Imagine not wanting a coach that won a championship at freakin baylor. from 1950-2003 when they hired Drew they made ONE tournament. ONE. Thats worse than vandy.
His floor is pretty high. I don't think we'll ever be lousy under him.

I'm just not convinced his ceiling is all that high though.

Yeah, he had a great run to the title at Baylor. That was an amazing accomplishment, but outside of that, his teams have had pretty pedestrian postseason performances.

That's ultimately what caused the fans to turn on Cal.

I would imagine this is a done deal. Mitch wants it done and likes Drew. He probably gauged some others reactions. I will be excited to see what he can do. Hurley is the hot ticket but did people think he would really leave UConn his dream job after winning a second championship.

Probably got mixed reactions from Donovan but can't afford to wait and drag this out as it could be a very bad look especially if The Bulls turn it around and he waffles again. Bird in hand

I'm on board with this. I think he'll do great here. He can bring some players with him, meet with the current UK players soon and maybe steal a recruit or two from Cal.

Sounds like the boosters like him too and are guaranteeing big NIL money. NIL was a disaster under Cal and his staff. It'll be nice to have some coaches that actually gameplan, make in-game adjustments and can navigate the NIL world.

Did anyone think Pitino's ceiling was as high as it was? He had one final four at providence. No evidence he was going to go on one of the greatest runs in kentucky history

Same for Tubby. No final fours. he coached at Tulsa. Nothing said he would win a title or come close to multiple final fours

Same for Hall. He had no head coaching experience

Calipari was the only successful hire that people thought was a home run when he was hired and only because of his recruiting

Drew has a higher ceiling than everyone except Cal and he probably is at the same level as Cal in terms of expected ceiling at hiring

True. Good assessment. I'd just add that there's a big difference, and longer shelf life for Drew, is; 1) the product being sold, and 2) the personality. The two programs will be night and day difference. A Scott Drew program being mediocre is much more palatable than Cal's player first mediocre program.

that's fine, but if it comes out we never even waited for Hurley to respond to a 11 million a year offer, Mitch needs to be fired.
