FCC repeals net neutrality.

If your ISP decides they don't want anyone watching porn, they can block all porn from being transferred through their network.

I've been paying extra for faster internet for several years now. How should I feel?

Pretty sure the free market will work this out. It has with mobile service and it's actually better without regulation in the free market. Unlimited data, hot spots, etc. Why would anyone want the government, which screws everything up, involved in this?

There is no free market when it comes to internet service in America. ISPs basically have a legislated oligarchy set up where there are at most 2 viable choices (that collude with one another to prevent any competition) in most areas of America, and the cost-of-entry into the market is so unbelievably high (intentionally) to prevent any startup from challenging Comcast/ATT.
Net Neutrality is not perfect, but it's a bandaid on the bulletwound that is the ISP market in America.
The public turning this into a partisan debate is moronic and only really exists because the general populace can't be assed to do any independent research and thus resort to just parroting the company line. I'm a staunch conservative and couldn't be more pro-net neutrality given the logistics behind the alternatives currently.

Bingo. Most younger folks have no idea how a free market works (they are taught that the government is the answer to any problem) and the news has been screaming about how this will destroy the internet. In the end the free market works and the companies will find ways to get their customers what they want. Don't believe everything CNN or Mark Zuckerberg says (which is incredibly hypocritical as he/Facebook has literally hidden certain political posts while pushing others to be seen).

Here's your free market without net neutrality when you have no alternatives for service.

This is not a hypothetical or propaganda image, this is what Portugal has right now.

I'm all for a free market BUT internet is very rarely open to competition because it's essentially a utility. It's nearly impossible for a new internet provider to come in to an established area and if they do it takes years to implement.

I'm not doubting that the worst-case scenario would be a bad one. I'm just skeptical that is what will actually happen.

Might as well go on and fill up a portable hard drive with some porn for a few years.

Not getting political, but I don't look for many things that are happening in the current political landscape to hang on for very long. JMO.

The predicted doom from this is absurd.

The savior of the world, Net Neutrality, has only been around for about 2.5 years. Absolutely NOTHING has changed with my internet since it went into place. In the typical nanny state fashion folks are now saying "but if we hadn't put this in place the world would have ended".

I'm going to laugh at all of you when nothing changes in the next year.

I live in a small town and have at&T, the cable internet option as well as a local municipal option. I've asked both the cable company and the municipal provider and they anticipate NO changes.

The fact is this. If this was SOOOO important then the Obama administration should have passed this through contract instead of putting an easily reversible regulation in place.

Oh hey look...Obama's fault.

True broadband should be treated as a public utility.

It should also be approached in the same manner as rural electrification. Run fiber everywhere.
Are the same people claiming the end of the internet as we know it....for the last 2.5 years, the same that said if Trump was elected the stock market would crash? Something tells me everything will be fine.

Those are all content providers. They are not service providers, ISPs, that the content comes thru. That content still has to come thru an ISP.

That's utterly 100% false because ATT has already implemented changes. If you have DirecTV Now it doesn't count against your data when you're an ATT wireless customer. Sure they're not charging more for competitors, they're just making theirs free for now.

New, not physcial, ISP's are coming soon via wireless & satellites. NN assumed we would always have limited number, land-based physical ISPs. That never ever needed to be true. Thank goodness we don't need to be beholden to the whims of the FCC's politicians.

Then you obviously haven't been paying attention. Also like how some are saying phones got better without regulation. Uh back when that happened you were still using a house phone only, so it's not like it was going to get drastically worse, unlike the internet where they can nickle and dime you per website you want to use

Net neutrality was in place long before that, since the beginning of the internet actually, Obama just had to put it under title II and title I to stop people from slowing internet speeds. The SC told him to put it under title II and there's nothing they can do. FCC repealed it and now you'll be stuck with shitty internet. Don't speak on things you don't know about. Also funny how you trust your ISP 100% Bc ya know if the product was going to get worse or more expensive they'd surely tell you up front right? Uhhh no

The difference here is say you got taxed 50% after college, but you got free college. Ok I can deal with that I pay into a system that gets our youth good education and betters the nation as a whole. Paying an extra dollar for Netflix is just me paying more with 0 benefits to me.

As others have noted, if Time Warner (or name your ISP) wants to try and jack your prices up, some other company will come along and find a better way to serve you. It's how technology has advanced for years. When my internet gets incredibly slow and I am stuck with the choice of paying much more for the same thing or having no internet at all, I'll gladly admit this was horrible. But until then I'm not nearly as worried as some of you.

Edit: This is me being more optimistic about other companies finding a way to offer a better product than the traditional ISPs than it is me having faith in ATT or TW or whomever else.

Notice a pattern:
Repeal individual mandate: you don' care about sick ppl, ppl will die in the street, something something rich ppl

Tax plan: you don' care about poor ppl, ppl will die in the street, something something rich ppl.

Net neutrality: you don't care about consumers, ppl will die in the street, something something rich ppl.

Dems with the same elementary response for every issue. It' almost like we are supposed to believe the govt is a God and if we don' appease it, it will smite us
