Serious question because maybe I misunderstand the rule: if a team punts the ball out of bounds in the air, is that not a penalty? Or automatic placement at the X yard line? I was surprised that the GA punt was placed at the 10.

That's only for kickoffs.

It would seem to me like a talented punter should be able to kick deep and OB more often than not. And I flatly don’t put any faith in a refs ability to accurately call where a punt goes OB.

I do too but he honestly looks out of his element or like he has the mental yips at best.

I paused the game before the FG. I asked my friend, "Is he gonna miss, or is the snap gonna be botched?" He picked the former, I picked the ladder. After the kick, we laughed at each other and said, "Why not both?" Not even lying that this happened.

You know it's going to be one of three things happen if it is an important kick.
1. Bad snap.
2. Fumble the snap.
3. Miss the kick.
Or, on rare occasions, all three happen on the same play.

We don't need no dam Special Teams coach.

Ona punt it is placed where it went out of bounds. On a kickoff if it goes out of bounds I think it is spotted at the 25 and then it goes out to the thirty on the penalty.

I didn't know of the rule that if receiver is stopped before moving forward & is knocked OOB & not a 1D, that the clock runs. Certainly was stopped inbounds. Interesting.
