Vitale is absolutely right about Cauley-Stein. If he ever would "turn it on" for an entire game, he'd be unstoppable and put up massive numbers. But he's improved so much since he got to UK, it's hard to complain.

Aaron Harrison (refuse to call him just "Aaron") needs to put up double digits every game down the stretch. When he doesn't score much, it changes the complexion of the game. We perform best when he's in that 13 PPG range.
-We'll see plenty of LaChance the next 3.25 years. By then I'm sure e'll be sick of it.

-WCS is never going to go MKG/Davis hard for 40 minutes. Just not in his DNA but he's getting better about when to turn it on.

-100% agree. Talked about this earlier in the year but we struggled every game that #2 put up a ton of shots. He seems to be playing more within himself and picking those shots better. Just don't need him putting up 15+ a game.

-With the D it's mostly focus although some of it is the other teams picking at our limited weaknesses the only way they can. We're athletic, long and smart enough to adapt to the screens. Like everything else that's been thrown at us, it only works for a couple games until the guys adjust. D is also much different than FT shooting. We saw they can pretty much turn it on when they really need to. I had 100% confidence that LSU wasn't getting the look they wanted last night after we took the lead. They may have hit a crazy shot but they weren't getting a good look. They didn't even have the option to look for Mickey. Hell we shot clocked them in an end of game situation. The D is there, you just can't expect it to be running at 100% for the entire season.

Re: GYER24-0

Almost booked Key West several times, but can never get over the cost. Hotel Rooms are outrageous (for what you get)...and just don't have any interest in booking a motel/inn like Ursch keeps recommending for a tropical/beach style vacation.

$500-600 per night for a basic 350-400 square foot hotel room with a view? You can practically stay anywhere for that kind of money; Hell, we stay in 1000-2000sq ft suites all over the Caribbean for less than that...

Does seem like a blast with a group, though.

Turbo's parents have their yacht down there?

Re: GYER24-0

Anth - did you ever tour Truman's house down there in KW? I found it interesting as all get out.

Last time I was down there, I got so hammered at the Green Parrot, I stumbled out of there at around 2:00 in the afternoon, and got hit by the GD Conch Train. thank god it was a glancing blow...

Re: GYER24-0

Caribbean all inclusive recs? Lass and I did Punta Cana for our honeymoon 2 years ago. Really loved how non commercial it was and the beaches were unreal.

Looking to do a 5 day vacation in June.

Re: GYER24-0

Of course, Forde's Mount Rushmore of Coaches leaves out Rupp and puts Smith on there. What a joke. Rupp built the #1 program of all-time from scratch and doubles Smith up on titles.

^Nah, honestly my sightseeing has been limited. Think we may go back later this year and obviously again next year for the Ragnar so I hope to do a little more then.

Those trains are crazy.

It is pretty pricey and that drive from Miami is brutal. I think that's what keeps it so damn nice. I bet AirBNB has some good options. Tons of small houses and condos on the island.

Re: GYER24-0

It's almost criminal how often Rupp is left out/underappreciated in those types of talks.

Sucks Calhoun bumped him off the 'Top 5' lists/graphics that are always shown, by 1 win. For the longest time, that at least kept him in the conversation.

Can't put a racist on Mt. Rushmore...well, except for Thomas Jefferson.

Re: GYER24-0

Rupp basically invented the fast break - the most beautiful thing about basketball. Smith invented the Four Corner "offense," which bastardized the game so much that the shot clock had to be implemented. THE END.

Re: GYER24-0

-Hit Key West my junior year for spring break (Lauderdale all other 3). Key West days were fine, mostly just hung by the pool and drank. The nights, however, were

. Awesome time. Need to get back there again soon.

-I have zero recollection of the ice angels with BBdK. I mean, the lights didn't really come back on until we were in that obscure little night club bopping around to old school hip hop. Then the 3rd (and final) fight with some recent Michigan grads. Those kids were the biggest dbags of the weekend. Smug, arrogant, condescending... basically the same IU indignation for Kentucky.

Man, f*** the Big Ten.

Re: GYER24-0

The Waldorf Astoria is $269/night for the days I just searched in July. That hotel seems pretty nice.

Re: GYER24-0

Rupp was the absolute master of fast break basketball. Red fng Auerbach would bring The Baron to Boston or visit Lexington to pick Rupp's brain on the fast break.

Re: GYER24-0

Sounds like Jerry Tarkanian doesn't have much left either, which will actually make me pretty sad when he dies. Given the current environment of the NCAA, Tarkanian was 20-30 years ahead of his time. The first legit "players' coach". Tark wasn't trying to uphold any kind of image. Probably my favorite non-UK coach ever. The HBO special they did on Tark and UNLV from a few years ago was fantastic. Highest possible marks from me.

Hotel Looks dope...but that's for a standard twin beds overlooking the parking garage.

Ocean/Pool view, STANDARD room w/ balcony = $2984, for the week - just for the hotel. Flights, booze, food, shuttles, taxis = 5-6K. That's crazy, for Florida.

Re: GYER24-0

Real Talk: I was a late arriver (relatively speaking) to the world of CBB. The first team I loved wasn't UK (my dad didn't really become a huge UK fan until after I did) - it was UNLV. And it was everything about them. The "shark" angle, the name, the attitude, the "Amoeba defense," Tark. I stayed up late to watch them on Big Monday whenever I could. Obviously, I'm 24000STRONGALLINCAYUTS now, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Rebels. Tark won't get nearly the love that Dean Smith did, but I think he understood the realities of college athletics - and college athletes - way before anyone else did.

