D-League

Morning Legionnaires!

40° this morning with a high of 49° and sunny projected. Half of our snow melted yesterday with the rest sure to go today with sunny skies and light winds expected. Went out to eat lunch for the first time in a month or so yesterday. Wife and daughter wanted Mexican so we ate at a local eatery. Then shopping at Walmart (hate that place) and bought myself two small cherry pies (Thank Austin for putting that in my head) and that is what dinner was. Missed the game but, have not seen one since the kneeling at Florida so...

Have not trained my student for 2 weeks and she texted me yesterday wanting to get back to training because she misses it. Well, looks like I am going back to playing Mr. Miyagi again Tuesday. Quit at the school I was helping out because a new black belt joined from Japan and she has brought her organization into my friends dojo with different ways of doing business. My friend likes her style and they want us to join their organization. Our names would be in their legends in Japan and my friend really wants his legacy to be there. To do that we must pay a yearly organization fee along with knocking me and him back down from a 6th degree black belt to a first degree and we must test again for each level (degree) in their organization. About $200.00-$400.00 dollars a test. NO. This is not the first time my friend has changed affiliations. He has done it about 4 times in as many years. Our old instructor has his own organization so, I will stay with that one. Plus, the new one does not allow any weapons training or incorporating grappling, take downs, or throws. Every thing is traditional upright fighting. Not fluid enough for todays real world defense. It is strictly an art form and not practical.

Good morning D=League. Hope the day is off to a good start for everyone.

I'm still psyched about the Cats' game. I honestly believe with normal summer work-outs to bond, a typical roster of exhibition games and early season cupcake games to get young players comfortable, this would be a Top 15 team now.

And if Keion had not gotten hurt and had been there as the early season leader, we might be talking a Top Ten team. And that's without factoring in the loss of Terrence Clarke. Just a uniquely screwed up year for the Cats.

As for me, the inevitable happened this morning - a full blown, ass-busting, legs straight up in the air fall on the ice. All parts intact. A sore shoulder and bruised hip, and a desperate hope no one in the neighborhood witnessed it.

But I don't want the D-Leaguers to miss out on a laugh. So, imagine it something like this. I definitely ended up in the same position.

I have been saying this for awhile, and I still believe it. This team was a product of Covid. Cal always has young teams, but they get to campus directly after graduation, June 1. They learn from coaches, play with past players, and bond with new team mates. This year, they didn't get on campus until Aug 1, and this, along with no scrimmages, put this team two months behind their normal schedule, and Cal's teams don't usually start playing well until Christmas. So, there you go. Checked out the church parking lot, and even though our roads are good, the lot is like a skating rink, so we have one more week of on-line service. Everyone have a blessed day, and get ready to enjoy warmer temperatures this coming week.

Ben - It was the Perfect Storm: 1. Guys like Hagans and EJ left who had no business leaving, so that Cats only had one returnee with any experience. 2. That returnee, Keion gets hurt and has no influence early in the season 3. The young guys who needed to learn Kentucky's system did not get anything like the summer work that is typical. 4. The early exhibitions and cupcake games that allow young players to transition from high school to college mostly got canceled. 5. Terrence Clarke gets hurt, the guy who'd probably be the Cats' best player today if healthy.

I know that sounds like a long list of excuses to some. I suppose it is. But it all happened, and it added up to a cascade of bad -- mostly very close -- losses.

Let me add a number 6. Boston is not lived up to his billing.

I'd certainly agree with that Bert, though he's played better lately.

I'd loved to have seen him in a typical year; a summer to acclimate to Kentucky's system, full-fledged October practices, exhibitions and cupcake games beginning the first week of November. We'll never know, but I think he'd have come closer to his billing, for sure.

It is already up to 30.9°F. When I got up it was 24°. We are supposed to get to a whopping 52° this afternoon. I hope that gets rid of a bunch of the snow and ice.

This is why teams may take a pass on conference tournaments if they're guaranteed an NCAA bid, i.e. Alabama. Why take the chance with Covid?

Every darned SEC had better be in the tourney Covid or not. Many years the SEC Tourney only hurt Kentucky, so no team should ever get a pass.

Don't forget about the Cam'ron Fletcher debacle. Plus Saar in my eyes hasn't lived up to expectations.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 52°F and cloudy. Our high today should reach 72°F. Water back on. Hot water heater held up great. Pilot light remained lit though entire arctic blast. We still experience uneven heat, as kitchen sink runs hotter than bathrooms. Nevertheless, a warm shower felt amazing yesterday.

