinterest and contempt. Contempt born from the fact that, though he is 7 foot and big as a house, he plays like he's in a constant state of "My Bad" or "Good Block. Really should have passed it there"

Having said that, there is some truth in your post. Due to his size, he is still such an oddity in CB, that he can compete at a high level, no matter how much his play negates this advantage. And he does do somethings well at times, just not consistently enough to garner kudos from me, unfortunately. No, he just reminds me of a player who just doesn't get it athletically. A 7 footer whose only claim to be on the court is being 7 foot. Could live with him or without him on this team.

Dakari basically singlehandedly kept us in the Sweet 16 game last year when UL was trying to run away with it. That was enough for me to warm up to him. He is 19, he is still learning how to play against different styles of defense. He'll be fine here and at the next level.

Weird game last night. The execution was worse than it had been, but the fight was considerably better.

Kansas got beat, Arizona got beat. There's something to be said about going on the road, taking the opponent's KO punch, not playing your best and still winning.

Karl Towns is starting to figure it out, you guys. He's putting the pieces together. That over the shoulder post feed to Willie for the dunk was a NICE PASS OH WHAT A PASS. And he made some big plays in the first half to keep the ship afloat when Florida was launching bombs. And he's finishing better on his jump hook too, at least as long as he doesn't shoot with the left hand. His lefty hook is an ICBM.

I've said all year that if we win the title, we're going to have at least one game in our run where we win in spite of Willie. He just seems incapable of playing fully engaged for 6 games in a row. But holy crap, last night. Best thing about what Willie did last night was he tried to tear the rim off every time he got near it. None of that fancy up & under crap.

So can we just not defend the bounce OR protect the rim anymore? That's no good, fellas.

21-22 from the line in that environment is a testament to the team's toughness, which had justifiably been questioned the last 6-7 games.

The guys who stunk tonight didn't just stink. They stunk worse than they have all year long. Be better, 5. Be better, 44.

And then there's Florida, which is what I really want to talk about. What's up with those guys? First of all, they played great. I've seen Florida probably a dozen times this year and that was far and away the best performance I've seen from them. They wasted a good game from Kasey Hill. They still run those ball screens as well as any team in the country. So what's the deal?

I've thought all year that Florida's biggest problem was talent, and it's still a problem. But there's something else going on there. If you haven't seen Donovan's postgame quotes, you ought to check them out. It's the most dismayed series of quotes ever from Donovan, basically taking his team to task for their whole season, and not really accepting any responsibility himself, which is disappointing because it's on him just as much as it is the players. I'd like to think Kasey Hill and Chris Walker would have developed better at Kentucky. Or it could just be a Murphy's Law season for Florida where everything goes wrong after last year when everything went right.

Florida had chances to salt this thing away a few times and failed every time. It was like the inverse of their game in Rupp from last year. Kasey Hill blew 2 free throws. Jon Horford was incredibly anti-clutch. I'm not used to Florida missing those kinds of big time free throws. And that travel at the end absolutely was a travel, even if it was on a call that the home team NEVER gets at that juncture of a game. If the foul had been called, they would have missed the free throws, so it's a moot point.

And they should actually have more losses than they do. Finney-Smith had to save their lives 2 weeks ago at Bama, and then they were given a win over Arkansas on a silver platter last week. They should be 10-13, and given the way they played and how well they executed their offense last night, they have to be the most underachieving team in the country, right? Am I being too harsh on our boy Donovan?

It's going to be guard play that beats Kentucky. LSU is 4-0 against the KenPom top 50, but has also lost to Auburn, Mississippi State and Missouri because they're a stupid SEC team. As fired up as they'll be and as tough a matchup as their bigs are, I hate their guards. We'll win. Just have to guard the bounce and protect the rim a little better.

I think missing Lyles hurts our defense more than anything. He has been sneaky good at both perimeter and interior defense.

Shorts:

- Considering the crowd, the time slot and the way Florida played, nice win.

- Towns is really coming into his own. Helluva ballgame.

- Booker's cramps hurt us. Wasn't the same dude in the 2nd half.

- Didn't think Ulis played that well.

- Kansas fans believe they're a one-seed out West. lol wut

- I don't know, Zona just doesn't impress me much when I watch them.

- Anderson being out may push UVa to a 2. Just hope it's not in our bracket.

There are several teams I'd rather not play before UVA. They are woeful offensively. They should have pulled away from both Duke and UL but could not because their offense sucks. I don't care what their efficiency numbers are.

And Anderson is their best offensive player. Totally changes the ACC race. Not sure they can win it now without him. 4-6 weeks means he should be back for the NCAA tourney, but how many losses do they take in that time?

This Dean Smith death sure seems . . . convenient. Maybe that's callous, but we are talking about the most corrupt and inbred organization in the history of college sports, so nothing would surprise me. Wish he had lived to see a bunch of his wins vacated (not that the NCAA would dare be consistent enough to actually do what's right here).

Why was Booker fed oranges for his cramps. We need a new cramp doctor. Our cramp remedies have failed us since John Wall.

-Towns is really starting to show why he's a top 3 pick. Such a dynamic skillset. He's starting to get more comfortable down on the block and with his body.

- We really miss Lyles. He's such a calming influence on offense having a 6'10" small forward who can put it on the bounce and hit the midrange. Donovan pointed this out.

- Took their best punch and the place is going bananas and of course they're nailing 3's. Nothing phases this bunch. You can sense it.

- Booker is getting better and better on the bounce. That one turn around jumper that somehow fell in with the shot clock
expiring was lotto.

- Peremiter D wasn't great. Some of it had to do with poor communication on the switches. Towns talked about this postgame with the crowd.

- Willie's dunk.. Why he do him like that? SHEW.

- Let's get better and see what happens.

- 23-0. K.

I have not held out hope that much would happen with UNC, but this can only help. IMO, not nearly enough has been written yet about the lawsuit naming UNC and the NCAA as defendants. That is HUGE - unless the lawsuit is dismissed out of the gate, the NCAA will have to assert a crossclaim against UNC, and boom, it all begins.

The coupling of these two events gives me the first real hope I've had that something will happen. Although it's probably more likely to result in the reform and virtual abolition of the NCAA than it is the destruction of UNC. But still.

Dr Boat: Was listening to NPR, have your heard/read about Jennifer Percy (Demon Camp)? Just wanted to know your thoughts/views if you had, especially from a veteran. Interesting interview, now want to read her book.

Bbdk: You did not mention what your wife ordered - or - if hers was good? I love that place, went there for lunch at least once a week, when I was working in that area. They have a really great Crab cake sandwich served on croissant , love the white flowers/atmosphere. AND I like that is actually still open and in business...so many old restaurants, have unfortunately closed in the last 10 years.

Hope all is well with Gyero. I'm gone.

Someone inboxed me this on Facebook after reading my Dean Smith status:

"move out of the state u f***n spic how about i come up to ur work and punch u in the f***n face for that smart remark about dean. noone likes kantucky except ur punk ass. i told emily not to get involved with ur bitchass dont know why she wont listen. mark my words i will punch u when i see u. dont need anyone to valch for me."

Tommy, I would think talking shit about Dean, while living in NC, on the day of his death is asking for trouble. Just bring your cape, bro.

In all seriousness, be safe.

Eh. All it was: "Too bad you can't four corners life."

Not really talking shit.
