Terrible, terrible game. Doesn't matter that Brooks had 22 and kept us in the game. All of those made 15 footers could have been 3 point attempts. Even with misses, it increases our overall attempts. I know we would have been down by 8 or 10 at the half, but it just makes our shot chart look something awful. Brooks can't be on the floor, made midrange 2s or not.

Also very disappointed in TyTy's performance. He was missing his 3s early, which is ok, but then he stopped shooting them. He hits a midrange jumper, which may have got him going to his big game, but was really fool's gold. He started driving, hitting pull ups and getting to the line. Unacceptable! Imagine if all those drives and pull ups were 3 attempts? Even if he kept missing, it increases our attempts and makes our shot chart look better.

Not pleased with Mintz either. I saw him pass up a few threes for drives to the basket. He may have scored, but shit Davion, you could have shot a 3. He even had a late 3 that he faked and took a pull up jumper. Yes he hit it, but does that really matter? We need high 3 point numbers. Taking 2s instead is just plum dumb. We would have been better off running stuff non stop for Grady in order to get 3 attempts. It doesn't matter that he wasn't being aggressive. It doesn't matter that he was making zero impact on the game. He needs to be in there firing up 3s non stop.

I know Ohio is a good team. I know we got their best shot. I know they had a bunch of guys who play like me and hit everything they put up in the first half. I know they got all the calls. I know Oscar was out the whole first half. I know we showed great hustle. I know we fought like hell. I know we won by 18.

But just imagine if Nate Oats was coaching this team? We may have only won by 5 but we would have shot nearly thirty 3s and our shot chart would look tremendous. Instead, we're stuck with an idiot coach who has no idea what he's doing. This may seem like a quality win, but we would have been much better off with an L with 30+ 3s in the long run. Gonna be a long season.

*except for the Grady part. A guard is going to get ‘left out’ pretty much every game, fine.

But We absolutely need to figure out a way to feature him. Camping out in the corner on most possessions is by design, and leads to him going 8-10 poss without a single TOUCH… and that’s unfortunate.

Do agree that he should just get the ball and tell Cal and his teammates to f*** off now and then. But he has to get the ball, first.

Him being “passive” has VERY little to do with his shot attempts. He fires at the slightest window…just gets zero run his way for long stretches.

That’s not bitching. That’s a fact.

-Ohio is a tournament team, easily. Catching up here is always better than being a part of the in game.

-Our pool has destroyed our yard. I mean it’s so overwhelmingly awful now I am considering a landscaping bid to get it done quick vs doing it myself and taking at least a month.

- I cashed out on my book twice this season already pretty damn big. But now I’m down. It’s amazing the bad picks you make when your down, and the ones you want to make and start second guessing yourself like UK -7 at the half. Stupid Keith Van Horn ass honkey type!

- I look at the Stoops rumors as a litmus test. If he is rumored to be possible there, but stays.........WHOA NELLY!

- For real almost broke down tonight thinking about how many times I’d ride with my mom down home for thanksgiving and be out in some relatives den staying up watching Maui Tournament games all night with unlimited Turkey day cooking in the kitchen overnight.

Just a few days away from the the most bipolar holiday seasons for the rest of my life. Smile and be happy for my kids so they’ll never know I’m dying inside missing the person that made this next month stretch the best month of my life for 41 years.

- On a positive note, paperwork is submitted for the distillery. Partnerships made, enough investors ready to rock n roll, and my dumbass is about to make the ghost of my parents more proud than they’d have ever guessed! Finish line in sight!

I feel like Ohio did everything they could to keep Grady from going off which opened other stuff.

Open 15 footers are fine. 19 footers are a cancer.

Any open shot with Oscar out there is good tho.

Evidently the next game and another game is on espn+ because of SEC mandate that all teams have some streaming only games. Horseshit we are UK and all of our games should be readily available with a cable subscription.

Speaking of Bellermine… my wife is an alum from her masters work.

Those mf’ers have the most aggressive fund-raising campaign this side of Scientology/Amway. Our land line receives about 3 calls a week… 2 of which are guaranteed Bellermine calls. Scotty needs a new pair of shoes, I reckon.

