Re: GYER24-0

Isn't there a wodie book about Tark/Those teams, etc?

I need to read that. Pretty incredible what he put together out there, even if it was a little questionable...

@Spencer Hall I wrote about why Tom Crean is weird, and why people want to punch him.

"What is wrong with Tom Crean? That's a great question. That's what you say when someone asks a really good question, i.e. one you you do not have the answer for at all. You can start with this: Basketball coaches are categorically strange. They live indoors and rarely see the sun in a way that would bother even the most callous military officer. I'm saying that because I remember reading about soldiers on the Maginot Line during World War I, and how they would lie under lamps to simulate the sun their jobs stole from them. The French grow mushrooms in those buildings now. You could probably do the same in what we imagine to be Tom Crean's dark, horrifying office."

The Fascinating Weirdness of Tom Crean

They were absolutely point shaving. Zero doubt in my mind.

Spencer Hall is the best sportswriter out there. Hell, he's one of the best writers, period. It's depressing to read his stuff and know that you will never write anything that remotely approaches it.

You really think they wouldve beat Old Dominion with an effort similar to last night?
In my expert opinion - yes. Much like cawood though, I know I'm going out on a limb.

How is it 6 hours to fly from Louisville to Ft. Lauderdale? I'm guessing BBdK factored in layovers.

Re: GYER24-0

Tuned into morning sports talk here in the River City today on the drive in... had been awhile. Surprisingly, the myth that SEC teams treat Kentucky any differently than other *good* teams is just that, a myth. You see folks, Kentucky is just another SEC program, it just so happens that we have more *good* teams than others.

Cal's whole "Super Bowl" theory completely blown to pieces by Deener & Stillman!

Re: GYER24-0

For the past 10 years, my dad has left the morning after Christmas and rents a house in Key West through February but this was his last year due to buying a place in Ft Myers.

The place in Ft Myers is on the 20th floor with incredible views and just helped him get settled in. The downtown is very cool with 6-7 top notch restaurants plus a roof top bar - all within walking distance. He walks 5 miles a day and prefers the cool mornings there than the warm mornings in KW also.

Re: GYER24-0

If you are into boating/fishing, Key West is a great place to vacation. Otherwise, it is lacking due to lack of beach and typical beach-type resorts. Now, if you like drinking you can have a lot of fun on Duval St. But, most people get pretty tired of drinking all day/night after a couple of days. So, good place to go for a long weekend, but not for anything longer (unless you are going to fish).

I live in So Fla, but if I were coming in from out of town, I'd spend a few days at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami then rent a car to drive down to Key West. The drive is unique and the scenery is amazing.

Polar opposites if someone is looking for a beach/party location.

Lots of frustrated sports fans, IMO.

Maybe Urban Meyer's resurgence and the hiring of Harbaugh will help save lives?

Re: GYER24-0

* Love Key West. Mom/stepdad have a house in the Keys. Good news: free place to stay. Bad news: 22 miles from Key West.

* Despised Dean Smith. He was lauded for writing letters to death row inmates. He did not, however, write letters to the families of the victims who were murdered by those death row inmates. Sanctimonious POS. Perfect coach for that program.

* Just found out that Drew Deener was my (biological) little brother's (fraternity) little brother when they were KA's at Transy in the 90s. Apparently he was a huge UofL fan then, too. I'd always assumed he was a UK fan growing up, but no.

* This team looks a little run down, but have no doubt they'll get their 2nd wind in Nashville. Only real shot at a loss from here on out is in Athens.

Re: GYER24-0

Herald Leader had an article about Jon Scott several years ago. Might still able to find it.

Hope he has a plan to keep it going if he's no longer able to do it. Such a great resource.

Yup. He's fantastic. He's retweeted me twice (humble brag) and both times i got that notification it felt like the hand of God on my shoulder and soothing baritone voice saying, "I'm proud of you"

I hate to agree with Jay Williams, but don't sleep on Arky at Rupp.

