D-League

I have no idea because the 1994 strike made me leave baseball.
Sosa has three of the Top Six HR seasons in the Major Leagues of all time -- and finished second in the National League all three years:

1998: Mark McGwire 70. Sammy Sosa 66
1999 Mark McGwire 65. Sammy Sosa 63
2001 Barry Bonds 73. Sammy Sosa 64

What a wreck steroids made of the hallowed baseball record book.

In 1994 I lived in Jacksonville, FL.

The Chicago Cubs catcher, whose father worked with me, was using my Country Club membership to play golf. At three million a year he did not need me but he may not have been accepted to the club. So he used me.

He supported the strike. He was only making about 3 million a year playing on my membership. He sure needed to use my membership as it was a whopping $500 a month.

I stopped him using my membership and I quit watching baseball.

What a bunch of spoiled assholes.

Of course all pro-sports folks are the same, but that was so close to me that I quit the sport.

Bert -- next thing you know you are going to be criticizing Jane Fonda, Whoopie Goldberg, Mark Ruffalo and the other Hollywood manual laborers who are out on strike, seeking humane treatment during their $15 million movie shoots.

As soon as I read those names, that was the first thing that came to mind.

Being a Cardinal fan, I was a big McGwire fan. I still like him as he is a really nice guy by all accounts, but it did take him down a bit in my estimation. I recall a story on Mark. An opponent was on the Cardinal pregame radio show following a game the previous day where a brawl broke out. I forget the guys name, but he was a large man and power hitter. He was on first base when the brawl started. He said he started to join the brawl when Mark grabbed him on both biceps from behind and said, "let's just stay here and watch." He said Mark wasn't trying to hurt him and was just trying to hold him tight enough to keep him in place. He said he had bruises on both biceps in the shape of Mark's fingers.

I am watching the Reds playing the SF Giants and the Giants were ahead 1-0 with Friedle on first and 2 outs with Fraley at bat. I am frustrated with the 5 game losing streak and said out loud: "Come on Fraley lose one!" as the pitch was being thrown. Crack! He hit a home run! I was so excited the dogs got a bit scared except the monster who just barked and growled at my exuberance.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 80°F and clear. Yoday's high expected again around 107°F. Sounding like a broken record. Nearly one month into summer.

Brutal day yesterday. Worked my tail off.

Happy Hump Day.

Morning Legionnaires!

76° this morning with a high of 103-105° expected. It is summer after all. We have had hotter days in past years.

Normal day for me today; walk monster, workout, clean house, and train student in that order.

Reds...ugghh. Nothing more need be said.

Scale that hump folks and slide down the other side.

God is watching so...be good or be good at it.

Good morning folks.

Gray and rainy in the east.

The VP where I work returned from four weeks off yesterday, and as has always happened through the years, tore apart all the work a dozen of us had done during that time. It has nothing to do with the work, and everything to do with the need to control and bully. Some people are just like that.

My son is visiting my wife’s first cousin in upstate NY who is a veterinarian with a large property. He sent us photos yesterday of this massive, couple acre field he cleared with a tractor. It was always damn near impossible to get this kid to cut the grass on our suburban lot, so this is impressive.

Hope you all have a good day.

I have been at war with Jane since she was on the anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi. Whoopie is a late hate!

The Cubs catcher was a nice young man, but he did not need to golf off my dime.

Bert -- This will amuse you. The place where I work made the dubious decision to put Jane Fonda on a magazine cover -- along with several other aging women who had starred in a movie with Tom Brady. I counseled against it, but we got in a corner and it ran on the theory that people liked Brady.

Well, we got a tidal wave of hate mail, all directed at Hanoi Jane. The loathing of her has not begun to fade for many. It was ugly, in the extreme. I was secretly glad to see it because it confirmed what I predicted would happen.