You should have just said “I missed the game unfortunately, but saw the box score”

Grady spent the entire game in the corner in a triple threat catch position. Didn’t even touch the ball on the bull shit 40’ weave.

Went 8-10 possessions without a solitary touch several times.

That’s not defensive coaching…it’s offensive.

Again, I loved this game. But the Grady waste needs to be eliminated if we’re to be great.

Catholic school. That's blocking and tackling, babe.

All I'm saying is not leaving Grady was one of Ohio's main focus points. Not that we didn't make it easy for them because we did.

I had one leg over the wall my freshman year at UK, to rush the field. When that fagg@t caught that TD pass with no time left. So I despise him also.
I’m fairly certain we got to UK at the same time.

So.....was that your 3rd freshman year? Doering caught that ball in September of 93.

It was 40-38 at halftime and they won by 18. Da fuq you talking about now?
Yup, that was Sauvignon Blanc math apparently. Didn’t even look at my site just somehow figured I’d lost. Woke up to check to see how much I was still up and saw $400, 🤔 well what do you know, I won.

Waiting to cash in Monday after we smoke NM State and hit the UK Fball wins Over 7 as well. Will
take those 5 Franklins and add them to my secret stash that the bank never gets to see.

You have a land line?

Oscar was responsible for a bunch of 2nd half points because his freakish offensive rebounding. Love that guy.

1st "boring" Friday night in weeks. I decided to chill and took the kids out to dinner. Today is lining up to be another day of relaxation.

he reminds me a LITTLE of Nazr Mohammed with the soft hands - mobile post feet/positioning and tenacious rebounds

Postgame randos:

- Overall: best we've looked in a long time, going back more than this year. So much fluidity on offense, zero threat of shot clock violations (until we went StallBall™ late in the second half), good effort on defense and rebounds. A lot to like. With Oscar out, our offense still looked very effective, and everybody else stepped up to rebound.

- That smallball lineup of Wheeler/Washington/Allen/Hopkins/Brooks has been touched on already, but it made me very happy and I think was something like +11 in 6 minutes. And I was impressed that Cal was willing to play that way for a bit.

- IMO, the biggest difference in the first half vs the second half wasn't that Oscar was playing - it's that Ohio stopped making every shot they threw up regardless of degree of difficulty. That Wisconsin White Boy was absolutely cooking us in the first half.

- Super impressed with Washington. I don't know what my impressions of his game were based on preseason and the Duke game, but it wasn't that. Still had his moments of freshman mistakes and unforced turnovers, but he played poised and under control, got to his spots with ease, and was a willing passer. I actually thought we looked a little better on offense at times with him initiating vs Wheeler.

- Speaking of Wheeler, probably doesn't need to be said, but he is the prototypical jitterbug PG that has always given us fits and I'm so glad we got one of those on our team.

- Clearest difference between this year and last is that we have a bunch of guys who know how to play basketball whereas last year we had between 0 and 2 on any given night.

- So happy to see Mintz get to have positive moments in front of a home crowd finally. You could tell he was loving it. He deserves it. That dude just plays.

Some nits to pick:
- Oscar is not good at defending the pick and roll. He almost always makes the wrong decision. They got a few good looks off this then stopped going to it for some reason. This is something we usually struggle with early in the season and should be teachable, so not too worried about it now.

- Look...... I know that Brooks got 22 and 8, but I don't think him taking 18 shots - and 12 from the midrange! - is sustainable offense. When they are as wide open as some of them were, he has to take a few. But he isn't going to shoot 75% on those for the year.

- Again, agree that we have to get Grady involved. He is the closest thing to a wing we have on this squad and gives us a dimension (slashing to the rim) that we don't get elsewhere. If you're looking where to get his minutes... well, Brooks played 37.

- Actually a little worried that Toppin coming back will gum things up. I like him, but defenses don't even pretend to guard him. There should be ways to integrate him into this offense, so I'll reserve judgment for now.
