Game over

This one is over, obviously.

Can't wait for the McDonald's AA game! Maybe we'll see some future stars like SKJ.

I'm done. Anyone know where Potsie lives and goes for morning coffee?

Ballgame. Frees up the rest of my day - Shitter ---> boys basketball game -----> boys baseball game -----> finish with girls basketball game.
[smoke]

When Fox comes back, hopefully it helps get the rotation into tourney shape.

Fox 32 mpg
Monk 32-35
Hawkins 25
Briscoe 15
Willis 32
Bam 32-35
Gabriel 15
Mulder and Izak only as needed

Monk will get the shine but Bam is playing the best basketball of his career. He's making that late year leap we've come to expect from Cal's freshmen bigs.

Also, props to Willis' work on the glass and Hawkins' steady hand.

Big win. Huge win sans Fox.

Hawkins absolutely plays his balls off every second he is on the court. Happy to see him have an impact his senior year.

If Briscoe had Hawkins selfless attitude, this team would be so much better. They both play basically the same role on this team and even though Briscoe has far more talent, Hawkins is better for the team right now.

It's amazing how effective Monk can be when he's willing to drive. Cal's reaction with about 5 minutes left after he drove and got fouled was perfect.

One small criticism: It seems like Monk tries to get going with his jump shot at the beginning of every game. Maybe start with a drive or two and find shots after they start to play off?

Or just go crazy and singlehandedly win the game. That's cool too.

I didn't think we had a snow ball's chance in hell without Fox today. Obviously. Floored we won without him. Would have been a little surprised if we had won with him after Tuesday at Missouri.

Monk is our first option. Monk is our second option. Monk is our third option. Everything else should flow from that. Asked Bam how well it worked for him.

We still looked our absolute best with Briscoe on the bench. That's when the big run happened that flipped the game. He has a role on this team, but it is as a hustle/garbage/defense guy, not a featured part of the offense.

Hawkins gave big minutes today. That last play where he bothered the run out and never turned around and fouled kept them at arm's length and killed their momentum. The pressure would have been on us to come back down and score if they hit that layup. Big play late.

I would give Fox next week off. The kid hasn't been 100% in a month. For this team to reach their ceiling, he needs to be back to being the guy that he was in November and December. Let him rest up and heal all his nagging injuries.

The difference between a guy with "it" and a solid player who can shoot; Mulder gets a wide open look from three in a spot that would have been a huge momentum swinging dagger. Misses. Monk gets a wide open look from three late in the game from a busted play that would have been a huge dagger. Splash. We never looked back.

Didn't let go of the rope. Best effort in weeks.

Proved me wrong today. Really the first time all season they responded well to adversity. Good toughness and poise, and having Monk go crazy never hurts.

I wouldn't dare say that the team turned a corner, but I feel good enough to say it about individuals and I believe it with conviction about Bam Adebayo. Regardless of whether or not the statistics have spelled it out, he's had 5 really good games in a row. I love that guy. I want to be that guy's teammate.

It took Cal until this point of the season in 2011 to realize that the best offense for his squad was the dribble handoff. I can't say for sure what the clearcut solution is for this bunch other than more ball movement and Monk attacking the rack, but the great ones do adjust.

He is the kind of kid that CBS does a special on at the Final Four. How many dudes have you seen like that over the years?

Senior waited his turn and it's paying off during ________'s run to the Final Four. Played behind more talented teammates. Just kept working hard and waiting for his time to come. Now it finally has.

I have a hard time understanding why we've allowed ourselves to become so stagnant on offense lately.

I mean a high screen for Fox by a big should have him flying to the lane with a layup/floater or kick to Monk or Willis/Hawk/Mulder or lob to Bam as options.

Defies logic that we've had Briscoe pounding air out of ball trying to feed Bam on block. But I'm not pulling in 8 figures to coach, so...

Florida's best look was a 35 foot three pointer from Allen. I mean they are surprised they only shot 7?

It was in large part due to lineup combinations.

By surrounding Monk with low volume, efficient players, we were able to maximize his shooting and driving opportunities. And what do you know, almost all of Monk's shots came at the rim or from three! How about that? We craft an offensive strategy around getting our best player on that end some shots, and saw success.

The way we had been playing, Briscoe was dominating the ball way too much, trying to do his best Tyler Ulis impression. Throw in another ball dominant player in Fox with limited shooting range, and we had a recipe for stagnant half court offense. This game should have reinforced the role that Briscoe ought to be playing, a rich man's Hawkins. Be a defensive pest, move the ball, and take advantage of obvious scoring chances.

So if we're being honest, Briscoe isn't changing how he plays. Isn't happening.

If we're not scoring in transition (other teams have adjusted a bit), we pretty much can't have Fox/Briscoe/Monk out there together for extenddd stretches. Let Hawkins start and Briscoe be his destined NBA role--combo 6th man. Please.
