I thought when Keion Brooks transferred that we'd be spared a power forward taking boneheaded midrange shots. Guess not.

So far we’ve got multiple commercials with Santa stabbing a guy in the face with a star and a guy choking to death by a closing sun roof.

Flightline, at the top of the stretch, squeezed Life Is Good a little against the rail… threw it into hyperspace as he stole his soul.

Our team defense has the potential to be elite this year. Having experienced players back makes such a difference, especially in understanding rotations to help. Pretty impressive so far.

Game Thoughts:

- Just so nice having two snipers. Both are smart ballplayers who can attack closeouts, too. Reeves has an edge, doesn’t give a shit. Love those types especially with Cal. Fredrick is just a wonderful ballplayer- the type who would excel on any basketball team in any era.

- Wallace is exactly as advertised. Doesn’t give an inch. Doesn’t make many mistakes. D’s you up. Rebounds. Can play with anyone. Trustworthy.

- I’ve said many times I think Livingston is a 4 and Toppin is a 4, but both are really 3.5s which means they can play together, although not optimal. Even Collins at the 4 doesn’t dismay me as much as it normally would because he’s so different athletically.

- Toppin just carried himself differently now. Always love a 4 who can clean the glass and bring it up the floor. His efficiency isn’t great but as long as he rebounds like that, fine.

- Livingston is interesting. Does some nice things. Will be cool seeing how he develops.

- Oyenso’s a revelation. Gives us an X-factor and could be really really good in a year.

- Thiero is young but he knows how to play. Going to be a good one.

- I’m no Wheeler hater and think he has a big place on this team but it’s really hard not to believe our best lineup doesn’t feature:

Wallace
Fredrick
Reeves
Toppin
Tshiebwe

- I’m excited. Obviously we’re going to be really good defensively and on the glass with Tshiebwe, but with Cal pushing 25 threes a game, we have a lot of firepower.

Keys will be lineups and going with Wallace over Wheeler down the stretch in tight games.

I think Wheeler is underappreciated, but I could absolutely picture Cal after the season talking about our title run and how this team was selfless and came together, and highlighting Wheeler giving up his starting spot and accepting a 6th man role for the good of the team. "An all-SEC, senior point guard, coming off the bench? You kidding me? That's being your brother's keeper..."

As a spark plug off the bench Wheeler would be perfect. People throw the term "change of pace" around, but that kid is a human change of pace. He'd thrive coming into a lackluster game and wrecking house to spark a 12-2 run. And the fans who have been lukewarm towards him would love him in that role.

UKO (not the pedo/inbred/mentally challenged one) runs like a damn gazelle. I thought Big O was quick running the court but I’m not sure if UKO isn’t faster. For a should be HS Senior he definitely plays better than the project he supposedly was expected to be.

Knew we had more talent and should win but not having 3 starters showed the depth and gets the other players valuable minutes early.

If I hit the Powerball I’m buying Scags house and personally kicking him out of the state. Would also entertain buying out Milque Toasts contract so he has company on his exit. Definitely buying the seat next to Cal so I can put a ball gag on him during games.

Indeed.

Wheeler is a senior floor general who has led the SEC in assists multiple times and likely will again this year. He's going to play a lot this year -- as well he should, especially when Wallace inevitably hits the freshman hump in January/February.

My hope is that Cal tends to pair Wheeler at the point when Reeves plays the three and Wallace at the 1 when Livingston plays the 3.

With Wallace, Fredrick, and Reeves we have three shooters who can score to rotate at the 2 and 3 spots. Wheeler's limitations would be much less problematic if he was constantly playing with two of Wallace, Fredrick, and Reeves. However it happens, maximizing the time that we have at least two of Wallace, Fredrick, and Reeves on the floor at the same time is the key.

* My dream chaos lineup is Wheeler, Wallace, Fredrick, Reeves, and Oscar.

* People who send emails and then immediately send a follow up text or voicemail to tell you that they did, in fact, just send you an email are the worst. If I haven't responded for a couple of days, a follow up is no problem but my sweet Lord is that aggravating.

Eat D Lamb shot 47.52 from three in his two years here. Frederick will challenge that this year. reeves can shoot close to 40. Wallace around 35. Toppin and Livingston at around 30.

What has cal done?

Been voting for nearly 30 years, all in Lexington, and have never voted on paper until today. What’s the reasoning here?
It was like that for the primaries too. I guess it's to have a hard copy record so people can't complain about rigged machines 🤷

Yeah I knew the paper ballots were going to be a thing from primaries but I’m not sure how you’re supposed to know if your bubble was completely filled in using a cheap Bic pen.

As long as we refuse to leap into the 21st century and start allowing the people to vote easily via the internet/smart phone, etc, I'm totally cool with it.

Scatter brained thoughts:

-Wheeler is gonna start. He just is. Pre-Season 1st Team All SEC. Multiple time SEC assist leader. He just needs to distribute and pressure guards. Stop with the hero ball bullshit that can make us vulnerable to anyone.

-Still really loving what I see out of Livingston. 19 minutes, 9pts, 4 boards. Guys similar to him over the last 5-6 years tended to fade into the background. This dude is grabbing loose balls and making little hustle plays. My favorite play of the game when he dove in head first to a wild loose ball scrum at mid-court . That's some MKG shit. Finishes strong. Has been showing signs of a respectable outside shot. Don't turn into a diva, big guy.

-Reeves and CJ are going to force Cal to play them. Love it. Studs.

-Speaking of Toppin. I guess he's going to take those falling back mid range jumpers... but I wish he wouldn't. That little turn around 5-6' shot, he put up a gorgeous hook, put backs, dunks, and an occasional open 3. That's where he should be. That being said, he looks fantastic and a completely different player. He needs to stop acting like he's injured 5 times a game

-Lead guard that can shoot respectably, 2 dead eye wings, and the returning POY/ best rebounder in the last 30 years. Not to mention Toppin.

-Upperclassmen, promising multi year prospects, continuity. I'm pretty happy with this new direction. Just stay out of the way with the micromanaging BS. Team has the potential to be much more complete than the one we saw last January.
