D-League

Good morning folks. Working from home the rest of the year. Starting to feel a bit more like Christmas. HArd to believe it'll be here in five days...

I've spent Christmas in the wastes of Saudi Arabia, in Mogadishu, in Port Au Prince, Kabul and Baghdad. BUT -- I never spent Christmas in prison, knock on wood. Still, I like this song, and can identify with the idea of being lonely at this time of the year and missing someone -- or everyone...

Good morning all,

Off today (As I am most days but this one is a leave from work day.) Using up some leave.

Hope your day is enjoyable.

My Darling and I should be hitting the road in a bit. Going to the Quantico Marine base Commissary and I am betting a couple markets. I filled the tank yesterday so....

Good morning from ATX. Chilly 36°F. Warming to 63°F later today.

Cats vs Buckeyes from MSG. Game at 4:30 CT. Go Big Blue!

Wishing y'all a good one.

My cousin mentions her mom in FL had a coo-coo clock just like this. Owned by Spezialbrau, Bamberg, and located in dining room.

Good morning folks. Game day for the Cats!

This Saturday is usually a fun part of the Christmas run-up to me. IT's the day that for years we'd have a Christmas party at my wife aunt's house in Manhattan. And I remember very distinctly being there twice when the Cats beat UNC-CHeats in epic games, and another time when the Cats obliterated UCLA -- the 2014 game that was 41-14 at the half, or whatever. Of course, I couldn't watch the games at the party but when we made it back to our hotel room and the Cats had won, it helped make those Christmas parties even more memorable.

No party today, but it is a nice opportunity for the Cats to close out the out of conference part of the schedule as a huge success.

I hope all of you are doing well and sliding deep into the Christmas vibe.

Read a bit on a couple of Ohio State boards. With their missing players, most expect to lose. That is as it should be when someone plays UK.

I was just reading about Albert Puhols. His senior year in high school, he hit 8 home runs in 33 official at bats. He had 55 intentional walks.
Thinking about this post. We were playing a softball team leading by two runs in the bottom of the seventh. They had the bases loaded with two outs. Their batter had played for the professional softball team out of Louisville. Don't know if they still have pro softball or not. Anyhow, we walked him intentionally, then got the next guy out to win by one run.

That is true baseball even though softball. So many intricacies of the game....

Wife gave me a compliment this morning as we were cleaning up and getting ready to go out for lunch. She was putting her make up on and I was grooming my beard. As I was combing and brushing it, I noticed she was watching me (The beard is her idea) so I ask (jokingly), "What? Do I look like the bearded lady or something? She laughed (it worked) and then said; "There is nothing lady about you, no one could ever mistake you for being gay". Best compliment she has ever given me.

Quite a few years ago, mine wanted to get her concealed carry license. I taught her to shoot and went to classes with her so she could get her permit. Sometime later we got in the car to go somewhere and I said, " I forgot my 38." She said, " that is ok, if something happens, I am handing mine to you." I took that as a compliment.

Worst half of the season so far. Bradshaw is playing like he has a chip on his shoulder. UK bigs have got to be more productive on the offensive end. Pope has been excellent at making half-time adjustments. Hopefully he can do it again.

Forgot to hit the send button after the first half. Playing better in the 2nd but so far not good enough. Plenty of time.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 46°F and partly cloudy. Expecting 65°F for our high today.

What horrible game last night. Buckeyes pounded our Cats. I trust Coach Pope fixes these issues.

Wishing y'all a peaceful Sunday.

Here's our plane sitting on the tarmac -- a Boeing 787 named "Kiel" for the north German city. Flew directly from Frankfurt a.m. Flughafen to ATX. Great flight.

Good morning all,

Won't make church this morning. My Darling left already. I have to go to Fort Belvoir, pick up two mutts, put them in MY car...take them to my daughters house and throw/ drop them off in her garage but I have her house key so I will put them in their cages to make sure they won't hit the road running... (Going to Fort Belvoir will give me a chance to check the package store and see if any of my regulars are on sale. No luck on Quantico yesterday in that area. No sales but I still have a good stash anyway. (Liking that Golden Pilsner Yuengling but it only comes in 12 packs. Wanted to pick up another one as I mix the Black & Tans, Lagers, and Pilsners per the taste at the time. (I can catch them a buck or two off some times. Yeah I am a scrooge type.)

Then I have to come back home, dry my other daughters and grand daughters laundry (Her dryer broke, her new one is to arrive Christmas eve.. she is to drop it off at my house at some point soon.) THEN, I will deliver her laundry back to her once dried and probably folded...

THEN, My Darling should be nearing coming back home from church and THEN we will head to the airport (DCA) to pick up my daughter and the BB from their return from Florida...

Then I can rest at work tomorrow... ;)

Hey, I am drinking a cup of coffee with Hershey's pure cocoa powder, cinnamon, and half, and half. When I leave I will make another for the road minus the cocoa and cinnamon....

