Small sample size obviously. But all we’re wanting is some gradual/marginal progress towards anything but ABYSMAL.

We’ve now shown vs a great coach & likely tournament team, and a flaming hot explosive squad in the toughest environment possible…that we can be COMPETENT.

It’s a start.

  1. Maybe they are bad shooters, but Auburn missed a lot of shots. We were fortunate. Nice to get a game like that.
  2. Cal ran the floppy action late because our PGs - specifically Reed - had trouble getting around their defenders. This this why the draft hype of Reed is surprising to me. He struggles (for him) against more athletic, stronger guards. I hear they have some of those in the NBA.
  3. My 8-year son telling me, "dad, I don't trust Edwards. I basically only trust Reed, Reeves, and sometimes Dillingham" made me think of you all during the game.

Don’t trust Edwards for what?

The kid has had 4 solid games. Stats aside tonight because of 3 bogus foul calls on him his defense was sound and he had a few very important rebounds for us.

So if wanting him to become Reeves or Adou I get that you don’t trust him to become that. But I see the potential starting to really show. I’d give quite a bit for him to return and see what he is to become as a Sophomore.

Cracked my Ol Rip10 and Turkey Generations with my boy, ChOps tonight. Let’s effing go!

Guards. We got em.

My Minnesota friend texted last night and said our D has been terrible the last few games. I said man that’s our D when it’s playing better…

Would they have really wanted to be in there with you? My wife refuses to watch games with me.

“If you’re going to act like that . . . .”

Ummm, have I ever NOT acted like that in all of our 28 years together?”
Probably not. That's a fair point. But the MAIN point was, that I never wanted them there in the FIRST place, and I made that clear to my wife, after she suggested a "watch party". She should have known, after the UK/WVU fiasco, that ended with her and her two friends leaving in a cab, after I blew a gasket when one of her friends said some stupid platitude like, "Well, it was a good season" and I said, "Nobody wants to hear that GD sh*t. What a stupid f***ing thing to say right now..." that having company over for a big game doesn't play w/me. After they left, my oldest friend said, "Well, you WERE being an asshole" and so I told HIM to get the f*** out.

So, to sum it up. I didn't and still don't give two f***s what they want or like. I just knew that I didn't want to look at their stupid faces, and listen to their stupid, non-game related blather...

(unless they brought drugs, which they didn't)

-Felt good to wake up with that win this morning.

-Good to see Jaylan Brown with the Terrance Clarke tribute.

-Trying a new church out this morning. I like the one I’ve been going to since day one here but the only activity they really have outside of service is a men’s online group, need more options.

-Some pretty sad humans out there making SURE to know if Sabrina used the same ball and distance that Curry did for the 3PT contest.

^ same person couldn’t match them with block shots to 3s.

-Again, would marry Sabrina tomorrow. Huge fan. People need to watch themselves bad-mouthing Swift and Ionescu thinking there are no repercussions…

Defensive rebounding (and just general effort there) kept Auburn from getting clean looks on second chance points. Don't remember them having an offensive rebound turn into three points.

That has been such a killer this year. Between 29% shooters going 5/6 from three and every single ball bouncing directly to the other team it's been like we've been ice skating uphill in some of these games.

One game at a time right now. Let's get down to the bayou and get out of there with a dub (well past midnight EST).

It’s hard for me not to read this in Doyle Hargraves’ voice. Was this a deleted scene from “Sling Blade?”

-KD is trash. Wonder what the 5 real Auburn Basketballs think about him. Bennies wouldn't be happy, I know that.

-Pearl... I'm probably out on him. Just a Midwestern white trash version of Cal. I still like him but ready for a good coach rather than a sweaty hype man .

-Theiro, man. We all knew it was there but he's just a beast.

-Zebras in the 2nd half were a damn joke. Both ways. That Edwards' foul was worst call of the season.

-Just sub the 2 backup centers with Theiro still out there. It's really not that hard.

-Good for Cal taking a few shots. Deserved.

-WildCatChad owes Reeves a formal written apology. Giant marbles.

Auburn played like human dogshit. C’est le vie, floppy-banged bitches. Completely unimpressed with them.

KD Johnson is a c*nt. A less-talented Grant Williams.

Apologies to Adou. I just didn’t think he could refine his game and play extended minutes. Guy took advantage of Tre’s absence.

Took a 7am sip of OlRip10. Yep, it is that good.

That was as unlikely a win as I can remember in terms of team’s status, opponent, location, and the way we won.

