I like this idea. He is the third coach to do this. In the future I would be OK for any coach who does not reach 6 wins to have half of his salary taken away and given to the university to spread among the athletes.

Any team is taking a risk giving a coach 9 million or more a year with no conditions for performance. If you can't win half of your games, cut the salary by one half. Kudos to Coach Norvlle for doing this and the university too.

They should just lower the base salaries and only pay 8 to 9 million if you win a certain amount of games.

Remember Harbaugh restructured his contract for not delivering at a high enough level. Then went on to win it all.

Maybe Stoops should give some of his 9.1 million back instead of telling fans to "pony up". He should put his money where his mouth is!

I know LSU Brian Kelly is doing a $1 million match to their collective and Oklahoma States coach restructured his contract to send money back to the school.

I think Stoops could appease the fan base by agreeing to give back a portion of his $9M annual salary.

I think it's awesome especially as a fan. It shows he's willing to sacrifice his own crap in order to win which if he wins, he gets the money back in incentives anyway.

But Mike knows if he has a shit year this season, he's gone. They will fire him as they should. Two good seasons is not going to fly.

He isn’t the first coach to agree to such an arrangement. I’m not sure Barnhart is the type to approach Stoops with a similar offer.

I have an interesting dream scenario offer for Stoops: $1 mil per victory. No more, no less. You’ll get what you earn.

That is sound reasoning. FSU can take that $4.5 and hit the portal. If it pays off Norvell wins and the university wins. And most important, the fans win.

I think Bobby Knight declined his entire pay for one season when he felt like he didn’t deliver. Could be wrong but I think I heard that.

Sweet! A bonus reason for players to tank a season! Lol.

Seriously, it's his money to do with as he sees fit. Surprised this hasn't been done more

I’m pretty sure Stoops is on the record saying he would contribute some of his salary if he could. Not expecting him to actually follow through with that though but I’m pretty confident he said that when he was complaining once again.

Money motivates people. Most of us should be paid based on performance. In this case, not only head football coaches but players that have huge NIL deals and quit on their teams.

Yeah I would love to try and hire someone with a (for example) $750k/win salary and bonuses for bowl tiers/playoffs, final SEC standings, probably something for academic standing. Make it where they’re the highest paid coach in the country in a year where they make the playoffs, that’s well deserved if you’re coaching at UK. Pay them $20m if they win the whole thing, why not.
