Expect a run-heavy offense this season from Stoops/Dawson

I'll just reiterate something. UK is not going to be a run heavy offense while going all out for Austin Kendall. We might be 50-50 next year or 55-45 pass run. But when UK gets Kendall's commitment its because he's a pass first QB and we will be a pass first offense when he's under center.

C'mon, it is bigger than just Kendall. UK can't recruit the type of future NFL 1st round draft picks on the O line to be a run-heavy offense in the SEC. If we tried we would be stuffed more times than not in conference, not move the ball, not score points, and get drubbed. Putting the ball in the air 55-60% of the time is UK's route to winning. Stoops knows this better than anyone, hence his commitment twice now to hiring Air Raid offensive coordinators!

How often do you think we're going to use our 4th RB much less need a 5th one? Once Boom and Horton pushed Kemp down to 4th on the depth chart we never saw him again. We'll be fine at RB. If anything it'll be a strength of the offense not a huge challenge for the coaches

I just want to get the ball into the hands of our playmakers as often as possible and in open space as much as possible. UK cannot be a grind it out offense in the SEC. We just don't have enough depth yet. I think we need a lot of quick hitters.

I'll remind you that Boom, Heard and Kemp all missed playing time last year while dinged. I recall years past when UK went thru 5 RBs. The SEC is tough on RBs. Trying to get thru the year with only 3 RBs plus a small true freshman is a gamble.

I agree with you and I think UK will be a 55-45 run pass next year. I keep throwing Kendall in the discussion to refute (IMO) the title of this thread. The content of the thread is good and good discussion but if anyone wants a barometer as to why we will not be a run heavy offense (other than you points) is UK going ALL IN on Austin Kendall. It's why we lead over Auburn. Auburn has to change their offense for him. He's a great fit for the Dawson offense and he's a pass first QB. Others are correct too we have to be able to run the ball in the SEC and we have to be much more physical in the run game. But while Dawson is here we won't be a run heavy offense. We may have games (against lesser competition) that we are but overall we are going to move the chains throwing the ball.

Title s/b "expect a more physical run game (to go along with a more vertical passing game) this season"