Re: GYER24-0

Ha. Lord knows you don't want to be stuck at the Waldorf looking at the parking lot for 5 straight days.

Price skyrockets to $289 for a king bed. But that's if you can stomach looking at their pathetic courtyard for a week. And who can bear that?

Would be down for a 4 day trip if SW would open back up their service into EYW tho. Can't quite figure out their flight schedules these days...options from Louisville are getting less & less, which sucks. Trying to get as much use out of this Companion Pass as possible before it expires 12/31 -- feel like we're wasting it if we fly w/ anyone else.

Furthermore:

-SDF ---> Fort Lauderdale = 6:05 Flight Duration.

-Shuttle from Fort Lauderdale to Key West = FOUR (4) HOURS

-Add another 2 hours for early airport arrival, baggage claim, hotel check in, etc.

= 12 Hour travel day each way, from Louisville. Even ignoring the cost ----> If you can't see why that isn't very desirable compared to other options for us at the moment, not sure what to tell you.

Re: GYER24-0

Jon Scott BRINGING IT...

FHAZCat,

You might want to check that. Maryland's Billy Jones played three seasons of varsity, starting with the 1965-66 season. The following season (1966-67) Duke had C.B. Claiborne on the varsity, who also played three seasons although he was not a high profile player and I don't believe he ever received a scholarship from Duke.

The following season (1967-68) UNC had Charlie Scott and Wake had Norwood Toddmann, with each playing three seasons as well.

Charlie Scott was the first black superstar in the ACC, which I think is part of the reason a lot of people mistakenly believe that he was the first black player in the league. (that and because a lot of UNC supporters try to push that idea, even though it's a fallacy.)

Re: GYER24-0

Has anyone ever seen/met 'Jon Scott'.

Part of me has always wondered if that's just a fake name or front for a secret collective of UK Illuminati who devote their life to UK statistics, history, and defending BBN's honor.

Could see Century Cat being a part of this group.

For Johnny Jones who can't seem to motivate jackshit from his guys unless they're playing Kentucky on ESPN Prime Time 7PM slot? NICE INBOUNDS PLAYS BTW, COACH. (Have fun w/ that shit, Blakeney/Simmons)

You got to have a soul first and 95% of the SEC just doesn't have one when it comes to hoops, so they can all get pumped.

Re: GYER24-0

Key west is a fun town, no doubt. But it pretty much has NO beach. So if that's your thing, might wanna consider something else.

Last time I was there was in a July, man that place gets hot.

Re: GYER24-0

When I was young the SEC KILLED me when I filled out NCAA tournament brackets. I'd pretty much just keep up with UK so my knowledge would be limited to how they looked when they played the 'Cats.

Now, I just expect any SEC teams to ish the bed and pick accordingly. The fact that only a couple other than UK get in also helps.

Re: GYER24-0

The reason UK's defense is not doing so well is because everyone has plenty of film to watch now. Teams are basically spreading our defense out, taking our bigs away from the rim, setting picks, and using their guards to get to the basket. Only way to keep our bigs around the rim more is by using zone and Cal is not going to do it plus seems everyone plays their best games against us so they would probably go off from three hence making our zone useless. Very frustrating to see all of these teams play their A+ games against us. However, KY always finds a way to win. Very good sign moving forward.

Re: GYER24-0

Gray
Blakeney
Quarterman
Hornsby
Martin
Mickey
Simmons.

eek.r191677.gif
It won't happen, bc the SEC is never able to realize its potential...but I'm not sure how anyone could touch that up. I'm sure Mickey will bounce, Martin will go undrafted, and Quarterman will transfer. (or some shit like that)

That would be a Top 3 talent roster in the nation, easy.

Re: GYER24-0

If LSU gave the effort like last night in every game that could have been their first loss of the season. Second at worst.

I don't think there was a kid our age who didn't love the Runnin' Rebs at least a little bit. So much swag.

Re: GYER24-0

No question, getting to Key West sucks. And trust me that flight situation ain't that great either. We got there before the place even opened, then walked across the Tarmac in the rain to our prop plane, and had 2 layovers on the way home. Unwodie.

But fly to Lauderdale for free + shuttle is easy for us. One of the few benefits of being a died in the wool lifelong Cajun

Re: GYER24-0

I remember once when the Rebels played the Soviet National Team - back when that meant something - and absolutely prison-raped them. USA USA USA

If I'm not mistaken, the guy is from Philly and has never even been to the state of Kentucky, let alone Rupp. Think his dad was from here.

I could be entirely off, but I thought that was the story.

Re: GYER24-0

Definitely jelly of your guys access to places down there...much different up here. Also, our points is 22-26K per person to Ft. Lauderdale, where you get it for what, 4,500?

Never talked to *anyone* who didn't love Key West, that's not the issue -- just a difficult trip from Louisville (at the moment). Hopefully that changes again soon.

If that was a UK roster under Cal, they'd be ranked preseason #1. Under Jones, they'll probably be ranked 15th, and then proceed to finish the season unranked and a 10 seed.

That doesn't even seem possible for a fan of that caliber to never have been to Kentucky.

You really think they wouldve beat Old Dominion with an effort similar to last night?

Re: GYER24-0

Round trip was about $150, or 9000 points. Plus companion pass. Sometimes SW just loves one particular route/time, and you gotta jump on it while it's hot.

First half

Just 60-41. Yawn.

Those guys were bad enough dudes to rescue the president. I can't explain that Duke game other than point shaving. That's the only thing it could have been.