I'll try grocery shopping again today. Tried last Friday and line out the store numbered in the hundreds.

Aggie game cancelled over COVID? Yikes! I read Cal might schedule 3 more games between now and SEC Tournament.

Wishing happiness and health to all our fellow D-League members.

Off to Etown in a bit. Going to start my maters, peppers, cucumbers, etc. from seed this year. always bought plants so I thought I would give this a try. I'm going to find something to start seedlings and a French fry cutter.

Not much else shakin....carry on

Morning D, Going to head to church at 11, one of our members cleared the parking lot yesterday, started out at 19 now it's all the way up to 40, so some of what's left might clear off by church time.

Great game by the Cats beating those volentears!!!!

Brought home one of the prettiest pieces of glass yesterday, it's called Strawberries and Cream, but it should be beautiful $160 for one piece of glass! Now I can finish up on my grandson's panel. When I get done I'll ask Mr. Bert to post a pic for me!!!

We got our shots scheduled this morning, April 15 in Owensboro.

I hope the D, has a great LORDS' DAY! Prayers for the D!!!!

Tell me something about Yuengling beer. Is it stronger tasting, alcohol content higher than our watered down regular beer?

to me its a little stronger tasting than a light beer, content the same as far as I know, however it taste much much better draft than the can or bottle. I drink it if its draft or bottle but pass on the can. Another I have come to like is landshark. I always like draft better than bottle or can. Landshark is good with a lime slice

This may wear out my welcome at the D League, but with the brownie post and later posts about beer, I have to tell this story. I had a buddy that won a bar bet for 3 cases of beer. To win, he ate a dog turd. He picked out a dry one, took it to the bar (along with his tooth brush), did the deed, brushed his teeth and left with his beer.

Anyone who would eat that, rather than just pay $30-$35 for a product, is sick.

I'll bet the next bitch he came in contact with wouldn't have anything to do with him. 😬

I had a buddy who would win bar bets by eating a water glass. Yep, he would bet someone that he could eat a glass, from the bar. He would break off a piece at a time, with his teeth, and then grind it down to almost sand, before swallowing it. He would win large amounts of money doing this. I couldn't believe it, until I saw it in person.

Naw Sir,

Yuengling is about the "mellowist" tasting lager that I've drank. It is a stout beer. Feels like more alcohol content than Budweiser but is not, (4.4 for Yuengling to 5 for Budweiser) more mellow/ smoother. Yuengling is said to be the oldest brewery in the US.

Take this from someone who's huge day drinking now is three or four beers. I used to put away the suds (Not by volume) but I'd drink beer and hard liquor together. (In my early to mid twenties) I quit drinking totally while my kids were growing up and were living at home over more than twenty years. Never drank a drop. (The only alcohol I ever drank was nyquil.) My usual now is three to four beers in a seven day week. I drank two last night for the first time in at least ten days or so...

I did like drinking Spiced Rum and coke but the last time I had that was well over a couple years ago. No reason, I just haven't drank any and don't have any. (Well, the wife doesn't want me to drink hard liquor. She says it isn't good for me... so I don't...(That is the real reason.))

I talk about drinking now some but it isn't a priority. Another beer I liked a lot here and in Korea was Hite beer.

At the Walmart here I can buy a 12 pack of Bottled (I like bottled beer a lot more than canned beer. Totally different taste to me.) Yuengling for about $11.00 while you can buy a 24 pack right next to the 12 pack for $16.50 or so. I always buy the 24 pack as I am a frugal mug.

A 24 pack will last me at least a month and normally a month and a half or longer.

Just my take but that is why...

Oh, I do apologize about talking about drinking so much, especially on this day but I did. I am not ashamed of drinking but neither do I tout my drinking. I won't lie either way, what I DO watch out for is causing someone else to pick up the habit that may not be able to handle it and ruin their life(s). I think at that point it would be a sin. (Just my thinking)

In any event God Bless you all and I DO hope your day has good meaning for you and others in Christ.

You is a real beer drinker....(I DO agree with you on the ones that taste better. I don't do the bar thing so the bottle is as close as I'd get anyway. I'd normally pass up canned beer unless drinking with a friend to be sociable..(Been since I was in Korea to be sociable though.)
