Thanks AWF, I consider my self a piddler in stained glass. I really enjoyed making these for our grandchildren, I hope one day they can look back and tell their children, your greatStepaw made this for me!!!! I also enjoy just making things for Our POLICE OFFICERS, FIREFIGHTERS and our VETERANS!!!! Just hoping I can make some more!!!! I always say, a picture of stained glass does no justice to seeing it in person!!!!

Good morning D-League. Nothing much doing so far this morning. With the Big Thaw my early AM hikes are getting a bit less treacherous, though there are still spots where it thaws, freezes over night, and creates an ass-busting booby trap.

Thanks for sharing that Ted Turner story Colonel. I consider him one of the most impressive examples of sainthood in modern times. Why?

I always knew I couldn't be in the same room with Jane Fonda for ten minutes without committing a felonious assault. And here's a man who slept with her thousands of nights and never committed murder. My hat's off to someone with that level of self-control.

I want to go!
AWF, if you like Trout fishing, you would love this place! We fish right on the confluence of the whiter and Norfork Rivers, depending on what the guides, it's either the White or the Norfork and most trips it's both. I think it's Bull Shoals is where the Norfork River starts. I often watch videos from there just to look at the places where I have fished. Just wanted to add this, my largest Brown was a 20" and the largest Rainbow was a 19", I caught both of them on an ultra-light, with 4 lb. test line, talking about a fight in swift water!!!!!

A little baseball story...of another good deed...by someone I consider a jerk.

Had a former MLB player work for me for a couple of years. Played for about 4 or 5 years. Nothing close to a star but had some moments (and a great guy). Was with the Braves (and others) and was either sent down to the minors or was going to be cut....which would have ended his career. Ted Turner (owner of the Braves) found out about it. It was fairly late in the season. He ordered the GM to put him back on the team...didn't have to play him...just let him be on the roster. My friend was just a few games or days (whichever way they counted it for the MLB pension) away from qualifying for his pension, which Ted knew. Without Ted stepping in for him he would not have qualified for it. Hence he did.
Retired at the end of that season.

I say jerk....because I met Ted a few times....and....aw, aw, aw....he was a jerk
But he did good for my friend.
@wildcatdonf and I dined at Ted's restaurant (Montana Grill) back about 5 years ago. Pretty good food.

One more thing about one of my trips there. It was 3 years age I got a guide that I hadn't fished with before, his name was Carl and you could just tell he was an old river man!!!! I really enjoyed the two days with him and he knew the river!!!! We anchored on day and were catching lots of Rainbows, then they just quit biting! Carl told us the Browns had moved in and the Rainbow's had left, sure enough we started catching some huge Browns, my best friend caught a 24' Brown and I got a 19" one. Later on we found out that Carl was the guide for the record Brown Trout, I think it's 32lbs!! It's on youboob if you want to watch it.

Thank God I am a Southern Boy. Nothing beats a good peanut boil. It is and has been a staple at my house since I was born. It may be the easiest thing in the world to cook, next to boiling an egg.

PER POUND, but we do a lot more than a pound.
  • 1 pound of raw "green" peanuts (not the color green, but fresh raw peanuts which are called green peanuts)
  • 2-3 Tbsp table salt
  • 4 cups water
Let them cook for 2 or 3 hours

If you want to spice it up you can add hot peppers and other seasonings that suit your taste. I like mine boiling hot but I have heard some people prefer them cold. Let's do it.

That is one food I always pass on. Both of my kids like them but I don't.

Yeah, there's a Ted's Montana Grill just a few miles from me in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In happier, non-Covid times, my wife and I would go there a few times a year, mostly in the summer. I agree, the food is pretty good.

I just picked up they key to my buddies place in Burkesville.....on the bank of the Cumberland river.......I plan on knowing that section of the river very well by spring......when I lived in NC the state would come and put a net of rainbow trout in the streams coming down out of the mountian.......they would stop where ever there was a drive or culvert and dump them in........the idea I think......was that some would end up in Cane Rive which ran along 19/25....in Yancey county.........fun times.......

It is a sunny 38.7°F on our way to 52°. Yesterday the really missed the high. It was nearly 70° by mid afternoon.

I still have three piles of sleet and snow around the house. It is really hanging on in some really warm air.

You all have a great Friday eve.
My foster grandpa used to tell me that when you saw snow lying on a bank like that, it is waiting for another snow.....BUT.......I spotted several flocks of Sandhill Cranes flying north.....a couple hundred birds in each flock......they don't lie......

