For all the talk about Skal being overrated, how about Kennard?

1/3 of the season is over. In 5 or 6 games half the season is over.
It's a young season but it's not new. Don't really understand why people keep saying this. I want Skal to succeed too but pretending it's the second game of the year isn't going to help.
Now kennard? You're right on. He's got 3 years left to become a great shooter.
It's still too early to make any solid judgements on this freshman class but one thing is clear. Skal and Ben Simmons were numbers one and two in most rankings and Ben has left Skal in the dust. I believe Skal will get it going at some point but Ben Simmons is clearly on a whole notha level. Pretty surprising giving their performances in the Hoop Summit game. Skal, Murray and Simmons stood out from the rest and appeared to be fairly equal prospects. I never bought the Diallo hype. Dude just got a ton of garbage baskets and runouts in the all-star games. That won't translate to this or the next level.
I thank alot of you are being to hard on these guys, its still early in the season sometimes it take awhile to get adjusted. Skal came out of Hati where there is not alot of BB he has the skills may be at UK for another yr..
Again, not comparing the players. Just that almost all freshman struggle with something, even Cal's best players have. This thread was in response to a lot of posts I have been seeing that basically were trying to make the case that Skal is a miss for Cal. A dud in other words. Far too early to say that.
The thing is if LUke isnt hitting shots, what else does he bring? Matthews may never be a great shooter but he will be a better, driver,finisher rebounder and defender, hands down.
I'm seeing a tremendous amount of "shell shock". These young men have not faced on a consistent basis the speed, strength and agility that we are seeing in our opponents, even the so-called cupcakes. Much of the fall portion of the schedule is a time of becoming acclimated to this new level of competition. Factor in that UK does not have a core group of players who actually played much together in real games increases the difficulty by needing to adjust to the playing styles of teammates they've never really played in concert with. As a retired college professor/coach, I'm accustomed to witnessing the tremendous growth in students/athletes between first and second semesters. Maturity will come but in differing amounts and at different rates for all our players but especially for the frosh. Late January early February is probably more appropriate to seriously expect high performance levels for individuals and this team.
As for Kennard/Duke these same concerns are also appropriate.

Kid had a hell of a game today. And Grayson Allen showed again that he isn't near the player the press makes him out to be.

You must not have heard that Allen is sick as hell today with the flu. Said he felt so bad that even during warmups it was debatable whether or not he would play. Guess they should have held him out. Kid is a stud. You simply want to downplay him and minimize how good he has been because he is on Duke. And against UK he was being foolish continuously trying to drive the middle and into the trees. But yeah, he is good.
Allen IS good.
But it amazes me how teams continue to let him drive to the right. You have a couple million dollars worth of coaches over on the bench. Earn it.

If seems like shooters struggle when they come to UK is more accurate. It doesn't appear to be so much so with other schools.
I didn't know that because I didn't watch the game.
And Allen is good but not as good as many of the talking heads make him out to be. See, it's possible for a kid to be a very good player while also not being the greatest thing since sliced bread.
More "Jilted Lover" talk from UK fans. Kennard will be a great shooter in college. He will be 35-40 from the 3pt line by the end of the year. He also has more court awareness and savvy than most. I doubt he's at Duke 4 years. UK would have been thrilled with him. He's a better shooter than anyone on this year's UK team can even dream of becoming. Don't let your personal feelings get in the way!
