Do you eat at "all you can eat" buffet places?

I used to love going to ponderosa for my bday as a kid, loved Chinese buffets, my dad thought all you could eat food was a wonder of the world. They seemed more popular in the 80s and 90s. Last buffet I went to was an Indian lunch one about 10 years ago.

Where are these places and yes even more so. I’d wear crocs on my hands if they made em.
Here ya go

Just hit up Mr. Gattis this past Saturday. As I get older though, just turned 69 on the 10th, I don't feel like I get my moneys worth. Go to Golden Corral and Chinese Buffets too. As Andrew Zimmern says, if it tastes good, eat it!
I would tear up the Gattis buffet. Haven't been since Covid-19 stopped it last year but I just saw the one by my house is doing the buffet again and I will probably hit it up here soon. I get my money's worth when I do go.

Pre-Covid, I used to love buffets. It probably started when I was a kid during the 60’s and we would go to Blue Boar in Eastland. I know it was a cafeteria but I was always disappointed because my parents would pick out my food. I ate the pizza buffets in college and before 2020, when I was in a hurry for lunch, I would hit Hometown Pizza, have my 3-4 pieces and be in and out in 10 minutes. I like the Brazilian Steakhouse concept because I love lamb chops, picanha, big red wine, cheese biscuits, fried plantains, and garlic mashed potatoes.
As far as seafood, had to have the New Orleans House for frog-legs. When we would take the kids to Myrtle Beach, we would always have to eat at some “Calabash”, particularly the one with the pirate out front. I also have found out that crab legs were Chinese food. Traveling, there were the hotel breakfast buffets, from the round egg patties at the Hampton with my son’s swim team to the spread at Embassy Suites while at a conference.
There was mimosas at the Jazz brunch at Court of 3 Sisters.
If you are at AI resort in Mexico or Jamaica, time spent eating or waiting to eat breakfast or lunch vs. a buffet takes away time that could be better spent drinking or checking out topless women at the beach. On a cruise ship at some point you are going to want a break from eating with the random strangers they seat you with.
I did like buffets but you just have to remember, one plate really is enough unless you enjoy feeling miserable.

Group of us decided to not eat in Raleigh and head on to Wilmington NC.

Stopped at a place out in boonies that had a lunch buffet. It was everything from a hog but the squeal.

There’s a place in Ville Platt LA, Cajun catfish and seafood buffet that’s really good food. Family owned maybe 5 employees but it’s not a huge spread of trays with 100 people at a time. The catfish is unreal delicious as is the seafood and seats about 40 people but everything you want is in there. I think on Saturdays they have frog legs and the beer is cans only kept in a huge cooler that you have to get yourself 🍺
So if any of you goes to Ville Platt make sure you eat there 🍺
I have a friend in Ville Platt that owns a place called Paul's Meat Market.......best fried Boudan in LA..........he has been on the Man vs Fire on Food Network.......great food.....

Not much of a buffet person, hit up the one at Caesar's about 4 years ago. Probably won't go to another buffet, nothing will top it.
We went there several years ago when Paula Dean was the name on the buffet.....sat through breakfast and lunch......just to get a good sampling........food was delicious......haven't been back since.......I am not a gambler.........

Louisiana people know how to cook. We use to go there a lot when I was a kid and one lady in particular was an unbelievable cook. She even made the best tasting ham sandwich I ever ate but her cajun food like gumbo, etouffee and jambalaya was out of this world.

That's an excellent tip. Go to Louisiana and follow fat people around if you want to know the best places to eat. If you can worm your way into a herd then you're all set.

Hell to the F*cking yeah!! Usually just pull up a chair to the buffet line and work my way down, especially for the Chinese buffets.

Yup. Jimmy isn't there a ton anymore. His wife just opened a land scape business and he helps her most days. I have been with them since the original that was over by Iceland on Lagrange Road.
Used to hit up the Middletown store but don't work out that way anymore. Glad to hear they are still open and didn't succumb to the shutdown.

It was close I think but they were able to do enough carry out to get by. I think that's why she opened the land scaping thing.

Awf do you go to Na Lens much ? That’s what we call it but if you do you can’t miss this one local place to eat called Lil Dizzys Cafe. It’s some of the best Creole food you will ever eat thats not at somebody’s house. They do have a buffet there but it’s not a very big one but so damn good. Breakfast lunch dinner all served if you go by menu but best I recall they close in the early afternoon. It’s all family owned and and mainly just regulars eat there but it stays full from my experiences, I’ve only been twice but it’s amazing food and they take pride in what they serve and will give you a background on each dish if you want to know 🍺

Yes, but I go early before the sneezes and idiots have a chance. The key to buffets is arrive at opening time.

Barely ever but the Oasis buffet is pretty bomb. Also been to some great Indian buffets.

I bet she misses you eating “down there”.
Damn straight.

My college girlfriend was from Baton Rouge. I don't miss her but I sure do miss spending a lot of time down there and eating everything. The cajun food is obviously amazing but I found they even had great ethnic food, too. Best spring rolls I ever had were in Baton Rouge.
I bet she misses you eating “down there” and eating “everything “.

There's a buffet near Myrtle Beach named Simply Southern Smokehouse that is highly recommended. The line is usually an hour long for dinner. Wonderful down-home food.

Last dinner buffet I can recall is the one in the casino on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls ~3 years ago. Extremely underwhelmed.

Now a good BREAKFAST buffet, I will go for that most any time. Frisch's breakfast bar has been slipping in recent years, though.

And as an aside I wear crocs just about every d@mn day. Not the garish rubbery ones, but the crocs slip-on loafers like the Crocs Walu slip-ons. I don't like to wear socks any more, I have 4 pairs of these Crocs in different colors to coordinate with my clothes. Very comfortable and they last forever.

Didn't know that matching clothes made you gay, but on that charge my fiancee would make an extremely convincing witness in my defense.

Well, let's just say I don't have 4 pairs of color coordinated Crocs to match my gardening gloves that my "fiancee" will vouch for.
