I think the "Louisville" politician thing is a myth. Isn't McConnell a Louisville politician. I think Conway is a shitty campaigner. I couldn't tell you one thing he ran on, all I saw from his commercials was that Bevin was a liar. His campaign against Paul, all I can remember is the "Aqua Buddha" nonsense.

This. I don't think Republicans were excited at all about Bevin. We are a two Republican household and Bevin didn't get a single vote here. Wife voted for Conway (Kim Davis stuff did it for her with Bevin) and I voted for Drew Curtis.

Conway was an anchor on that entire ticket. The Democratic machine in this state is broken. They were convinced Conway would win tonight by more than the 5% he was polling at and Bevin won easily. They were convinced last year that Grimes could take out McConnell and he smoked her. I think she could have won the governor's race tonight paired with the the right running mate had she stayed out of that mess. Their whole system needs an overhaul.

Edelen should have won easily, Grimes should have won easily and Beshear should have coasted in on daddy's name with ease. Two of the three limped across the finish line despite much deeper pockets and far greater name recognition, while the other was sent home sucking on his cotton candy by another less known candidate. I've lived here all my life and have followed politics since middle school and I have never seen the Democrats get their ass kicked in state elections like this. Surreal.

Ohio rejecting pot legalization (especially by that margin) is more embarrassing than if Kim Davis won the governorship on the Dixiecrat ticket with the Jefferson Davis statue as her running mate. TS

Where did your '94 Tempo go to high school?
Our Lady of every Midwestern town with a population large enough to differentiate social class by high school and small enough that one can still be cognizant of every high school - yet still thinks it's a unique social quirk to that particular city.

I agree in that I've never seen Democrats get their ass kicked this badly in an election, but I don't think Conway was the anchor. Pretty sure Obama was. I just landed a well paying job with the govt. Open ended contract as an IT security access administrator, and now with Bevin coming in, looking to downsize, my contractual job is gonna be at the front of the line for the chopping block. Not happy about this at all.

my favorite political ads are the ones waaaay down the ticket, where the Rs still tied their opponents entire campaign to those gd liberal obama policies.

DO YOU TRUST JACK QUEERBUSH AS YOUR NEXT ASSISTANT DOGCATCHER?? HES NOTHING MORE THAN A LIBERAL MOUTHPIECE FOR OBAMA! WAKE UP, BUMTOUCH COUNTY. AND LET QUEERBUSH KNOW WEVE HAD ENOUGH OF HIS LIBERAL OBAMA AGENDA!!

Yet all the negative campaign ads focused on Obama... Don't think any negative campaign tied anyone to Conway.

the republican ticket will be even stronger next year when you drop $2700 in andy barrs pocket.

tilting the election that unfairly in your direction? shame on you.

I disagree on the Louisville vs the rest of the state. I hear people complain constantly about how Louisville pays way more taxes to the state than it gets credit for, and the rural areas live off those funds. I try to remind those idiots that the rural areas grow the crops and raise the livestock that feed them...such in depth thought can be lost on many folks.

The state has always disliked Louisville, its a political fact. You have like 1 gov from Lou ever, and its like 100 years ago. But Bevin and Conway both reside in Lou and have for years. It negated itself this year.

Yeah, I'm sure the Republicans forgot to mention Obama in 2011.

Yet none of the other campaign ads mention Conway when going negative... It's all Obama... Why are you figuring Conway is the culprit? Obama has been in office longer and a lot more Kentuckians are upset at his policies than in 2011. That's what I get away from it....

matt gd bevin. lol.

that dude had a hitler youth rally staged at wildcatadams house like 3 years ago, and had to pull out because about 4 people rsvpd. i believe at least one was a relative, and another someone's pet dog.

and now he's the governor.

:joy:

I know GYERO is going politard tonight, but there aren't too many nights like tonight. This was a pretty big deal.

Edelens opponent won and he didn't even campaign. $27,000 was enough to buy some yard signs, that's it.
Like coolcat said, the democratic machine is broken in this state. Just like him, my wife and I both are R's, I voted for Curtis, she didn't vote. Half the republicans I know weren't voting for Bevin, yet he wins by 8%.
What's even more alarming, they have swept all the lower ticket for 60+ years. And tonight they got trounced despite having much, much, much more $, a ton more name recognition, and several even being incumbents. This is beyond a big blow to them.

.

Bevin lost me when he tied his wagon to Kim Davis. Still think he was the lesser of two turrible choices, but the meltdown on social media has been enjoyable.

Listen, Kentucky is kind of a toilet state, honestly. In four years, we'll still be bottom of the barrel in education, quality of life, lice infestation, etc. Things aren't gonna change much no matter who the governor is.
Matt Jones will change things when he is guv.

I'm sure he read "The Energy Bus" per Cal's rec at this point and will "make ish right" a la Bledsoe.

Biggest thing that Matt Jones has is that he's an "outsider" and that kind of thing is a positive with voters these days. Establishment politicians are becoming less and less electable. Trump, Carson, Bevin..... There's a pattern here....

Bevin 2016: "Today is a new day in Kentucky. Our entire way of life is about to change!"

Bevin 2020: "Today is a new day in Kentucky. We have officially passed Arkansas and are now 46th nationally in garbage fires. Next up - 45th place. Look out, North Dakota!"

rob is a republican??

huh.

didn't help much.

And as a Republican, I have thoroughly enjoyed your girlfriend/common law wife/traveling gypsy friend melt down on Facebook about how terrible Ky is going to be now.
Oh no, if we drop from 47th ALL the way down to 49th in education, what will we do......gasp!!!!
Seriously, reign that shit in brah, it makes you look just as foolish.

As a Republican, I compare this to being Billy Clyde Gillispies brother. Yeah it's cool your brother just got the head coaching job at the greatest program of all time, but you know it's a matter of time before he embarrasses himself, the program and the family in a major way.
Hope I'm wrong, but I feel like Bevins is our BCG.

- Who was the last truly great Kentucky politician? Henry Clay and his compromising on slavery BS? Isaac Shelby?

- The Democrat machine failing in KY is unbelievable. Every single person I grew up with/around is a registered Democrat. I didn't see a county official run as a Republican until 2011. 95% of the registered voters were Democrat just to vote in the primary. The DNC has been just as liberal at times in the past (George McGovern for PREZ!) and Kentucky has been more conservative. Not sure what explains this

Meanwhile my temporary homes of Tennessee and Alabama seem to really have the whole political thing figured out.*

*No, no they dont.

Whole damn world is a mess.

It really was/is surreal. As was mentioned earlier, I think it's the outsider trend and perhaps some of the Trump thing about avoiding the "low-energy guy". Lots of registered Dems couldn't get fired up about Conway and he just isn't a great campaigner. Bevin 'sounds' like he has a plan until you listen to what he's actually saying. I can't imagine anybody wanting the Gov job at this point.

On the lighter side, I guess all of the GAMBOLs can bet on cockfighting now.
