Goodwin Enters Transfer Portal

Yes and I'm not sure the kid has the "want to" to put in the level of work he needs to to be good at this level.
That may be true. But without knowing the back story about Goodwin and Young, it might look bad to young players who consider becoming part of the BBW. The Oline has struggled this year, and Yenser will be blamed for that. It does not help. Challenge for Coen to address.

Yenser and Scangerello/Stoops gave the kid every reason to leave by not playing him some amount of snaps at LT against good competition.

This would allow the coaches to actually grade KG on real game action, and would have allowed KG the opportunity to know first hand what he needed to work on to be able to play LT against SEC competition.

God knows we struggled at LT most of the year. No reason KG could not have gotten a few snaps.
How many times did he get blown up on XP kicks?

Maybe the coaches knew Levis might get killed with him in there.

Kid still has a long ways to go. Maybe UL will be a good spot for him. His guardian can get paid again and he can keep a close eye on him.
Showed up out of shape (which I thought was Vaughn’s professional job at this point as a trainer)and never really made any strides physically. Got blown up on FG special teams.

Kids been to multiple HS and middle schools and now 2 colleges. His physical potential was to much to pass up and not recruit. At least he didnt waste anymore of our time or resources here. Good luck to him but Chris Vaughn/UL and their media can pound sand.

Also just a reminder, some people put their name in the portal to test the water and decide to stay. I'm good with however this goes but...

Coach Stoops saw him struggle EVERY DAY after in practice against our defense. From what I’ve heard the kid would have gotten embarrassed against opposing defenses.

Long term effects the depth, OL must be a focus of the next recruiting cycle and portal.
UK had clearly moved on from him at least for next year so I'm not saying he would never play but he prob would have changed positions or sat around at least another year before he got PT at LT.

I’m fine with getting our linemen from the portal anyway. We know what we are getting then.

You would think so

Sounds like our entire OLine.
Some who played almost every snap were embarrassed multiple times in practically every game.

I suspect practice probably not a good guage of OL ability to play in a real game.

Defense couldn't hit the QB ( for good reason), and defense rarely blitzed in a game. I am pretty sure they didn't blitz in practice, at least against the 1's.

And the DLine stunts that gave our O line fits all year, I did not see us run a single stunt on defense that I can remember. Maybe a delayed blitz ot two, but not many.

Which would make Godwin’s shortcomings in practice even MORE troubling, against a vanilla 2nd team defense.

I hate that he’s leaving, but if he wasn’t t willing to put in the time and effort needed to play at the SEC level, I trust the staff to see that.

Im not going to sit here and act like I didnt want him, but if we are being honest there were a lot of redflags with Goodwin from the beginning. From the switching of high schools eventually ending up in Southern Indiana, to the commitment drama, and showing up out of shape. Im sure he will end of at UofL but for a variety of reasons the best thing for him is to get as far away as possible.

I was speaking of his UK career, clueless!
I knew you were and Doug did end up with a pretty good college career but did struggle in the beginning some before getting started. I went to school and remember this. He was huge guy and fit. But that was natural and part of the perception that he was struggling was due to over the top expectations for him much like Goodwin. Wiliams was considered THE #1 OT in the class and folks expect a lot immediately and that's just not realistic of lineman.

If he was a 3 star things won’t different but lots of 5 or high 4 star players have been transferring across the country if they are down depth charts. If he did stay my guess would be he’s a reserve next year maybe starts as a JR and is solid and then goes in the draft so you’re losing maybe 1 year. Hate to see him go because he could develop into a stud but where he ends up will tell how big a loss it is. If it’s Alabama or a team sniffing the playoff every year that’s one thing. But if it’s a power 5 bottom dweller like I expect then no big loss most likely. Could be a financial decision I heard the kid isn’t the most fortunate so can’t blame him for that.

No doubt our Oline has cost us. It is amazing that Goodwin could not get some snaps, but almost the entire Oline was fubar this year. I think there is still a small chance Yenser could be gone before the spring. Reading what Liam Coen has said in LA, he is still focused on the Rams and finishing out there the right way. He has probably talked on the phone with Stoops about recruiting a Qback out of the portal. But Boulware must have been hired without input from Coen. Boulware has a connection with Bob Stoops though OU, and that was his path to Mark. I doubt Coen has had time to consider what to do about the Oline, but he will have to. Once the Oline comes into focus for him, he has a decision to make. All signs indicate Coen was onboard for Yenser before Coen left for LA. But that was a year ago, and Yenser has a track record in Lexington now. Maybe Coen stays, or maybe a change gets made after the bowl. I could see either.

Mentioned elsewhere from the film I saw from the get-go he looked like a RT, didn't think he moved his feet well enough to be a LT. Thing is however, the guy is getting extremely poor advice from somebody. Odds are 2 years from now he's working at McDonald's and weights over 400 pounds. He may fall into the "best who never was" category.

Next time you see this guy he will be asking if you want fries 🍟 with that. All the size and strength in the world ain’t worth two cents if you have no heart. Quitter.

You have zero clue how he preformed in practice. Do you honestly think if he could have helped the team they wouldn’t have played him. He wasn’t ready.

You're right, Boulware has a connection to Bob Stoops but he also was on Mike Stoops staff at Arizona in the early-mid 2000s as was Mark so they go back a few years.

Our Oline was the worst it’s been in a looong time and he couldn’t get significant snaps.

Rumors are he wasn’t in game shape and lazy.

Wish the best for the kid, he is young and can easily turn it around. Just hope he isn’t a Matt Elam 2.0

I was just thinking. Suppose Goodwin had picked Michigan State a year ago. He almost did. If so, maybe he would be trying to transfer to Kentucky now. So maybe it is better this way. Life can be strange sometimes.

If the Aspirations/UK relationship is coming toward an end, it sucks but isn’t crushing. I wonder if Stephon Herron’s transfer location will give us another clue about that

He was a project from the get go, just a huge kid that wasn't real athletic. The Young kid was a big kid that was athletic, wrestled at a high level and had very good feet. Goodwin just looked like an interior OL. May e staff told him that and he wasn't happy, but likely someone e in his ear told him he could start, or should have been starting.

Hate to see him go as we have crap at tackle behind cox and flax is a dud to me. If Buford isn’t a tackle…Wohlbaugh sure as hell ain’t one. Why Yenser played all of these guys ahead of Buford makes me wonder if Yenser can see potential and get it done

You have to trust the staff but Yenser still was the worst coach on staff and I’m not sold he’s a guy to keep. Scangerello and settle were not as bad as him

But if Coen believes in Yenser I guess I’m willing to hold my nose and give it another year But to me the biggest risk isn’t Goodwin either way …it’s Yenser screw up another season with his awful performance

I've faith in Coen. He knows what he sees on tape. If Yenser sticks around it is because Coen diagnoses our O line problems due to (1)player talent (or lack of) and (2)offensive coordinator.

It’s doesn’t matter where he goes, he’s gonna have to get in shape! He came in 40-50 pounds over weight! The trenches in the SEC are for grown men. Rarely does a freshman make a difference. Especially one that’s out of shape. Our good lines have had redshirt Juniors and Seniors.
