I don't hate Richards, in fact, I have a feeling he will be improve greatly when (if?) he comes back next year.

...but man that dude has prompted more early game redass from me than any player ever. There really is no justifiable reason to start him.

But he is someone's son, dammit!

krazy trying (and failing) to post THREE images in The Depot, of all places, in a thread started by a guy who passed away, of all threads, is...I mean...I'm struggling here....

I feel like Richards continues to start only for the 5 starting Freshman talking point.
He could have started Vando several times and didn't. He's starting him because he's blindly loyal to the kids and he's not going to roll anyone under the bus. I don't know why it kills people that he starts, then plays the kid about 10 minutes a game, and has most of the season. Seems to have worked with Hami.

Eh, whatever. We used to have a test board I looked somewhere else to try and figure it out, and the thread title was “test”.

I didn’t bother reading it at all, and I’m only responding because it’s awful a poster passed away and I’ll now delete those post.

Players lose starting positions all the time, coaches tinker with different starting lineups all the time. It's not throwing a kid under the bus to experiment with different starting lineups. In fact, Richards might actually benefit from watching some of the game early and playing against subs rather than the fresh legs of the other teams best players. I think he would certainly benefit playing with Wenyen and Quade combo to get more floor spacing. Green lost his starting position, Washington lost his...if a player can't deal with that mentally than I'm not sure I want them out there to begin with.

Anyway, I would rather enjoy our good play and good fortune than whine about starting lineups (until next game), Cal is obviously pushing the right buttons at the right time. We are all wildcat friends here go cats!

The difference between Hami and Richards is sufficiently obvious -- Hamidou has outrageous talent but for whatever reason he had problems putting it to work on the court.

Richards is tall.

I haven't listened to the Cal call-in show in years but had to work a little late at the shop today so figured what the hell..... Swaggy Cal is back. Calling out fans for not believing in the team, asked audience to raise their hands if they didnt think team would be where they are (i bowed my head and raised hand). Basically said he's done this before and if you aren't on board thats on you.

I mean, this is the kind of take only comes about when you're livid inside and can't find any rational reason to express how pissed off you are. It warms my heart to know that people are taking this shit so personally.... [laughing]

But, this prompted me to actually take a look at our paths in the NCAA-T since Calipari became the HC:
  • 4 out of the 8 years, UK's road in the region has consisted of playing the top seed possible at that point in the tournament.
  • In the 4 years that weren't complete chalk, 2010 is probably the only year that the bracket "opened" up for UK with Wake in the 2nd Round and Cornell in the S16. Then WVU happened...
  • In 2015, we played the 5-seed in the S16 (instead of the 4-seed) and the 3-seed in the E8 (instead of the 2-seed). Hard to say that the bracket "opened" that year. Then Wisconsin happened...
  • In 2017, we played Wichita St. as a 10-seed in the 2nd round, when in reality, they should've been an 8-seed at worse. Other than that, the road to the F4 was chalk.
It's not hyperbole to say that UK is consistently in one of the top-2 toughest regions every year in the NCAA-T and almost always has one of the toughest roads to the F4. Where is the outrage when a bracket breaks for Kansas, Duke, or UNC.

F*ck em all.

Which DeCourcy has touched on frequently, which is why he’s the best in the business.

Great to see Darius taking full advantage of his NBA shot.

What's interesting is that Darius, between stints in the NBA, played for Brose Bamberg in Bavaria. Bavaria is the nicest and wealthiest area of Germany; not a bad spot if you are outside the US.

Meanwhile, you hear about all of these other dudes who were basically in Miller's class from a talent standpoint go play in Aleppo (maybe one step above that, but still).

Is the German league harder to get into, or are other guys just choosing playing in Lebanon, Turkey, etc.?

Found it at the end of senior year...how many of those MFs did he pass up? He's always had it, one of my favorite players...couldn't be happier for a dude.

Thank you for reminding me to delete an 8 year old FB post that you liked this AM. [laughing]

In between jobs so don't want to take any chances.

It's that same corner three he passed up at Ole Miss iirc, that cost us the game, which was our low point that season, but led to him finally pushing himself to overcome his passive approach on the court and leading that team (and being the senior leader of the title team.) and eventually carving out an NBA role.

And now he leads the league in that same shot??? Jesus, talk about a story book career. What a great dude.

The funniest thing about the original story Tucker replied to is it didn't change how I felt about Lupica, because I already thought he was a stereotypical self-important dweeb. It did, however, make me think whoever that chick was writing the story was a very annoying jackass who likes to do ish like come up with elaborate baseball handshakes to introduce an author. Ok, toots [eyeroll]

-Bonus to Tom Crean moving into the league, another one of the bullshit bully ball teams is out.

-I don't really get the Mark Fox is a good coach. 9 years, 2 NCAA R64 Ls and never won the league.

-Lupica is the most obvious turd of all time. Like you can just see it. A real pounch me face.

-Shai getting more love - SI

The mid-to-late lottery feels about right for Young, who’s now in competition with Sexton and Gilgeous-Alexander to be the first point guard drafted.

Didn't Bob Ryan throw in a line about UL taking advantage of young blacks after their OTL hooker special? If that was him, he is ok in my book.

Matt Norlander is consistently terrible. This time he’s re-seeded the sweet 16. UK is not in his top 10 and is behind Loyola and Nevada. He also has A&M as the 3rd worst team left.

I honestly don’t think he understands basketball at all. I’ve never seen him write anything smart or insightful.
Norlander tried to defend that by saying the list accounted for season-long resume and tournament performance. Okay, well (1) that's stupid, and (2) he threw "UK NOT IN TOP 10" in the headline. What a nerd.

Bob Ryan was among the first and most vehement to rip Pitino for taking the U of L job, calling him an outright traitor, and doing something you JUST DON'T DO in sports - going to coach your former school's blood rival. He GETS it. (Of course, being a Boston guy, he probably didn't like Pitino to begin with).

Also hung out with him at FF in Houston in 2011 (after UConn loss:mad:).

I think he reseeded it based on adding the two opening round games to the team’s resumes and not as a “Power Ranking” - which is what everyone would and should assume a reseeding would be.

I saw him explaining on Twitter (where he said it was not a Power Ranking) and it reminded me of MJ on the radio yesterday, “If you’re explainin’, you’re losin’. This is Exhibit A.
