Diallo scheduled to play 5 on 5 at combine

I hate the NBA's interfering with an individual's right to sell his services at any age. Baseball , tennis and soccer have no rule preventing a talented individual from selling his services at any age. Basketball (the NBA) used to permit signings out of high school (LBJ,Garnett, Moses Malone, Billy Willoughby , a UK signee, Kobe, multiple others.) Why not Diallo? I know that is a separate issue from his "using" UK. I just hate the NBA's rule.

I hate it as well. Go out if HS if you can ball on that level or stay at least two yrs would be the most fair to me. All though I do love UK getting all this talent every year. I just hate people getting pissy over decisions that are not their own. It's the kids life, his dream

Its completely out of my control as most things in life are. I hope he does well and I hope he decides to play for us next year. At worst he helped us in practice and adds another name to the NBA that came through Kentucky. This all Helps Coach Cal in recruiting...........

No matter what, its been one hell of a fun ride the last eight years with Cal here..... and there is more to come!

I think leaving UK now will be a big regret for Diallo. It's great to have a lot of athleticism on your team, but if you're turning the ball over and can't score, well .... the NBA won't care as you're just another number. He can come back, further develop against NBA level talent here at UK, and stand a VERY good chance at both winning a national championship and ending up as a high lottery pick.

Diallo leaving could be a blessing in disguise if Johnson comes in to replace him. Johnson can shoot better and brings experience. That's the two things we really need to complete this team. Plus Johnson will possibly play two seasons. In the long run "trading" Diallo for Johnson might be a better deal than keeping Diallo. Of course, there is no guarantee if we lose Diallo that we get Johnson. Still, I like to look on the bright side and be optimistic. Hopefully Johnson is the silver lining for this potential dark cloud (Diallo staying in the draft).

Also why does anyone care if someone is considered a Kentucky player or not? Is that just all you have left to criticize Diallo for?

Is Richie Farmer a wildcat? Is Daniel Orton? Michael Porter? Shawn Kemp? Kyle Wiltjer? Why? What does it mean? Are you sending them Christmas cards?
If you think former UK players are not important to people in this state and don't have an advantage over us average folk then you must not have lived here long.

I think the Knox surprise changed a lot in terms potential personnel problems next year. I'd love to have Diallo and/or Johnson, but assuming we land Bamba, the team will already have 2 guys at each position.

Anyone added besides Bamba is gravy at this point. That wasn't the case one week ago.

What advantages does Daniel Orton have?

If he had bothered to finish off his school work his last semester at UK probably the same noteriety as most the other players.

Exactly. it's kind of like med school. If you can perform surgery right out of high school you should be allowed to. No one should tell anyone what to do and they should be allowed in any industry if they can do it. Who do they think they are making their own rules for their particular industry. I think I'll go do some surgery right now just to show em.

Like what?

And if he played here, isn't he a Wildcat for life? That's all I've heard about Diallo and how he's "not a Wildcat" because he didn't play in a game.

I'll tell you what we could take a poll and see how many fans would consider him a wildcat if he never plays for UK and we all know he certainly is good enough not to ride the pine, but lets just forget about it. I'm not going to harbor him ill will. I know he didn't hurt UK but he also as yet hasn't helped the program.

I don't doubt that most people would say he's not a Wildcat. I'm just saying I don't see why that has all of a sudden become some standard, aside from the fact that folks are upset and don't have anything else to use against him.

We never talk about Farmer no longer being a Cat for his crimes and embarrassment, or Porter for what he did, or Orton for leaving without finishing classes, but suddenly a kid who hasn't even left yet is no longer a Wildcat. It sounds like hurt feelings and lashing out.

I agree that he didn't hurt the program, but we also don't know how much he helped push guys in practice, how much good info he's given to Bamba about his experience at UK, etc.

I'm not arguing we should build a statue for the kid, I just feel like the animosity is way overblown, especially for a decision that hasn't been made yet, and folks are just looking for ways to tear the guy down.

The reason the animosity is overblown is because fans still don't like players staying only one year and the Diallo situation is unique in that he stayed only 1/2 a year and never played. I don't think it likely this would happen again and I would agree fans shouldn't take out all their frustrations about losing all our good players every year on Diallo.

Going to disagree with you on this. What people miss about Diallo is he is an elite defender who just got to hone those skills by going against two of the best guards in the country. Has insane length for even 6ft6 combined with other elite defensive guys like Vanderbilt and hopefully Bamba the early season growing pains because of being young will be far less than many think. This team will be almost impossible to score on.

I have no problem with one and done its not the players or Cal's fault. I know we have a coach who will always put us in position to win. Final fours 4 out of last 7 seasons. A title no other team has done that or won more games. Only one one team and no coach has more championships in that time frame. In Cal's tenure here only two teams and one coach has one more title. K who is recruiting the same as us and UConn. Now if Kanter plays in 11 if WCS doesn't go down to injury in 14 and if Poythress doesnt get hurt in 15 it is safe to assume at least one of those 3 seasons we win one more title. Let's be one hundred percent honest take Higgins out of the equation we had a hell of a shot at winning this year. Take Higgins out and Poythress doesn't get hurt in 15 we probably win a ship and go undefeated. This crap that you can't win with young players is just that crap the opinion that player turn over and new rosters can't win championships is crap. Not one of those things I mentioned had a thing to do with youth but the outside things that can derail even the best team in a one loss tourney.

We will be young next season but freakishly good defensively. We have the kinda pg who already is tight with the other fresh who are all buds we won't lose as many games as we did in 14 and we will be damn near immune to foul trouble with virtually no weaknesses by the time we gel as usual right before March. Weak year in college hoops got a hell of a shot to win it all. And should have several players return off this team and are in with the best next season run a hell of a shot at back to back. So as a fan I am thrilled to once again have a legit chance at a title every year!
