-It doesn't matter until the signature, but all signs pointing to Marrow straight-up beating Urb for that Ohio LB. Big if true.

-Olympics geek here. Hate the subjective stuff(anything with judges' scores), but hockey, speedskating, and those events where people are careening down snow chutes on the brink of death....I'm ALL IN.

-Sad to hear of the Derby Festival Classic going away. Was definitely on that trajectory ever since the Jordan Brand Classic and other games rose up. The KY-Indiana All-Star series is on its last legs, too. Hate the casualties of the changing basketball landscape over the past 5-10 years(no more Great Alaska Shootout, no more Nike ABCD camp, etc.), but oh well.

-Is there still a legitimate reason to have two weeks between the conference title games and the Super Bowl? It's not like it helps with the hype. This morning I couldn't even remember who the Pats will be playing. Just get it over with, already.

The week between conference games and the Super Bowl is up with the ASG break in terms of worst weeks for sports talk/Twitter/radio the whole #takes industry in general.

<-- Gets to work a 9:00 PM ( :15, if we're being honest) tipoff on Valentine's Day night. Much like the 10 PM tip on New Years Eve a few years ago, it actually works out pretty well because then I don't have to go along with plans that involve too many other people trying to do the same thing at the same time.

College basketball coaching randoms....

-What a contrast in the coaching hires at Cal and Washington in the Pac-12. I realize Washington is a much better job, but still....they'd really done their homework on Mike Hopkins and so far, he's killing it. And he's a west coast guy originally, so I could see him staying there a long time unless the pull of the alma mater brings him back to replace Boeheim(as he was originally supposed to do).

Meanwhile, Cal loses Cuonzo and freaks out and immediately promotes Wyking Jones instead of doing a thorough coaching search, and they've won exactly one conference game(in a conference that includes Oregon State and Ernie Kent). I don't know why they felt like they had to rush their search, but it's biting them.

(Note....I don't exactly feel bad for Marcus Lee, because I'm sure he's happier on the left coast, but man....winning one Pac-12 game for Wyking Jones isn't what that kid had in mind).

-Seems like John Brannen(NKU) is in line for a high-major job at some point, but with him being a northern Kentucky native, I wonder if he's waiting it out to see if one of the local(UC/X) jobs comes open in the next five years. He's already proven he can do more with less, recruiting-wise.

-I really like watching Rick Byrd's Belmont teams. Over 600 wins in 30 years at a small school when he's had plenty of chances to angle for bigger jobs. They're always fun to watch on offense....a bunch of shooters with just enough athleticism mixed in to stay on the boards. If they ever won an actual NCAA-T game, he'd be a much bigger story.

I don't have time for pop-ups/confirmations or ads when I'm webbing, but I *do* have respect for the little condescending ones that you see from time to time.

- I think it will be interesting to see how DePaul's brand new downtown Chicago arena helps with recruiting and their resurgence on the national scene. Always a sleeper/sleeping giant of a program. What's Joey Meyer up to these days?

- How about these classic unis? Not a bad look in the bunch (except Kansas...dude looks like a cartoon). The Georgetown unis are :fire:...

Is Pitino too toxic for a St. John’s or Depaul type gig? Surely not. I’d actually love to see him land somewhere up east with a little pedigree and make one last dastardly run at the Final Four.

Man eff Pitino

Oberlin College’s sports team’s mascot is the “Yeomen” which has to be the least inspiring athletic mascot ever. At least is was in the 90s, they probably disbanded sports by now

I don't have any wish to see Pitino succeed again, but St. John's would indeed be hella interesting. Not sure there would be a better fit for his current state, imo. That place is and has been a mess.

Worst mascot has to go this guy...

Dude is an absolute dick. Dancing in front of our cheerleaders and band during their routines at the Final Four in 98. Antagonizing our fans. Total dick. And likely from NJ or Connecticut.

False it’s the best mascot. The whole idea behind it and the “band” not taking stuff like cheerleaders and bands seriously is great.

And that guy probably runs a hedge fund now so lol he owns you, most likely.

Friar Dom (Providence) has the slack jaw that's just unsettling to me. Also, apparently no arms or hands.

The worst is Willie the Wildcat at Kansas State, right? It's just a head.

I mean it’s a college student dressed as an animal or giant headed laborer/clergy or stereotype.

I worry more about the ones who take it too seriously tbh

If I could pinpoint when this happened and go back in the archives...

Several years ago WVU's Mountaineer mascot graduated and there was a ridiculous application process to become the new Mountaineer that included an essay and UCL did a mock Mountaineer mascot application essay that made me laugh very hard.

- WTF is a Demon Deacon?

- Sea foam green, bitches. Learn it. Appreciate it.

- We pound Mizzou.

- BBdK still contends David Booth was a better player than Keith Booth so keep that in mind the next time he tries to talk hoops. POSEUR.

The most disturbing thing about the OKState mascot is that at one time, he was portrayed by the husband of one of those Duggar girls.

I am embarrassed to know this.

? I loved Keith Booth and that entire era of Maryland Hoops. If Joe Smith had had a name better than Joe Smith, he'd be on my all time non-UK starting 5. #ExreeHipp

Ole Jamal is fastly becoming one of the nastiest guards in the league, right along with Booker. Good call on him, Geese.

-once owned a fender stratocaster in seafoam green.

-meeting my guy for some mtm dress shirts this afternoon. Thinking of a nice light blue or purple prince of wales check and a fresh tattersall or two. Will keep you guys in the loop.

If Pitino is Coach 2, and he is, then he will most likely have a lengthy 'show cause' to contend with. Seeing him at a St. John's would be fun though.

I’ say this about Louisville- I’m glad they went down for stuff like paying players and buying prostitutes for recruits instead something like this Michigan State mess. That makes me sick to my stomach, whereas you can laugh about Louisville’s issues. They’re like the Wet Bandits.
