That's one of the funniest UK things I've ever seen...I love that kid.

GYERO.. WHERE EVERYBODY IS WRONG, I'M RIGHT AND I SHOULD'VE BEEN A COACH OR I WOULDN'T BE THIS ANGRY AT LIFE.

Re: GYER24-0

The game reminded me of 2012 @ Mississippi State where we were completely dead in the water and somehow won. Not quite as desperate tonight, but we sure as hell have come up short in non-title years in tough road games. More often than not, really.

Add the flash of greatness there when we stretched it out to 13 and I like my team.

A defense that once prided itself on making life difficult inside the arc is now getting eviscerated in that area. Our last 5 opponents have shot over 50% on 2's. Luckily we have some games still left to fix this. I don't know if it will require the dreaded "Z-word," but we need to figure out how to properly handle screens and keep our bigs from getting too far away from the hoop so they can provide help defense.

We were bound to have some tough games throughout the course of the SEC season. Nobody is great every single game. Impaling USC this weekend would go a long way towards letting us forget about a rather underwhelming 4 game stretch.
I'm no college basketball, but it seems like we're not collapsing as quickly on the ball to help stop some of the easy kick-outs to the outside. This, of course, leading to some *easier* interior buckets.

Primary reason I'm ready for a L. It's intensity. We clamp down the last 10 of the 1st and then the last 3 minutes and it's just enough.

@ Cawood. Great call on Towns. Way out in front on that one.

I will say, it's pretty comforting knowing he's going to be our best player very soon. Assuming Cal doesn't kill him for photobombing the interview while he was currently talking about how immature KAT was.
roll.r191677.gif
He'll pay for that one but I sure appreciate it.

Re: GYER24-0

Thoughts:

- Always crazy down on the Bayou during Mardi Gras. I mean- we were cruising...and then freaking Towns hangs on the rim for no reason, making it impossible for WCS to follow it up and then getting a T that, of course, ended with them hitting a 3. All of the sudden we're on the business end of a run we haven't seen yet this season. How did we let them go on a 21-2? And then how the hell did we win?

- Definitely a troubling trend on D. Of course, Florida and LSU are very talented underachieving teams who you knew would play their best...and they did. I think a lot is the grind. Defense is so mental and it's just so difficult to keep the discipline and concentration for so long so many games during the dog days of conference season. I mean- look at WCS. That's the main part. Dude pulled a Boogie Cousins on a couple of plays during LSU's run. Just sat the play out. LSU also got a ton in transition it seemed. At least our shotblocking was back.

- Booker's cooled off from 3 and when Aaron doesn't show up, that's no bueno.

- No reason a team with those two stud forwards should be anything lower than a 5-seed. Ridiculous.

Re: GYER24-0

Really feel like Anth is missing the boat on the whole undefeated deal. Don't care about? Really? We're fighting for history. Embrace the chance at greatness.

While titles are all that truly matters, going 40-0 would be an historic accomplishment. Plus, there is no demonstrable evidence that this team would actually benefit from a loss moreso than a close win.

Rack. It's right there with winning a title for me now. Title comes first, always. But going undefeated matters. For the last 39 years, every year, there's been one team that stayed unbeaten longer than any other. And every season, whenever people discuss that team, the 1976 Indiana team comes up. Most of the time, it's something like "What the 1976 Indiana team did will never happen again."

"Can Wichita State/Kentucky/St. Joseph's/Umass go undefeated?"

"No, no... nobody is ever going to do that again. That team was special. They were exceptional. That will never happen again."

For the next 40 years, I want to hear "What the 2015 Kentucky team did will never happen again." "No team will ever go 40-0 again." "Best team of the modern era." We would hear it every single season. That matters. Not quite as much as a title, but it's not small. It's huge.

To add to the point a little, it would be one more thing we would take away from IU and its fans...and that would also be glorious.

Re: GYER24-0

Cal could have ended that run with a TO but he was pissed. As soon as Karl hit that step back shot clock beater I thought we were going to find some way to win this. That has to be soul crushing for LSU.

Re: GYER24-0

By the way, is ANYONE surprised that the Little League team from freaking Chicago is under investigation for cheating by using players outside their geo?

