This sounds familiar, I remember another coach quitting multi-team events because he was a sore loser...
"Waaaah!"
"Waaaah!"
Their history may not have started back in the 40's/50's like some of the traditional "blue bloods", but they've spanked every blue bloods tail with 6 titles in the past 25 years. Got to give respect where it is due...UConn could be the best program overall in the past 25 years and not sure its close.FYI, UConn is NOT a blueblood! Lmfao 🙄
I'm not saying we aren't a blueblood....heck blueblood means one of the originals. I am just saying saying you're a blue blood doesn't mean that you've been a top program over the past 25 years. Like I said...3 titles in FORTY FIVE YEARS! I like the direction we are going, loved the first 8 years of Cal, but quit acting like we have been the best in recent history and trying to downplay other schools because they weren't good back in the 50's when we had 8 teams in the tournament lolI would say 8 titles and still the winningest college basketball program of all time says we are the bluest of bluebloods. it doesn't matter when we won them, only one school has more titles and most of theirs come 40 and 50 years ago. UCONN is a good program and has raised their status in the basketball world, but still not in the top 20 in all time wins.
You can tell by his attitude that he needs them back.Dan Hurley taking his ball and going home...
Did his wife let him have them back?
For all of their recent success (most of which have been fluky lightning in a bottle championships), they could very easily disintegrate in the conference realignment/NIL era under the wrong coach. If Hurley leaves (and it’s coming soon, maybe after this year) they could easily fall off. Thats why I don’t consider them a blue blood.Their history may not have started back in the 40's/50's like some of the traditional "blue bloods", but they've spanked every blue bloods tail with 6 titles in the past 25 years. I for one get tired of hearing our fans make our claim using seasons that happened 60-70 years ago. Fact is we have won 3 titles since 1979......3 in 45 years. That's nothing to brag about when trying to make a claim as a blue blood.
UConn would have 2 or 3 less championships if we were still using the "conference champion" rule of the 50'sI'm not saying we aren't a blueblood....heck blueblood means one of the originals. What does blue blood mean? Its reasonable and logical if you define it, to be one of the best programs in history. Well 6 titles is one of the best in history.FYI, UConn is NOT a blueblood! Lmfao 🙄
I agree Uconn has been a premier program the last 25 yrs. However, "blue blood" represents sustained success over the lifespan of a program.Their history may not have started back in the 40's/50's like some of the traditional "blue bloods", but they've spanked every blue bloods tail with 6 titles in the past 25 years. This! It’s the reason they say he’s the perfect fit for them. He’s a prick, just like their base. A whiny, arrogant prick at that.Hurley acts just like a lot of the UConn fan base (which is from NYC), for those who remember them from the game at MSG with Cal's first team, Maui, and the F4's in Houston and Dallas. They're complete pricks who act like meatheads.
It hasn't been just Hurley....6 titles in the past 25 years. They aren't a "blueblood" just because they weren't successful in the 50's like some others including us were. They have been though one of if not the best overall program in the past 25 years. For all of their recent success (most of which have been fluky lightning in a bottle championships), they could very easily disintegrate in the conference realignment/NIL era under the wrong coach. If Hurley leaves (and it’s coming soon, maybe after this year) they could easily fall off. Thats why I don’t consider them a blue blood.
Again....why are we looking at 70 YEARS AGO! Heck Dallas isn't even thought of much as "Americas Team" anymore and its only been 30 years since theyre success lol. Should we call them the Greatest of All Time even though they haven't done squat since the 90's? Are they just as good of a program as Kansas City just because they had success 30 years ago?UConn would have 2 or 3 less championships if we were still using the "conference champion" rule of the 50's
bluebloods are the schools that put CBB on the map in the 50's, 60's and 70's
Uconn is an elite program because of their championships, but they will never be a blueblood
I understand what you are saying, but not sure on the "sustained" success. We measure success here by titles, correct? What success did we sustain from the late 70's until 1996? Then from 1998 until 2012? Those are huge chunks and if you eliminate the 50'2 when we had 8 team title tourneys then we aren't even thought of as a Top 5 program all time in my opinion.I agree Uconn has been a premier program the last 25 yrs. However, "blue blood" represents sustained success over the lifespan of a program.
What happened 60-70 years ago isn't irrelevant-it's called legacy and tradition. UK just moved on from a low point. I like Pope's chances at regaining our rightful place among the best programs bc not many teams have won a title under so many different head coaches.
The future is bright. Go Cats!!!
i don't think you understand the difference in being a blueblood and an elite programAgain....why are we looking at 70 YEARS AGO! My point is...being a "blue blood" really doesn't mean sh*t and its funny that some fans still act like they take pride in that. Nobody cares what the teams that your great grandfather watched as a kid did. I am Kentucky Blue through and through, but I am also a realist. We have won 3 titles since the 70's.
I understand perfectly what a blue blood is. What I do not understand is when fans try to use the status of "blue blood" to elevate our status in todays game. The poster made the comment...."UConn is no blue blood" like they actually care and that's supposed to matter. The teams that were good in the 40's and 50's because they had the advantage of getting the best players at that time and had an 8 team tournament doesn't mean anything in todays world.i don't think you understand the difference in being a blueblood and an elite program
What a Punk Post.Like I said...3 titles in FORTY FIVE YEARS!
Is that really much better? I was making the comparison from modern times. The modern era is considered from 1985, so how about we say 3 titles in going on 40 years? Is that better? What a Punk Post.
Make that 4 Titles in FORTY SIX YEARS
are you a UK fanI understand perfectly what a blue blood is. What I do not understand is when fans try to use the status of "blue blood" to elevate our status in todays game. It's almost like if my great great grandfather was a world class surgeon and today I am still talking about my family of surgeons when everyone after him never even made it to medical school lol. Awesome we dominated during a 10 year span in the 40's and 50's when basketball first started to become a thing and gained the title of "blueblood". Now what does that have to do with our status SEVENTY YEARS LATER?
Do I have to slobber over 1940 and 1950 titles that were 30 years before I was born in order to be a Kentucky fan?are you a UK fan
that just shows you how hard winning championships isDo I have to slobber over 1940 and 1950 titles that were 30 years before I was born in order to be a Kentucky fan?
Been around this board 16 years and bleed blue to the fullest. I'm just not someone who likes seeing people claim fame based on what they did 70 years ago. We were top of the heap during Ricks later years and Cal's first 8 years. Other than that we have been mediocre at best since Joe B's title.
And there proves you have no clue what you are talking about....that just shows you how hard winning championships is
we have had a lot of FF's in that timeframe
so we have been much more than mediocre
so you are throwing out the very good to great years ...........got itAnd there proves you have no clue what you are talking about....
Taking out, like I mentioned, Ricks later years (lets say 94-97) and Cals first 8 years (09-17) since Joe B's title (1978) we have a whopping THREE Final Fours in those 34 other seasons. That is text book mediocrity for a program that is supposed to be one of the premiere programs in America. I'm a numbers and facts guy...not a blind lead with my heart guy.