If Ole Miss can take us to OT in Rupp, the Hogs could make a run at us.

For all those hardcore fans of theirs that don't show up to the games?

For the players that sleepwalk through every effing game that's not Kentucky and show no passion for the game even though they're more talented than pretty much everyone else again that's not Kentucky?

For Johnny Jones who can't seem to motivate jackshit from his guys unless they're playing Kentucky on ESPN Prime Time 7PM slot? NICE INBOUNDS PLAYS BTW, COACH. (Have fun w/ that shit, Blakeney/Simmons)

You got to have a soul first and 95% of the SEC just doesn't have one when it comes to hoops, so they can all get pumped.
Yeah your right I mistakenly was looking at it through my UK fan view. The only person outside of UK that has a basketball soul is Billy Donovan but not his Florida fan base.

Mortal Lock LSU drops their UT game this weekend. Its criminal.

RIP Tark

The first legit "players' coach". Tark wasn't trying to uphold any kind of image. Probably my favorite non-UK coach ever. The HBO special they did on Tark and UNLV from a few years ago was fantastic. Highest possible marks from me.
Late 80's, I remember an interview where Tark was asked about the NCAA troubles UK was facing: "The NCAA is so pissed off at Kentucky, they just gave Cleveland State two more years probation."

RIP, Shark..

Re: GYER24-0

Tark never said that thing about Kentucky and Cleveland State. It was manufactured by John Feinstein. I'm pretty certain of this.

Tark loved UK. Tark wanted to make UNLV the Kentucky of the west, which...yeah, I guess he did.

Mark Story wrote about him in 09, if that's the one you are talking about. But I'm too cheap of a bastard to pay whatever they charge (couple of bucks, prolly) to download it from the archives.

Meh, he's actually a pretty cool/good dude. Ego for sure, but he's okay by me these days. Plus, he loves GAMBOL. Of course, meeting somebody in real life often does that...

GregNJ, though?

Either way, watching Harris, Greg, ADAMG2BLOG, and CMD77 have their Twitter orgy every evening is pretty damn nauseating, for sure.

Arkansas is probably the best team we'll face from here on out, and should still be ranked at the time. Will be the only ranked SEC team we play, so we should be fired up, unlike against Ole Miss.

And those 2 teams are about equal, per KenPom (Arky is #29, OM is #30). Ole Miss is better than people give them credit for.

Re: GYER24-0

-Seton Hall's a dumpster fire because Willard, IMO, was overmatched from the beginning. Jersey is producing great players every single year, there's no reason why they shouldn't be at least a bubble team every single year.

Danny Hurley, come on down. Rhode Island has prepared him for a step up, and he could do wonders at his alma mater. Imagine the recruiting pull that name has in that state. Perfect fit.

I asked Jerry Meyer on Twitter whether his "red flag" comment was about the player(Sina), the program, or both. I asked because it seems like there was a lot of drama with Sina before he ever stepped foot on campus. Meyer replied "PROGRAM", and the fact that he used all caps made me feel kinda

.

-No more daily infusions after today. Glad to get that PIC-line out. Made me nervous having that thing in there for the past three weeks.

-Favorite UNLV player of all time? Stacey Augmon in a walk. Jarvis Basnight a distant 2nd.

-So King Tut's closed? The title of "Lexington's best hummus" now up for grabs, I guess.

-That "Curtain of Distraction" stunt that the Arizona State student section pulls at each home game is outstanding.

Re: GYER24-0

Well, Whitehead was out for a bit.

He & Gibbs are a pretty nasty duo.

-Greg Anthony was one of my favorite players of all time in college. He was my guy on those squads, especially with the facemask.

Re: GYER24-0

Grandmama Johnson was the only one I liked at the time. I particularly couldn't stand Plastic Man. I came around on most of the others afterwards, but not Augmon. And didn't they have some honk who played? I didn't like him, either.