I DID find some coconut powder at a decent price though but it won't arrive until the 28th... (Me Christmas present...to me...)

I am not complaining, many would like to have my "troubles"....

Yeah I type TOO much!

Merry Christmas!

Have a Christ-Blessed Lord's day...

Good late morning folks,

Nothing I can add to the Cats' terrible performance. I'm a bit afraid a couple comeback wins over Duke and Gonzaga gave us all a bit of undue excitement over this team Pope was able to cobble together from scratch. Yesterday may be closer to the reality. If so, I'll be grateful for the big wins early in the season and wait to see what Pope can do with a full year to create a roster. Caleb Wilson seems more critical than ever: Pope needs a Mashburn-type recruit to elevate the program again.

It was 19f when I headed out for a 5 mile run today, and it felt like it. A hot shower and a cup of coffee was never more appreciated.

Hope you guys have a great Sunday.

Good morning folks. Cold and clear in the east. Last work day before Christmas and just a partial work day at that.

We have guests arriving from NYC around 2pm -my wife’s aunt, cousin and a family friend from Ireland. Should be interesting.

Off the getca run in before things get more hectic. Hope it is a good day for everyone.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 58°F and partly cloudy. Increasing rain chances tomorrow.

Wishing y'all a great start to your Christmas week.

HA,

From my memories, a chance of rain in Texas most anywhere is more of a "hope" for rain but understood.

I "want" cookies but pass them by IF my will power allows...

Merry Christmas cookies to all!

MAN,

Went to the airport yesterday (DCA), to pick up my youngest and the BB from their trip to Florida.

Just a HORRIBLE mess at the airport. One darned cop car blocking the entrance at the end of the arrivals ramp to Richmond caused us to sit in the road to the airport after exiting the highway for an hour and a half. That was AFTER we were in the line to pickup my daughter and the BB. Just ridiculously horrible.

People see a cop and they go bonkers hitting their brakes and stopping. They drive so crazily here most of the time it is like they've been caught.

Had my GPS on and for 1.2 miles at the airport it took that hour and a half. (It was not passenger pickups.)

Anyway, rant over. I work today then the rest of the week is my families to do with me what they want.....

(As long as I am fed, I am good...) God Bless you all in the D-League! (Christmas Present and Past posters.)... ("Ain't" no Scrooging here...)

I don't know if you folks remember our oven problems just before Thanksgiving, we had only two operational burners, but the ovens worked so we were good to cook the meals. After that, we went out on that Saturday after Thanksgiving to Lowes to look for a new one. The one we saw online was not in the store so we went back home and the next day, we had picked out the one we wanted on Lowes online, paid for it with a delivery date of 15 Dec. The day before the 15th they texted us and said they were behind because of the holidays, and it would not be until 23 Dec. The third burner went out this week so, we were really needing it.............................................................................................................................I am building the suspense.................................................................................. Well, we got it just about an hour ago and my wife is firing the ovens up to get rid of the newness so we can start prepping for Christmas dinner tomorrow.

Glad they got it here early enough today, because wife and daughter want to go to Chickasha Oklahoma to the Christmas Blvd of Lights here shortly. We go every year before Christmas and were cutting it rather close this year and tomorrow would not do because of the Christmas dinner preparations needed. Wife was getting grumpy earlier today wondering if it would get here in time. All I can say is yay to me because now, I don't have to listen to all of the complaining if it did not get here in time.

@MdWIldcat55, @BBUK & @AustinTXCat Are all of you using leave for tomorrow? (assuming civil service) Because Biden did sign an executive order making 24 Dec. 2024 a federal holiday. Just curious.

You folks enjoy your night.

I like Mike...

Good morning and Merry Christmas Eve from ATX. Currently 66°F and cloudy. Increasing rain chances later this afternoon. Cold front coming in.

Plan on cooking quail in air-fryer. Wife will not touch it, so heading over to Rudy's later for take-out turkey and brisket around 11 am. Plan on grabbing couple half-pies, cherry and pumpkin, for dessert tonight.

Wishing y'all a very Merry Christmas.

Good morning folks. Happy Christmas Eve.

My house guests arrived yesterday and they are a lively bunch, especially my wife’s second cousin from Ireland. We’re having a lot of fun. Two of my three kids roll in today, so we’ll have a full house — seven adults filling my five bedroom house. Someone will crash on an inflatable bed we store away in the basement TV room.

Austin, that quail sounds good. My father and I used to quail hunt every weekend of the season in Bracken County where his family still had land. We had a succession of English Sitters, and dad had a nice collection of 12 gauges. I used to hunt with either an L.C. Smith double barrel or an Ithaca model 37 pump. Dad favored a Remington automatic. We’d get a mess of quail and my grandmother, who made incredible deep fried chicken, would work the same magic on the quail. Delicious.

Looking forward to today and tomorrow. Hope it’s Merry for all.
