GOLF thread

We play Kearney...The Bull...Houston Oaks and UClub regularly and are typically in the 4 hour range...give or take 15 minutes depending on time of day. Pace of play has improved the past year or so, imo. "Public" has zero to do with it, and times are readily available if you schedule properly.

Given that Central Ky has the best collection of munis in the state, I have no desire to be held down to one course, especially when the ones I named are better than any private course in Lex, outside of maybe Lex CC.

Being "private" does not make the course better in any fashion. I'll take great layout and good conditions over average layout and excellent conditions.

I would like to present LPGA golfer Hailey Ostrom....

Do private courses now hold tee times? In my youth, you showed up, when you're group was there you teed off.

3.5-4 hours doesn't seem so special.

Gotta agree on the offerings in CKY.

Up to 22 different courses played this year. Goal is 25 which should be attained by mid September. May try to stretch to 30.

Don’t hate him but not a big fan of Kisner. I think his act is a bit, fakish. JMO.
Know some folks who know him well and say he is every bit the same guy off camera as he is on it. Rubs some people the wrong way but overall is a laid back/cool guy.

Chesson Hadley, ace on 16, birdie on 17, sitting on 126 in Fed Ex Cup standings
Justin Rose 3 putts 18 to drop to 126 and Hadley keeps his card moving up to 125.
Roger Sloan with a second for huge jump from 130's to 90's to get card.
Some great stuff yesterday.

Homegrown boy Josh Teater lost his card yesterday and will need to finish in the top 25 over these last 3 Korn Ferry tournaments to get it back.

Posted before but here is current PGA pension rules
$4500 per cut, additional $4500 for every cut over 15 in year
Must have 15 minimum starts in year for cuts to count, 50% vested at 75 cuts made, 100% at 150 cuts
Money goes into deferred account, can't take until 45 or 50
Most Fed Ex money is deferred except Top 10 I believe, #125 got around $100k last year, even 126-150 got $70k

LOL, on the PGA Tour every shot makes someone happy!

Needless to say, the margin for error on the PGA Tour is razor thin.

Here is another example from the Wyndham. Brian Stuard played well at the Barbasol and I noticed he was also playing well this week. However, on the 2nd hole on Saturday, he made a quadruple bogey 8. Had he parred that one hole on Saturday, he wins the tournament by one shot, instead of T15 or whatever he finished, and cost himself $1M, two year exemption, Masters invite, etc.

Sucks, but it is what it is on the PGA.

Thinking about getting my 11yo son golf lessons. Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with coaches in the louisville area? I dont play but he loves it, so other than watching youtube videos there's not a lot I can tell him.

Tin Cup came out 25 years ago today. What are your top 5 golf movies.

1. Caddyshack
2. Tin Cup
3. The Greatest Game Ever Played
4. The Legend of Bagger Vance
5. Seven Days in Utopia.

yeah I left our Happy.

Mickelson is live tweeting a match between him/Joel Dahman and Harry Higgs/Keith Mitchell at Liberty national. Should be pretty good to follow along.

Was talking with some golf buddies about all the courses in Central Ky that have closed in the past few years; Andover, Spring Valley, Lone Oak, Old Silo, and Cabin Brook come to mind.

I am trying to think of the last new course to open in Central Ky - Was it Houston Oaks in 1996 in Paris? Olde Stone is outside of Bowling Green, and it opened in 2006. Are there any new courses even in the planning stage?

Seems like most of the existing courses are full with waiting lists, is now a time to look at building again?

Old Silo was a sad close. That was a nice track.

Agree, hard as hell, but a real challenge and scenic. I think it was too tough of a course in too small of a community to make it work. Had it been in Louisville or Cincy, it might have done well.

There just wasn’t any reason to have THAT many bunkers. It was insane… as well as the cost to maintain all of those bunkers.
