Ferentz Iowa

Wow, I can’t believe a team like Penn St. would want Stoops as their HC. Is this April 1st? They can have him and I will contact Penny Hardaway about using his moving company to move him up north.

I think you guys hopes of Iowa getting Stoops are looking worse with every loss this year. I won't be surprised if Stoops retires before Ferentz

Why are people assuming Stoops is their guy?

They’re a perennial top 20ish program who can pretty much name their coach.

Why wouldn’t they go after Summeral or any of the other top names?!

.500 no offense Stoops ball isnt going to cut it in the other P2 either…forget all the big boys you got IU hanging 40-50 a pop…they’re gonna call punt n field goal crew who can’t even keep up with Vandy?!

Yes. Their fans have openly clamored for him, even during this struggling KY season.

Their fans know football better, so it makes sense. Better football pedigree as a program. 13 conference titles. Ranked #1 about 15 times over the years. He'd have no problems recruiting great lines on both sides of the ball. Huge recruiting base in an area where football is king... More fan support for Hawkeye football than UK.

If they wanted him and he could keep his staff intact, it's a step up from UK Football, no question. That should tell us more about OUR program than we're ready to hear, but UK fans aren't going to listen anyway.

Can we do better than Stoops? There's an outside chance, more of a longshot maybe, but sure. Is it likely we will do better than we have with him and his staff? No. The odds are solidly against that happening if we run Stoops out of here. We have to pay an inordinate amount more than other programs just to get and keep a good coach, because we have little in the way of football history, but this fan base never fully gets behind a coaching staff. Haven't in 30 years.

The staff has to work against their own fan base to get things done, and that's a btch.

In the end you get what you earn. We've gotten back out of Stoops & Co more than we've put into them. Numbers prove that. New facilities
A ton of bowl games and bowl wins. Upsets
Ending of streaks. Starting of good ones. And respect. Something we didn't have for most of 50 years, we have now with this staff and recruits.

I don't know how long it will take to rebuild that once Stoops leaves, but it is what it is. If UK Football winds up in the shitter, it will be earned. That's what happens when you never treat what you got like you want it, because you were too frail to commit and grow through the tough times. It's clear the support isn't there to win an SEC football title like it is at 12 other schools.

Because Stoops plays exactly the way they want to, can recruit better and has proven he can win at a non football school like Kentucky. Its been pretty much common knowledge for several years now that when Ferentz hangs it up Stoops is the first call.

If they haven't talked already

Stoops has done a really good job here, but we aren’t making a bowl game this year and probably not next year either.
He has said himself that he wants the fans to raise expectations of the program and it seems that things have stalled out.
He tried to leave last year. He asked the fans to pony up and they have with money and showing up at Commonwealth Stadium.

Seems to me expectations have been raised, wanting to run off the winningest coach in program history is hardly showing the program's stalled but that you're expecting better and wanting more. Who's hired will be a clue from the people with the fuzzy balls. Jon Sumrall's the guy who can move the program forward.

My reply to that is this. How long did it take Coach Brooks to turn UK around? What kind of roster did we have when he came in? What kind of facilities did we have when he came in? I think most people need to forget the past at UK - and look at the now and the future. It will always be tough - we play in what was the best league in college football. Now we play in the absolute toughest league without a doubt!

... and in this conference, ponying up takes time, if indeed they truly have ponied up TO SEC levels. We might not make a bowl this year, though the season isn't over. We WILL make a bowl next year if we are able to hold on to our most recent classes of recruits and continue developing the players already on campus and in the 2 deep.

Missing a bowl game for the first time in 9 years isn't a death knell, but a setback. It's a loser's mentality to think otherwise. Maybe UK Football has created an incurable disease in the fanbase and there's no hope for it. Or maybe it's been too spoiled by perpetual bowl appearances since 2016

"How long did it take Coach Brooks to turn UK around while everyone was calling him a bad hire and for him to be fired from day one because he wasnt a big name?"

Better question, and the point of the post you quoted- How would he have done if the entire fanbase and the boosters weren't working against him?

"What kind of facilities did we have when he (Brooks) came in?"

The same as we had when he left, which is just one reason why he left. He built the foundation for Stoops in spite of the push back he received.

I'm all for UK fans forgetting the past, but they can't seem to let go of it, while at the same time imagining that this is somehow Athens, Georgia. It's psychotic.

I like Stoops. I think he's done all he can here and we're better off than what he walked into.

However, I think we're over valuing what others may think of him and what he's done.

He's done good here. I don't know that it warrants a first call from a perennial top 20ish program, with really good history, tradition, and standards significantly higher than what we get geeked up for around here.

I would be offended If I were an Iowa fan and someone told me that Mark Stoops would be great higher. I would probably respond with "Great higher for who? Toledo?"

Iowa St isn't hiring Stoops at this point should Cambell get hired away.

Ferentz offense has largely been undersold around here. Last year was bad, but historically he has very productive offenses. He has had very good productive QBs, TEs, WRs, RBs and great OLs.

Iowa can go get that Oregon OC, Chip Kelly, and even Jon Summerall.

Not sure what CMS wants to do when he's tapped out here. I think he'd be a great higher for a G5 most definitely a great DC/AHC for a lot of folks.

Head man at even a middling P4 in this era, just don't know that he's got it in him at this point. Not sure he'd be willing to change and adapt to the times to keep up.

"Great higher?" They need a "fast paste" offense.
