D-League

Hello all,

Just getting on my computer. At the early service this morning but have been in serious declutter mode. Still at it. We invited several families over this coming Tuesday for supper. It is in the have to do it now......

Have a great rest of your days...

My Darling and I plan to head to Huntsville for a visit Wednesday. It shows it is a ten hour drive. Actually looking forward to it. A serious get-away time for me and My Darling.

Gooooooood Morning Legionnaires!

68° this morning with clear skies and light winds. Would be the day to go fishing but...

Back to the norm this morning with a short walk for the monster, workout in the shop, and a little house cleaning for the morning. This afternoon will find me teaching my student the next level Kata and then on to my instructor's church tonight to help him with his class which has grown to over 20 students.

@AustinTXCat safe travels and continued prayers for your health.

And to all may God Bless you.

Good morning folks.

Cloudy and a little cooler in the east.

I slept in a little bit before starting work around 7am. To say I am not feeling like working today would be a huge understatement, but on days like that I just identify a few smaller tasks to complete and the day eventually gets rolling. That's what I'm up to now.

It'll be an interesting week for the young Cats in Canada. Not expecting much this early against some experienced teams playing professional players but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 80°F and clear. Today's high expected around 104°F. We hit 102°F yesterday as I boarded bus at the airport.

Doctor visit and immuno-therapy on schedule for this morning. Hopefully disease has not further progressed. Working admin stuff between now and 9:30 am.

Happy to count myself amongst the living. Wishing y'all' the best.

Good morning D-League.

Austin, I’ll be thinking of you this morning and hoping you get great news from the doctors.

For something to do, my wife and I have been rewatching the Sopranos for the first time in 20 years or so. That really was a well written and creative show. I’d forgotten a lot of the stuff that happened. You could never make it today. The casual gay bashing and the mistreatment of women without some of it clearly labeled as the behavior of a psycho would get it protested, and HBO would back off.

Heading to work. Hope it’s a great day for all.

Morning Legionnaires!

75° this morning with thunderstorms (again). We are getting more rain than normal for this time of year. Grass is usually brown by this time and cutting it usually happens every two weeks or so. Now, it is every week. Still supposed to hit triple digits as a high today and the next few days.

My instructor's Karate class at the church he attends has grown. Last night was 20 plus with more saying they will be joining shortly. About half of them not from the church, but many in this area know who he is and have left their schools and are joining his. He has three nights a week and I help him out Mondays and Fridays. This is his first "school" since he retired from teaching (Except helping me with my student when I could not be there) about 10 years or so.

Missed the Home Run Derby last night. It is the only thing I watch of the All Star time of the year.

Well, no walking the monster this morning, but working out in the shop still on tap for the morning.

Everyone stay safe out there and God Bless. (Prayers for Austin's checkup this morning)

A buddy of mine in central New York state just sent me a photo of water in his basement from the flooding in the northeast. Floods are always a miserable thing to deal with.

The worst I lived through was in 1964 in Northern Kentucky. We were still living in a trailer and my father was smart and lucky enough to haul us to high ground, but the town was inundated up to the first floor of most houses. I remember when school commenced we all had to stand in line on three straight Fridays and get shots to ward off Typhoid Fever and Cholera...

Of course, that was nothing compared to 1937...We eventually lived in one of the biggest houses in Silver Grove, Ky., on the high end of town. Even so, our entire house was submerged to the roof, according to the old couple who lived across the way and were there in those days...

Here's a contemporary account. Note the entry for January 25..

"Just sit right back and you will here a tale, a tale of a fateful trip" I'll take Mary Ann please.

While the shop has no more water in it, there is standing water all around.

A heads up:

On Sunday, the Kentucky men's basketball team took off for Toronto, where it will represent the United States against international competition at the FIBA GLOBL JAM.

The second annual round-robin event, which also features teams from Africa, Canada, and Germany, will take place July 12-16, with each team facing one another in pool play on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday before participating in the medal round games on Sunday.

Select UK games will be televised in the United States by the CBS Sports Network. Should the Wildcats advance to the gold medal game on July 16, CBS Sports Network will air that contest live as well.

July 12: Team USA vs. Team Germany, 1:30 PM ET live on CBS Sports Network

July 13: Team USA vs. Team Canada, 8:00 PM ET (tape delay July 14 at 12:00 AM ET on CBS Sports Network)

July 15: Team USA vs. Team Africa, 1:30 PM ET live on CBS Sports Network

I spent a little time looking at the rosters of the teams Kentucky will play. There are many professional players who are on teams in the top European Leagues that frequently supply players to the NBA. I'd say the closest comparison on the US basketball scene might be to a G-League team.

I won't be shocked if Kentucky goes winless in these games, assuming, which I do, that the other teams care and want to win. I do hope to glean some positive signs from Kentucky's play.

Just set up DVR. Thanks!

Good morning D-League.

Austin, I’m glad the lab results were positive news.

So, a win in the All Star game for the National League. I guess that means Cincy gets to host the opening game of the World Series! Just kidding. Probably. (Update: I’d missed the change to team with best record getting to be home team in Series. So, probably not the Reds.)

I used to love the All Star game. So many memories from the 1960s and early 1970s. Last night, I didn’t even watch to the end.

Cats play today. More aggravating news with Ugo hurt, so no Bradshaw, no Onyenso. I guess they’ll have to play small and fast. I’m going to be interested if Adou Thiero can be a physical plus, bring some energy and maybe get some rebounds.

Hope it’s a good day for all you, and the Cats.

Morning Legionnaires!

76° this morning with light winds. High today expected in the triple digits with sunny skies.

Normal day planned (walk monster, workout, clean house) before the USA (Kentucky) plays Germany. Go Cats!

Good news Austin, hopefully MRI continues the trend. Praying for you.

HUMP DAY! for you grinders. Hope most of you can get away or find a way to watch or listen to the game.

God Bless you all.

Looks like the Cats were too much for the 22-and-under Germany team today. Didn't get to watch - hope to after work - but it sounds like the negative nellies on Rafters are changing course and looking for an early seat on the bandwagon. Kentucky was up comfortably throughout. The Jungend Korps closed it to eight by hitting a flurry of threes when the game was essentially over.

I said this morning I was interested to see if Adou could be a physical factor, and he's drawing raves from those watching the game on just that area of play. Nice start to the 23-24 season.

Cats looked great. More physical. 3-ball shooting = much improved.

Mitchell was wonderful.
Sheppard was wonderful.
Reeves was wonderful.
Thiero was wonderful.
Edwards was wonderful.
Wagner was good not wonderful.

Now all I pray and hope for is that Kentucky gets a fair whistle like we did today in the NCAA, especially in the blanking SEC. I had problems with three calls today. In the SEC I question at a minimum of 20 "BAD" calls in each damned half.

Thanks Bert and Austin for the summaries. Looking forward to watching tonight.

I think everyone on the team improves when Ugo and Bradshaw are part of the mix, providing rim protection, rebounding and a major scoring threat inside.

The consensus on Rafters is that Edwards was off his game -- if projections as a Top 5 NBA draft pick are accurate. And Sheppard missed a lot of open looks. Those are two things I'm not concerned about -- Edwards is a major talent and Sheppard can shoot.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I sure was. This team due to its youth will demand patience IMO but they'll get there. I'm excited.

After the last few years, I will stay cautiously optimistic on this team. I think we should be better, but we need to see what Bradshaw brings to the team. We already know what Ugo brings, I thought at times last year he showed he could eventually be pretty good.

3 more games to go for those playing now so...
