Edrice "Bam" Adebayo official vist to UK

so Wynyard has no shot at playing at UK next season? not even with 10 months being in the system already? I feel like people are using Willis as their reference of expectations for every white player we sign

I would think most would know by now recruits like to enjoy the process and taking all expenses paid visits to schools is part of that. Why did miles bridges officially visit UK after he was a done deal to MSU? Why will harry giles continue to visit schools when he is all but certain to commit to Duke? I don't know about you but if I was a 5-star basketball recruit with almost every school in the country begging for my services I'd enjoy the process and use all 5 of my officials even if I knew exactly where I was going

Kids 17 &18 years old change their minds all the time. I did when I was at that age.

If you're visiting just be using up your free visits, why in the world would you use Auburn for one of those visits? That is not a basketball power house school. I'm sure you're hoping NCState and you might be right, but if Cal is on him, if I were you, I would be a lil worried.

Just playing devil's advocate, if you're N.C. State and you know you have him wrapped up, you ABSOLUTELY want him to visit UK. A program like State needs some positive buzz. There's nothing better than a headline that says "Five-star recruit picks Wolfpack over UK." It gives Gottfried a little street cred to say we went head-to-head with Duke for Smith and won. We went head-to-head with UK for Bam and won. He will have "beaten" the two greatest recruiters on the planet. The fact that these recruitments were sown up in back-channel deals will be irrelevant.

I understand that but man that is playing with fire.

Kinda surprised to see Cal continue to go after bigs when it appears we are set down low. At 6'9, Bam would surely start at the 4, so Cal must plan to play Wenyen at the 3 and Sacha at the 5. I would probably rather see Sacha at the 4 due to his slight frame but Cal knows what he's doing.

Because Cal said after the NIT season he didn't want to be short handed ever again. If everyone leaves besides Wynard and Humphries, then you add SKJ and Gabriel. That's only 4 bigs with 1 wanting to get some time at the 3. One injury and you're down to 3 and depth becomes an issue. If you can convince the kids to come, share minutes and practice against NBA level talent everyday... then why not?

I bet SKJ will be 20lbs heavier by November 2016. He has already put on weight in the last year and after watching him in one of the late summer AAU games... he has the frame to put on more weight. He just turned 17 and in a fairly recent article on 247 he said he was lifting weights almost every day. Also, look how much muscle Ivan Rabb has put on since arriving at Cal since June.

Cal is one of, if not the most feared men in recruiting. I don't care who the coach we're talking, no way in hell would they suggest one of their prized recruits to visit Kentucky while Cal is here. They might not have a problem with the kid visiting Auburn in this situation, but not Cal and Kentucky. Cal could sway the kid and family on Kentucky with just one visit. You might look good if you beat out Ky on a recruit, but in this situation, the risk is too high to chance it. He may end up at NCState, but I won't buy their coach Wanting this kid anywhere near Cal.

Adebayo is the type of player I could working his way to a top 5 pick in the right program. Unfortunately, it looks like he is going to waste his talent playing for a mediocre coach and probably ends up barely making it into the first round. Plus, he won't sniff the Final Four even with Smith, Alkins, and Azubuike. I like Gottfried and NCSU, but they do not compare to a UK, Duke, or KU. Michigan St. is at least a Final Four contender with a great coach, so I understand Bridges' decision. The Wolfpack hasn't made a Final Four appearance since Valvano was coach. That was over thirty years ago. Gottfried seems to be a nice guy, I kind of like him and pull for him (especially against Duke, UNC, and UofL), but he is not an elite coach.

These kids are making decisions win their hearts and not with their heads. They stand to lose millions by not choosing the right program. If I'm a top 20 talent, I am looking at UK and Duke first and foremost. Then maybe KU. After those schools, you start putting yourself at risk to see your draft stock slip and your chances of getting to a Final Four fall off as well. At least that is how I see it.

Bam is a done deal to nc state. Has been for a while. Is expected to commit on his official Halloween weekend

For some people there's a little more to it than that. If he could've made it he would have. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to. These two visits scheduled will be his last. That being said UK is the only school with even the slightest chance to alter his decision

So which is it? Done deal or slight chance?

Why would any recruits take visits if they already know where they want to go? Hmmm.... Anyone happen to read the Louisville thread.