I could do without Cal going passive aggressive sarcastic a-hole in the presser. That screams of thin-skinned insecurity. Just win and have some pride in the program. That’s all.

If all of that helps him keep that edge and pass it on to the dudes on this team, have at it.
I'm all for it. The F everyone, us against the world attitude works. Plus, he had a right to be pissy, imo. People are calling for his job and saying he can't coach. F 'em all, Cal! You do you!

Granted, I don't read your sports takes, what haven't you liked about Theiro? That's weird. Nearly all fans have seen this coming since last season.
I said I loved him for effort, but basically dick-fingers too many balls and falls down too much.

Last night he got clobbered and finished around the rim.

- The only thing Adou isn’t strong on is going from right wing to the left side of the lane. It’s an automatic block because he doesn’t have ball awareness on that angle.

- Pearl mentioned our pressure on his guards threw them off. Hey John maybe listen to that. We haven’t been good at sitting back in a 1/3 court man to man so pressure out. It doesn’t have to be Pitino style pressure, but anything that throws off their(any opponent) timing of play is a good thing.

Pearl is a good hire for UL that’s his peak.

- I understand the idea that Reed isn’t exactly ready to play against overly athletic long guards because he wasn’t sure of himself is what it “felt” like last night. But keep in mind he was 19 playing against a 23 year old bulldog or a 22 year old very long 6’7 Baker-Mazarre.

If he stays until his JR/SR year we’d expect him to dominate any 19 year old FR and he would. As it is he did a pretty damn good job of floor general in our best win in a few years.

-Dilly has to figure out the balance using the trash talk to motivate him vs letting it push him to make stupid bonehead plays. His 3rd and 4th foul he knew he messed up and it got the best of him.

- With Ugo and Adou having to play I fear what Cal does with a healthy Tre Mitchell. But I think we need Tre just as bad as the other 2 but I know our coach and……..worry about that when it comes.

Yeah, I'm not seeing what Kooky is seeing with Thiero. The way you describe him is a rich man's Archie Goodwin where I see him as more of a poor mans MKG, IMO.

Realistically, Thiero should be getting as many minutes at the 4 with Tre/Ugo at the 5 as is defensively feasible. Kind of weird that we had our best defensive performance to date without Tre out there, I blame the tropical shoe colors.

Reeves gets a ton of shit for wilting in big games but last night showed he can be who you depend on to get a crucial W. I was at the KSU game last year and you could tell his inability to hit a shot was crushing him since he was one of our only real threats. I'm hoping having Reed/Rob to relieve the pressure as an outside shooter insures we won't be losing in the tourney because our best shooter goes cold.

Ugo deserves it all man. Works hard, doesn't showboat or act out, seems like a great teammate (based on his interaction with Reed in the recent interview they did) and changes the makeup of our team when he's on the court. I thought he was another year away. Glad Cal doesn't force Bradshaw over him.

Speaking of, I like Edwards play of late but am still baffled at why he insists on starting him every game if he's just going to hook him three minutes in (regardless of how he plays) for Rob/Reed. Just start the three headed monster (3 of Rob, Reed, DJ and Reeves) in the back court and let's see how the first 4 minutes go. Rob seems like the type of guy that excels off the bench. Reed seems like he should never be on the bench.

Nice W.

Yeah guess so. Oh well. Vandy sucks.
Ummm duh, it’s @BigOrange something… you headline readers man, no doubt 73 flies off the handle at any front page bold type he doesn’t immediately agree with.

Reeves now my top UK guard, fwiw.
-Regarding Chad’s guard rankings, if we’re talking college right now:
Reeves
Sheppard
Dillingham
Wagner

For me.
^this has been the order for me for a month in order of who we need most this year.

That was such a fun game. We had absolutely no business winning that game but somehow Toppin played like young Magic and Reeves went off like Jodie Meeks.

Cal, like Donald Trump, would do a lot better if he shut his fat GD mouth a lot more, imo. He came across like a thin-skinned asshole last night. A win at Auburn is nice but it isn't like you earned a soap box with a title win or anything.

Theiro reminds me a bit of DeAndre Liggins. Just a dog you need on your team. Liggins was an outstanding defender and adou is not that yet. But he's fearless and has those crazy eyes.

Reed and Dilly have got to be more secure with ball when dribbling around the circle.

Nice to have a game where our opponent didnt make every shit shot they thru at the rim. Auburn isn't a great 3 pt shooting team. They missed a lot but they usually do.

Just keep winning.