I mean, it's Chicago, easily the most corrupt place in the entire United States. Damn what a shithole - of corruption/cheatassbitches. It's a perfectly nice town - besides all the cheating/corrupt/scandalous asses. It's like the people in power there are incapable or NOT being corrupt. I will NEVER do any real business with anyone in Chicago.

Honestly, that video-bomb or whatever you want to call it, is about the funniest thing i've ever seen. Cal is straight ripping him, and he's video bombing Cal while's he's doing it - and making that FACE.

Hilarious, and probably worthy of some extra suicides. Loved it. But kinda hope he has to run his balls off for it.

Re: GYER24-0

Might as well make it 3 in a row. It's only 10:30 here, and it can't be any worse than what Cawood was posting.

Anyone see the Sportscenter clip of Cal actually doing a karatechope/fist pump when Hornsby hit a 3? He was absolutely 100% rooting for LSU to win. Like, super animated about it - DURING the game. Of course, partiially being sarcastic for his team, but still. Is their a GIF of this yet? It was on the late edition of SC, and it was freaking hilarious.

Pretty sure between the Lyles tweets, Cal actually rooting for the other team, and Towns photobombing - this crew DNGAF about losing before the NCAAT. Would be shocked if we make it through the SECT undefeated. It's like they'd rather not have the pressure. Loss to UT might be in the works.

UK's best start in 71 Years Thoughts:

- I mean, my boy Bert Higganbotham wasn't even alive the last time we started 24-0
eek.r191677.gif
.

- I want undefeated, but I want the natty first and foremost. I think we're all in the same boat (no GYERO).

- OK, we've seen this team play dominant D for all but maybe five games this season. We've seen this team shooting about 45% from downtown for about a 10-game stretch. We have now seen Towns become a go-to interior scorer (and even Dakari taking steps in that direction). What we really haven't seen is the team put this all together. But it's still early February. We want to be peaking about a month from now. We have it all in our bag. We've shown it.

- Look, we need either Aaron or Booker to be on every game, preferably both, but we need one of them. Booker has cooled off and Aaron is his inconsistent self. They combine to go 1-7 from 3 last night, 1-10 against Georgia last week.

- People keep talking about pressure, but I'm sure not seeing it with these guys. I don't see us pressing at all. I mean, look at Karl- dude makes a bonehead play that lets LSU back in the game, we barely survive and he's clowning Cal postgame. These guys are loose as can be. In fact, they're almost too loose. We seem to get up big 2nd half every game, start cruising and let teams back in it. That's not a tight team. That's another flaw altogether.

- If we were beating the shit out of everyone, people would be puking anxious that we have no experience in tight games. These close ones are annoying, but we have shown time and time again, we know how to execute offensively in stressful situations. Likewise, we also know how to get stops when we need them. Bad shot or playcall or what, we defended LSU well on that last play, and really the entire crunchtime.

- Besides the wins and postgame GYERO, my favorite thing to do is visit The Phog and IC to see the blue balls.
laugh.r191677.gif
Kansas has an 8-page thread on every one of our games. Mark Hollandsworth starts a UK thread almost daily on IC. Apparently the team who beat those two by a combined 46 isn't that good. Haha. I love it.

Yep -- I head to IC postgame almost immediately...

Dude is obsessed. The funniest part are the reactions from his 'fellow' posters...they're basically like "Umm, okay. This is a UNC board." He basically gives a play by play each game of how we "should" have lost, and how it was a "gift"

Love it.

Re: GYER24-0

You knew they'd make a run after we got up 13 but that was ridiculous. Technical, made free throws, and then the 3... Bam. Lead cut to
8.

Our defense has regressed and is trending downward. Some of that has to do with playing arguably the league's 2 other best teams in UGA and LSU and of course a jacked up Florida on the road but still... Sharpen the pencil, fellas. Cal has started to harp on this that we need to get back to who we are defensively. Teams are really taking it to the tin against us & we are not defending the pick/roll as well. Have to believe a lot of it is focus. We held them scoreless the last 4:00 which is really impressive.

Conference play is such a long grind. The Kansas game was practically 3 months ago.

Despite our defense struggling the last 2 games we are super efficient on offense. KAT is showing everyone why GM's love his upside. Cousinseaque footwork in the post. That hook shot was $$$. He wanted it. Kid is a trip.

On to the next one.

Re: GYER24-0

Bricker has the best "shooter's roll" I've seen at UK. Ball bounces high and then seems to hit a dead spot on the rim and fall in.