I saw a bunch of those too, standing in snow in fields as I was driving up to Pennsylvania... ;)

Have fun and good luck with the fishing, you’ll be in my neck of the woods. Used to spend a lot of time on the river. Not a trout fisherman myself, but have caught a few fishing for white bass, mostly downstream from there though. But I think from the dam to Burkesville is the best for trout from what I understand.

A sign of the times?

I just got back from the farm and feed store with a load of cow manure. This time last year it was $0.95 a bag and now it is $1.87 for the same bag. Pretty much double. Gas prices have jumped over a dollar and a half. Can I blame this on Biden?
They sell cow manure in bags? I seriously didn’t know that. I could have been rich by now.

No Sir, blame it on President Trump... It is his fault. Might as well sue him for it too... Everyone else does...

Gas here at the Costco I get gas at regularly was $1.87 up until the transition in January. $2.30+ now.... Tell me how that happens.... then you can understand Communism. (Hint: No, it is not the free market economy, it is because "they" want to... No other reason.)

Received my proposed tax bill yesterday for my home; 2019 assessment; $485,920.00, 2020 assessment; $495,390.00, 2021 assessment; $507,160.00 2019 % change: 5.74, 2020 % change; 1.95, 2021 % change; 2.38.... Yeah the Demosocialcommunist Liberals have GOOD hold here in my county..(Note: Mine is a meagerly priced home here in this area.). Charge what "they" want, we can pay it.... the Republicans are all RINO's....

AWF, my best friend, his family is from Franklin NC I think, He tells me all the time about when they lived there how they would go up in the mountains and camp for two weeks Trout fishing all those small streams.

When I lived in Atlanta we'd go up to the Smokies (G'burg, W. Carolina) 2,3,4 times a year. I saw them stocking the streams many times. Camped one time in a campground outside Cherokee that had a private pond in it that was fed by a mountain stream that ran past the campground. It was full of trout.

Not sure about this week, but last week around here it was $2.79.
Grocery prices have obviously jumped....and that's not the 'hidden inflation' of charging the same price as last week/month, but the packaging being 10%-20% smaller. And with another couple trillion being printed here soon....I don't see how we as a country won't incur significant inflation here soon.

Agreed. Building material prices are 100%-300% higher than this time last year. 10-year T-Note currently yielding 1.5% and has been on a tear this month.

Inflation coming.

HA,
We have two refrigerators and one upright freezer (Small sized). (Just me and the wife now and the daughters and grand kids come over regularly. Think my darling doesn't cook. It is cool for me now as I FINALLY got my portions cut down to where I am not eating stupid but my darling can cook. I eat so well... Two nights ago my wife made the larger

Kind of Yaki Mandu like these (I took this picture off the internet) BUT much nicer, larger, and more evenly cooked using the larger Goya pastrie skins.. (My wife froze some of them and I forgot to take a picture but I may ask her to make those again for supper today and I will take a picture and post them. (Even put some grated sharp cheddar cheese in them as an experiment. Tasted good but I liked the original recipe.

Also made some steamed sort of like these but much nicer and the taste, oh the taste...

I'd rather eat steamed any day but the fried are good too..

Oh, I pray your day is filled with joy and gladness too. Happiness is fleeting but true Joy springs eternal. God Bless you and may your joy be that eternal kind of joy. If any has any update on Sir brother Ben please post, I think he stated he'd post again today if able. I DO hope he is able...

sorry

I had never eaten the steamed ones.....I met a guy wanting to get into pigeons......turns out he has a Chinese buffet......the last time I took him a few pair of birds he sent me home with a container full of those dumplings.....with some dipping sauce.......WOW........my new favorite.........we went down to his place for lunch Tuesday and he gave me some more to bring home......just got done eating them for lunch.....

There was a trout farm in Honeycutt which wasn't far from where we lived.....you could fish his ponds for $1 a lb for what you caught.......I had to learn how to "not catch" small ones...........take them straight to the house and fry them up........they would be in the pan in less than an hour.........best fish in the world........

On our trips, if there is a new person that is on it, then we have a shore lunch, the guides pick out the ones they want to fry up. When we get to where everything is set up, they have these 10-12" skillets ready. Guides are in the boats, cleaning fish, then straight to the skillets. We have Trout, fried taters, baked beans, fried pork tenderloin, desserts and drinks!!!!!

I'd go out and gather bags of leaves first here in tree plentiful VA. At 18 bucks a six pack I'd like the leaves.