Yeah, I broke ranks today. I have a new supervisor that needs to get the accolades from my teams work so..... we must explain EVERYTHING, then explain why we did what we did and listen as he gives comments as to possible other solutions.............................after the fact as we are on to something else and have to stop that to give all these explanations.. I will stop... At 62 and around his age as well, all I can say is, he is not very smart and nearly stupid. Gone again... ;)

Good morning everyone

Not much going on today so trying to read quite a bit of my latest Pearl Harbor book, "At Dawn We Slept". While in the screened in patio reading the sow with 3 cubs wandered through the backyard. This time they just strolled on through without the usual knocking things over and pulling things down.

Wildlife Wednesday....from this past Saturday when they (especially mama) were feeling frisky. The hickory tree is about 10' from the door. 2 of the 3 cubs here.

Sherry and I watched the movie night before last. It was OKAY, not great, but two of the girls are nothing but Marxist. Jane should have been executed after her trip to Hanoi.

At my son's recent college graduation party -- remember this is the liberal Montgomery County suburbs of DC -- the magazine was laying around, so the topic of Jane Fonda came up. One of my wife's college days friends who used to be fairly high up in CNN and knew "Ted and Jane" made some comment about how 'unfortunate' it was that after all these years Jane couldn't go anywhere without someone spewing hatred at her.

My response: 'Those are probably people who lost someone in Vietnam, and remember her pointing deadly weapons at American pilots." Awkward pause followed. I was smiling inside.

I am not a Fonda fan and am not taking up for her, but it was a very confusing time. I try not to hold a grudge against people for decisions they made at that time. I certainly didn't know what was right or wrong. I didn't go for any patriotic reasons or a sense of us doing right or wrong. I went because of Country Joe and The Fish. They sang, you can be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box. I just knew no one would ever have a right to say, my boy came home in a box and you didn't do your share. It was that simple.

Thanks Storm,

Speaking for me, you can never post too many of your animal pics. Thanks a ton! Just amazing. I guess you have to keep a close eye on the little ones visiting as well.

I do not know you personally MdW but I sure would like to meet you. You are one of the good ones where there are not too many. (Not judging by default.) You can do decent things in some areas but the actions taken as a whole outweigh that. (Speaking of others I know of in your type industry. Heck in my type industry as well.)

I expect you are about the same person at work that you are at home and here. That is to be commended. Thanks

Thanks for that insight Bernie. As someone too young to have faced the decision, I don't really have the right to criticize anyone for what they did or didn't do. And through the years, I've had older friends who went to Vietnam, and older friends who didn't. I didn't judge them.

But I've always just had a knee-jerk negative reaction to Jane Fonda and some others who were aggressively anti-war.

Yep. I have a lot of respect for MdW.

When this picture was taken (Saturday) the neighbor's dogs had them stirred up. The cubs spent most of their time here that day up a huge poplar tree in front of the house. The sow came onto the porch trying to get the last little bit of bird feed from the feeder. She was too short. I got to watch her vertical jump off 2 feet. Not impressive....about 1". lol The earlier pic this week of her around the porch post was her attempting to climb it. We posted on FB the video of her "pole dancing". Anyway, she's not aggressive, but she sure isn't easily intimidated either.

I've got some catching up to do.

Been busy today so I need to catch up on this thread and the Political stuff (NOT HERE)...and I'll drop my opinion in on that thread.

It's SHARK WEEK/MONTH on various channels. BEWARE!

AND Keep an eye on the skies folks...YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE! 👽👽👽👽👽

You're in the wrong thread........😂 😁

Have a peaceful sleep all,

In 20 or so minutes I will try hitting the hay. Have to be at work in the morning early. I actually made some headway whether the points hit home or not, I made them at strategic moments several times. You'd think after a short while a person on the same team would take to heart that they have an asset (Working for them...) (The shame is I perceive that will never be what happens. I think there is a friend of a friends son that needs a job "again"...) (Seriously...)

I like to shake the hand of any veteran and thank them for their service, and I always try and do that for the Vietnam vets. They got dumped on and it wasn't fair to them.