He's kind of in a funk from 3 point land but he's getting better and scoring more off the bounce with the midrange. That hesitation stutter step blow by is a thing of beauty.

Re: GYER24-0

I remember Cal at Memphis in '08 hanging the nuts out there when it came to his team's biggest flaw - FT shooting. "We'll make them when they count," despite being the worst FT shooting good team in the history of basketball, and of course they didn't hit the free throws when they counted and it cost him a title and Memphis a banner, because the NCAA never messes with a champ.

Well, along those lines, that's kind of how I feel about our defense at the moment. We can't guard anybody right now. Like, at all. But if the game's on the line, I still have supreme confidence in our guys that they'll get a stop pretty much any time, because that's all they've done. LSU made one basket the last 7 minutes of that game. Some of their offensive woes were their own doing for going all LSU down the stretch, but most of it was we weren't going to let them get anything else. I'm sure a more efficient offensive team will have better clutch FG%, but again, best of luck to that team when that time comes.

Also, in defense of our guys, I went back and watched the game again, and LSU hit some awfully difficult shots in that one. Only team I've seen hit more low quality shots against us this year was Ole Miss

Man, eff Keith Hornsby and really anybody else with a jump shot that looks that wack and still goes in every now and then.

Man, eff that entire LSU team, though. 24 games with Martin and Mickey inside and they only have 17 wins. That's disgraceful. Do better. Care more when you play other teams. No respect for the program until this happens. Martin and Mickey are great. Quarterman and Hornsby are serviceable. That should be a top 15 team.

Re: GYER24-0

Wednesday 1/2 week sluggish from vacation wishing I was still there still undefeated photobomb rondo from the pondo's:

-I just love Key West. I'm not big on repeat vacation, especially in Florida, but man I love that place. Quaint, has tons of character, laid back as it gets, clean, fun, phenomenal foodie scene, beautiful. Has potential for my later years.

-The Ragnar there is just a blast. Great team but something about starting in Miami and ending at the beach is awesome. My 2nd leg was on the Southern Everglades Canal Trail... at 12a... before we had caught up with the bulk of the teams. So I'm basically running through the everglades next to a canal on a gravel trail in the pitch black for 8+ miles. Talk about creepy shit. I only saw about 5 other runners the whole time and a van would pass about every 10 minutes.

Ocean%20to%20Lake%20Trail%20076.jpg

-I completely understand what comes with a perfect season. I also don't really care about it. Sure, it would be awesome but #9 is my main concern and 39-1 is no different to me than 40-0 as long as that hardware is headed back to Lexington. Plus, like WCC was talking about with leads diminishing/ arrogance/stupidity/young bravado, I think this team would learn from a L. I'll take a Sunday loss in Nashville.

-
laugh.r191677.gif
@ the entire scene following the UL S16 game. It was a shit show of epic proportions. BBdk/SAE/Ice, I wasn't discriminating with who I threw my L Dags at, Wild Beaver had two prototypical Elle Raiser type Lass's on the bar acting about as trashy as you would expect a Thursday night Game at PJCS, fights on the sidewalk, ended the evening sharing my left over pizza w/ Joe Craft's fiancee and talking about the game while drinking wine out of a paper bag with Stoops.

-Still hoping for that Houston Regional.

Re: GYER24-0

Lamb also had a soft touch. Kid was super underrated as a college player. Nails from the baseline.

The Bruce Hornsby 3 was the classic white honk 3. Off balance, coming off the screen, leg kick, wrist flick. Need more of that in college basketball.

Vitale is absolutely right about Cauley-Stein. If he ever would "turn it on" for an entire game, he'd be unstoppable and put up massive numbers. But he's improved so much since he got to UK, it's hard to complain.

Aaron Harrison (refuse to call him just "Aaron") needs to put up double digits every game down the stretch. When he doesn't score much, it changes the complexion of the game. We perform best when he's in that 13 PPG range.

Re: GYER24-0

Also, the ending of that game last night totally mirrored Indiana. Booker on the FT line with a chance to push the lead to 3. Just like Lamb. Misses 1 of 2. 2 point lead. Hornsby's shot was even in the same spot as Watford's. LSU jinxed themselves with the timeout though. Just run it down the court and shoot...that sucker goes in.