There is no way we get Bolden, Giles, and Bam (and don't need all three). My first choice would be Giles, but I would be happy with any of them. Cal has all three visiting now, so hopefully he can land at least one.

Agree on one of those three.

I'd be pretty comfortable with a rotation of SKJ, Bolden, Humphries, and Wynyard at the 4 and 5 with Gabriel as a fill in at the 4 at times, but playing primarily at the 3.

Leaning, sure, but in bam's case it is much much more than a lean. This is not a case where bam is leaning to nc state but a great visit elsewhere could change things. Dennis Smith is the key to his recruitment. If it weren't for dennis committing to nc state, and he was also said to be a done deal to state for some time before he committed, things would be different
Smith tore his ACL on August 2nd and it's doubtful he will play this upcoming season. They were rumored to be a package deal before the injury. If Adebayo is thinking he is 1 and done he wouldn't be playing with Smith and may be reevaluating his options.

?? Nice try, but really??

We're talking about players in the 2016 class. That means they won't be attending college until Aug/Sept of next year. Dennis Smith has a full year to recover. There's 0 reason to think he won't be playing next year.

He may just be hoping that these schools recruit like Louisville does. ouch!!

If I were NC State fans, I'd be very nervous. Bam visiting UK isn't something the coaches at NC State want. The last player similar to Bam to go to NC State was CJ Leslie, who went undrafted after his time there. Meanwhile, Terrence Jones goes on to get drafted 18th in the first-round of the NBA draft.

You're right, I was thinking for some reason Smith was a commit to this year's class. He should be fully recovered by next season.

^ Bolden is the only one UK has a real chance with...and I like our chance.

Uk has shot with all 3. Maybe better with bolden but still a shot with all 3.
Let me just say this, I understand there are people on here with more info about certain recruits, but hasnt the last few years taught us anything with recruiting.
The old saying shit happens in recruiting.

Yeah, I'd normally agree, but Tommy has been solid. If he gets excited about Bam, then we've got the green light. if not, it's NC state all the way.

We all know Adidas is running Bam's recruitment and there are other things going on behind the scenes pushing Bam to NC State. However, UK and Cal can change things. I'm sure if Bam is interested in attending UK that NC State may try to bully him into going to State. However, I doubt Adidas will want to do anything to jeopardize their post-college relationship with him. Like I said, Bam needs to look at CJ Leslie and all the Adidas checks he's not cashing, today.

Dennis Jr is another kid that is going to waste so much talent playing for NCState. Why these kids want to risk their future earnings on a below average(I'm being nice) coach really makes you wonder. I know the kid had a major injury, but you have to think he will make a full recovery, but playing for Gof, I'm not sure you can ever fully recover from that. The sad part is, after his freshman year is over and he's drafted 17 or 18 in the draft, some will wonder what happened to his game and its going to be so obvious. Some think if you're a lotto pick, the NBA will find you no matter where you play, even when the evidence is out there showing it does matter where and who you play for. If State ends up with this class and JR is the reason for it, they better honor that kid cause a class like that probably won't happen to them again for a very long time. Especially if Gof is still coaching there. Oh well.

Things have changed a little with Bam, the fact that he is coming to Kentucky for a visit is a sign that Cal has really put in work with this kid. Before he was a NC State lock but now there could be a chance that Cal steals him.

Like I said, I have no doubt you know lots of behind the scenes info, but it is hard to imagine that a visit to Uk couldn't potentially sway him. But I also have no clue how deep the ties are to NC state. Is it more a visit to enjoy the process or is there even a glimmer of hope that Bam could wear blue next year?

I mean, I guess there is always hope...but A LOT would have to happen. Some of which I don't really think is possible.

I think that Cal really likes Bam and is glad to get him on campus, I also believe he knows that it is an incredible long shot...but it puts pressure on Bolden.

You think Adidas would try to force his hand if Bam wanted UK? Could they afford to take that risk?

I think I do have an idea, Cal has turned up the heat on Bam recently and now he is visiting this weekend.

He went from not having Kentucky on his list to saying in an interview that he "might" visit UK...and now he is coming this weekend.

I said there is a ****ing chance, I didn't say that I was some kind of expert.

If you want to say that there is no chance then that's fine. Unless you are John Calipari or part of his family or you somehow know Bam then you really don't know for sure either.

I still say that there is a chance, Cal would not waste all of this time on him if there wasn't a chance.
