Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

Technically we'd lose more, in terms of on court contributions, if Brad Calipari decided to leave...

I would agree however that if this kid is so damn good then Cal should have played him. We lost the UNC game because Fox and Monk were flat out gassed, which made them vulnerable on defense and unable to get their legs completely into their shots on offense.

Hami playing from the get go could have allowed Cal to manage minutes a bit better and by the time the dance rolled around maybe the kid would have gotten just enough run under his belt to be able to contribute effectively, and maybe more importantly provide Monk and Fox with just a few minutes extra rest each game.

Let me just say, I wish the kid all the best. I hope for his sake he absolutely BLOWS UP in workouts and becomes a top ten pick.

Can you imagine draft night when he goes 9th to the Kings and Cal gives him a big hug?

You could charge a hundred dollars a ticket to post on Rupp's Rafters that night.

I'll bring the popcorn. [laughing]

That is making an assumption that players didn't already know about Diallo to UK. The truth is, we have no idea who else Cal could have gotten. We can do this all day, we simply disagree, vehemently.

Yes, we do know who else Cal could have gotten. At least within the realistic parameters of "knowing" anything. There was no one to get. We've seen examples of choosing one player over another. It's easy to watch unfold. Last year we got Malik Monk instead of Markelle Fultz. This year there was no one we missed on because of Diallo.

To argue otherwise is completely reaching to try and support your unhappiness with this situation.

No. I don't get paid millions to do so, either.

No, but you’re apparently an expert on how the NCAA tournament works, and who should win a title and when. You’re also apparently an expert on which groups of 18 year-olds should win the national title.

Why aren’t you working for Las Vegas with all your perfect prognostications concerning 18 year-olds? You’re missing your calling in life.

I agree with everything you are saying, it might suck bad next year.

Doesnt change the fact that your top recruit wants to commit and enroll early and tells you he will play the next season.

Agreed, but Cal had to know this was a possibility. Hell, any reasonable person knew this was a possibility. I think the writing was really on the wall when Cal began scrambling here in the past month or so to sign some guys, none of which will make an immediate impact.

I have no problem with him coming in early. Good for him, he got to practice with future pros. But all the eggs are in one basket, and if he does in fact leave, that basket is empty. Hell, Brad may get some minutes at the 2 next year without Diallo. [laughing]

Watch the Diallo documentary, he and his mom lives in the projects and she works multiple jobs to put food on the table.

If any of you begrudge him because he wants to get his mother out of the situation she is in, you should be ashamed.

He should do what's best for his career and family, if we get to watch him play for UK next year, thats great, but for us it's just basketball

For Diallo and his mom , this is real, and this greatly affects them personally and financially

THIS.. is where I have a problem.

He (potentially) used Kentucky. He told the staff he wanted to play, and when the time came for him to hold up his end of the bargain, he flakes. IF.. IF.. he does leave without playing a game, why should we not begrudge him? A car salesmen sells you a lemon, but hey, he put food on his table for his family.. does that make it OK? Are you fine with that?

Kentucky fans have every right to be pissed, and pissed AT Diallo if he bolts..

.. pretty sure he won't care much anyways, so it's all moot.

As I said months ago.. we just have to let it play out. Still think he comes back.

What's this about 1/2 and done? More like none and done. He has not played a second for UK.

Maybe.

Also, you guys might as well relax. We probably aren't winning it all next year anyway, with or without Diallo. The tournament is too random.

There is a greater chance our fans reaction on social media makes him leave than any team falling in love with him and him bolting. Some of the stuff on twitter and this message board is over the top and embarrassing.

I'm betting that a lot of those posts are by rival fanbases posing as UK fans.

I do to. And will find out from the pros what they want him to work on. I don't blame him one bit to get the information.

Guessing there is no point in reading the rest of the thread (read page 1)
No surprise whatsoever that he's at least testing - truly expected it
He wants to find out what he needs to work on most and that's fine

I really believe he'll be back - but if I'm wrong and he's not, what can you do?
I don't plan on leaving the BBN because of it

This class is not guard heavy.

If he didnt cause us to miss on anyone great then it's not an issue, other than our expectations for next year. :flushed:

That post was way too reasonable for this thread.

I'm still trying to figure out why the trolls are mad.
1. He couldn't shoot a lick. That's all I have heard all year.
2. If he leaves, Cal will keep recruiting the same players who will be here more than one year. You know the way you bitch about one and done? Doesn't that make you feel better?

It's so funny. I have a pretty good read on who the trolls and anti Cal posters are. Think you and a select few are the only others. It's obvious.

They're the same couples you see on Cops because they love each other so much.

I must have missed it?

The top SG in the nation that you are recruiting wants to commit and enroll early.

Says he will return the next season.

But you still say no?
Yes I would have said no unless he guaranteed that he would come back for another year. No one knows the details but I highly doubt that Cal got that guarantee from the kid. So many variables in play as others have mentioned from the recruiting butterfly effect, the negative PR that will reign down from the media about the situation and the message that it sends to future recruits that UK is even more about "that NBA life." If a kid is a first rounder he should leave and go to the league no questions asked. But it's also true that UK basketball will suffer and likely not win a championship with this level of roster turnover.

People are upset because a scholarship is a one year contract where a player (if eligible) receives: free education & free lodging in addition to instruction from college caliber coaches in return for playing a sport and representing their university. He never played in a game while still reaping all the benefits in particular top flight basketball coaching in specific areas of instruction. He was eligible to play and physically able of body but he did not actually play while still receiving all the benefits of the contract he signed. People are pissed he didn't fulfill his end of the contract and IF Cal allowed him to do that then people are upset at coach that he allowed it to occur.

perhaps better standing with Knox
perhaps could have gotten in on MJ Walker
perhaps better standing with Smith

This staff is too good at recruiting and has too many connections to make such a definitive argument.

Keep in mind the talk of Diallo not going to college started late summer last year.

It’s not so “either/or” with Diallo. After 8 years of Cal, most of us get it. We understand the financial argument.

There’s a third group of people in this debate, however – the group that understands that Diallo is actually projected top go top 20 next year in a weak-ass draft. That’s substantially different than his present status as a mid-2nd round pick to potentially not even drafted in the present draft.

He has a better chance of making real money with another year in school. That’s not really debatable at this point. Thus, the “you guys are selfish if you want him back” is really quite lacking if one looks at the present data. Currently, Diallo is hardly even considered a 2nd round pick.

It’s not selfish to point out what the data/feedback/facts actually presently represent.

Shouldn't be pissed at all. It's another argument in favor of Cal that his practices prepare you for the pros.

The bigger question would be, why did we even bring him here?

Just to give us another body for practice?

Because he was the #1SG and we dont have one next year.

He and his HS coach both said he wasnt ready for college ball yet.

Cal watched him everyday.

If the next SG we could have gotten was Shai (dual) or Baker what did we lose?

We could only win in this situation, there simply wasn't another stud heading our way that we know of.

If he does come back many on here will look silly for asking why did we take him?

Who knows what will happen.

I do hope that Calipari continues after Mark Smith.
