Gillispie wasn't fired until March 27th. Usually going into the Elite 8 is when I imagine you'd see which coach is still coaching and could talk.
Of course you're a fan of Cal, Matt. Politicians & Ambitions. Both sides of his mouth must be chapped from the talking.
Matt doesn’t know any more than anybody else.
The fact that Mitch hasn’t said anything says a lot in my opinion. He always issues a statement right after the season ends supporting cal. He knows the state of affairs in this state right now.
His silence tells me he’s working on moving on. Why else wouldn’t he come out and say ‘cal is our coach’?

It looks to me like this went over BennyD’s head. “Still a fan” of the program. Not “still a fan” of Cal. Am I wrong?
I would think if Mitch knew he was already going to keep Cal before any meeting, there would not have to be a decision to be made. This time seems different. Maybe they know it is time to go and just need Cal take another job so they know how much money will be offset according to what another school pays Cal before any new coach would come here. A new coach won't agree in principle to a deal without knowing the dollar amount first. So I will remain optimistic and hope this is the case and indeed Cal will be out of here.
I have always been entertained by the posters who claim to have the inside scoop going back to a poster who said his grandfather was on the board at UK. He said that the UK board was 100% behind Tubby and Tubby would remain as HC for the forseeable future. Tubby left a week later and that poster disappeared.

Although I do believe he is as arrogant as Cal, he does still have connections to ALL UK programs. So I will follow what he says a little more closely than some on an IU message board or ME MAN BOY.
Also, Matt LOVES being the very first to announce something associated with UK Basketball. And it doesn't matter WHO he ticks off in doing so!!!
Yeah the ones who happen to get it right just got a lucky guess. No one on here has been proven to be a consistent source.
Sorry you missed it. It was the running joke for a long time. Everytime a thread was started with "Matt said..." it had about a 10% chance of coming true. As I recall, a lot it had to do with recruiting and transfer portal. I am sorry I didn't save those posts/threads. But, they really weren't worth saving.

He makes a good point. All of these…..sometimes contradictory ….statements coming out from ‘people who know’, I doubt they’re onto anything because it’s pretty much one person’s decision , and the people close to him don’t even know

You CAN’T make a change unless you have a new coach who has accepted the position via back channeling. Just look at the angry mob after the Louisville AD right now. Mitch is probably asking candidates many of which are still coaching right now (Hurley, Drew, Otzelberger, Oates) about interest. You embarrass the school by making a change without already locking up the new guy and the AD gets fired.
That is ridiculous on so many levels. Just to point out that Florida won the 2 titles in back to back years (06 and 07). We were a bubble team both those years. But, besides that, the SEC wasn't as tough top to bottom as it is today.

Well, I'd say that a full buyout is seemingly unlikely, or else it would have been done by now (unless it's purposely being held onto for Black Monday).. so it's seemingly down to some sort of negotiation, where we are hoping Cal takes a pay cut, some other deal, or possibly if he gets hired elsewhere.

He argued with me when I said UCONN was far better than UK. Hope, he is proven correct today on that. He argued with me when I said James Madison was a dangerous 12 seed.
Kentucky rebuilds every year with a mass exodus to the NBA Draft. Next year won't be any different whether it is Cal with his 6 incoming freshmen or a new coach. The next coach can bring his current players over in the transfer portal along with transfers from other colleges to expedite the process. Plus their incoming recruits just as much as Cal does starting over with a young team year after year. I believe there is a good chance that the next coach would be able to retain the Kentucky kid Travis Perry and Reed may still even come back too.
I just want to live long enough to see him guess correctly on anything . The Duke line has went up all day now 7.5 that’s a lot of points in my opinion go JM
Perhaps MB is waiting for a coach, who he has on good authority will take the call, is still dancing. Thus, no sudden movements have been made.
I kind of feel like Cal returns would've been announced. I feel like so and so coach not busy dancing would've percolated already.
About the only reason for radio silence is the candidate(s) are still coaching and MB isn't a dick head so he's not going to start leaking info and messing with the team(s) still playing.
